Worst game of 2022

The year is almost over, as well as there is a Best Game of 2022 thread.

Let's start with the worst game of 2022.

start saying that

hero

Livestream: Escape from Hotel Izanami

It is not only the worst 2022 game I have tried, it is the worst "Visual Novel", Worst "Survival Horror", worst "Adventure Game", worst "Puzzle Game" I have ever tried.

With a very generic Slasher genre and with a story that is not only terrible, but not at all scary.

Score 3/10

That I've personally played this year, No More Heroes 3.

After beating and loving killer is dead earlier in the year, I was really looking forward to this, but I really didn't like it at all.

First game I've sold in years, I finished it, but it's not one I want to ever return to or even want in my collection.

The worst (and most disappointing at the same time) game I've personally played this year is Gotham Knights and even that was ok once I got past the numerous technical issues. I'm sure there is some 0/10 dross out there like Captain Toad says.

Thread should be titled most disappointing because the worst game isn’t gonna be popular enough to be listed in this thread. Too easy to release broken, irrelevant or cash grab trophy games these days.

Something like Crossfire X or Babylons fall should be popular answers, especially because of the reputation of the devs attached to them

I'd have to say Babylon's Fall based on what happened.

Off the top of my head, I haven't played any bad games this year. If I did then I've forgotten about it for obvious reasons.

^^ Yeah, it would have to be the same for me. I love the Arkham games and was looking forward to this. The controls just feel off and loose.

Worst game I played to the end this year was Somerville.
Normally I like these types of games, Inside, Limbo, and their ilk, BUT.
Somerville was Jank, buggy, and unnecessary 3rd dimension.
Confusing ending game mechanics where I thought the game was broken but I simply wasn't doing enough of the same thing to advance.

I'm going to preface by saying these are the games I've played this year:

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition
Horizon Forbidden West
Elden Ring
Control
Berserk and the Band of the Hawk
Hitman
Hitman 2
Hitman 3
Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed II
Final Fantasy XV
The Last of Us Part II
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
Resident Evil 2 Remake
CyberPunk 2077

There are a lot of great games in that list. But by far, the most disappointing, underwhelming, and worst game of the year for me is Horizon Forbidden West. I WANTED to love this game, even like the game, but I hated it. The story was hilariously contrived and compounded by so many powerpoint presentations and sleepy conversations, that I stopped caring. The characters were bland, generic, and cliche. And the savior complex Aloy has is a bit insufferable by the end. "But surely the gameplay can save it, its Horizon!" Nope. Coming off of AC Valhalla and Breath of the Wild, I was used to being able to actually traverse open worlds. Horizon flat out doesn't let you go places you feel like you should. You have to follow the yellow hand holds everywhere you go. Its simply terrible game design in 2022. And while the bow and arrow gameplay was the best part, even that got repetitive to me by the end. I went from being hyped leading up to its release, to swearing off the franchise 5 hours in. I finished it in 32 hours and promptly sold back. To me, the game is garbage and was correctly outshined by Elden Ring. In addition, the response by Guerilla devs when they put down Elden Ring made me hate the game more. Even after investing two games into this series, I don't care what happens and I won't be getting the dlc or the third game.

Horizon Forbidden West is my GOTY. (Didn't play Elden Ring or Ragnarok. 80% of my game time this year was in HFW or the original)

I understand why people didn't like it (wrote a long post about my thoughts*), but I liked it anyhow, despite all those flaws. 8 out of 10 game, though, not some masterpiece by any stretch. I should probably try Elden Ring, but I'm a bit burnt out on big, open-world games right now.

I bought a version on GOG last year. I've been thinking of buying it again. Is it a technical mess?
Yes. Wait for another major patch to see if it fixes at least the big remaining gameplay issues which include bugged shooting, and the game become unresponsive for several minutes. The developers have been on radio silence since the first patch in early July, and I am assuming the bulk of Nightdive is working on other projects, hopefully finalizing the System Shock remake.

Also, the "enhanced" cutscenes look very blurry and feel choppy. The promotional videos implied that they were putting more work into them, but the actual result disappoints.

If "worst" means "how the FUCK did you mess this up this badly" there can be only one answer:

Gotham Knights.

Man with a few exceptions 2022 was pretty bad for big titles, huh.

Worst game: Probably some shovelware assetflip somewhere on Steam
Worst game in relation to the budget/franchise notoriety: Probably Gotham Knights or those new Pokemon games
Worst game I played: Stray, boring gameplay, boring plot, fell asleep twice while playing. The visuals were nice though.

Yo how has nobody said "HURR DURR ELDEN RING" yet?

The game that disappointed me most: Horizon 2, but then again I didn't touch Saints Row or Gotham Knights because those never even looked good in the first place

The game I don't understand why everyone is crazy over: Stray, we all get it, you like cats, if it was a robot badger or something nobody would care

The game I wish I liked more: Vampire Survivors, it's cool but didn't get its hooks into me like it did so many others

Have you seen a doctor about that?

Bro....

The Cringe effect is huge in this game, but it is far away from beeing the worst game of the year

Bro...
I´m comparing it to others bigger games I played this year and it was a dissapoint to me!

I was playing Hot Persuit Remastered early this year... that´s a real NFS for me!!!

My worst game of 2022 didn't come out this year, but: Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two on the Nintendo Wii U. Loving Warren Specter's previous games, like System Shock and Deus Ex, this missed the mark for me in terms of performance, level design, boss design, and sound design. I only give it a 5/10, because it had Mickey and Oswald in it. Without them, it would be a 3/10.

Worst game: some shitty asset flip game

Worst game worth talking about: Horizon Forbidden West - Beautiful game but man what a fucking let down.
HFW...didn't play it, but there was tons of hype leading up to the release. A week after release nobody was saying a word about it. Just fell off a cliff.

I wasn't a big fan of the first one - so HFW prob not on my radar much TBH.
