The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is $70

Yeah, even if I paid $70 for games, I sure as hell wouldn't for sub-HD resolutions on terrible hardware. I'll play it down the road on my PC like the first one. Playing this game on the Switch will be like playing BotW on the Wii U.

Horizon 2 is possibly the best looking game ever made.
But it fucking sucks cock.

Why is it I can play SNES games on a CRT and have a good time?

It's because games are more than resolution or hardware.
And my enjoyment of them is tied to neither.

If Super Mario Bros 3 came out for the first time today I'd gladly pay $70 for it.

I don't get it. If US$ 70 is now the price for AAA releases on PS5/XSX, why not Zelda? In terms of production, it's an AAAA game.

That being said, it will hurt especially for people outside the US, considering the value of the dollar and all the distortions in exchange rate these days.
BOTW looks and runs like a PS2 game though. The frame rate will be like watching a slideshow. the Switch is too old and slow. This is just basically DLC passed off as a new game for a 6 year old console! /s

Amazon pre-orders were open briefly for $60. What’s interesting is that Amazon not only delisted Zelda pre-orders but also Metroid Prime 4 (which has been on there for years at this point). There’s definitely something going on with Switch pricing.

I would pay $100 for this game. It's literally Nintendo's only good franchise at this point.

How will you play it on PC "down the road"? I take it you have an unpatched 2017 Switch console vulnerable to the RCM exploit? Or are you just saying you're gonna steal the game?

I don't care what people do. I just think it's shit that people feel so entitled that they would steal games. Oh I'm not paying $70! Fuck Nintendo! I'll just steal it.
Oh god, 70 less dollars. It's not like this game will go on to sell millions of copies anyway, and it's not like that the people who pirate games are in a vast minority to people who buy them, and it's not like the Nintendo Switch just became the third best selling console ever.

Trust me, they'll be fine.

Besides, piracy isn't theft.

Worth it or not, the nerve of Nintendo to do that is pretty gross. The hardware is aging, a new adventure is overdue.

What a lame move. Watching people defend it will be fun though. Popcorn out.

Nothing is final til it airs in the Direct and final publications go live post-show.

But, does this really surprise anyone? It’s got to be the biggest and most expensive game Nintendo’s ever made, and Sony and Xbox and third-parties already charge $70 for big games, why wouldn’t Nintendo eventually follow suit?

This might actually be like the first game to actually be worth that amount of money.

Also worth pointing out that most first-party N64 games were $59.99, and 25 years later, $10 more is “way too much”? Good Lord, give me a break.

It dosen't have the budget of a AAA Sony or MS game. Do you think Nintendo spend high budget on those games? No... is the cost production the same as Ragnarok for example? No. Budget dosen't mean a game is bad. Nintendo games just dosen't have the high budget of MS or Sony AAA games sorry. Like i said That dosen't mean they are bad games. Would you be alright paying for example 70 for AA game or indie game? Even is the game is good would you pay 70?

Yeah, but to legally emulate it you need a specific Switch model running on a certain firmware. If you have a 2019, Lite, or OLED you can't dump games for emulation.
On an enthusiast board like this, most of us know our way around modding a console. It's not unheard of.

Unfortunately, I own a Switch, and yes, it's unpatched, but even if I didn't what I do with the games after I buy them isn't Nintendos business. I bought the first and between the shitty controllers and terrible IQ I emulated it on my PC and I'll do it again...it's perfectly legal.

At some point things become so toxic you just have to laugh and move on. It's not worth even pondering just how shitty, greedy and unethical it is. You just chalk it up to good old capitalism and move on. At the end of the day it's $10 bucks and a video game.

Zelda’s team is roughly the same size as GoW’s. 300 people. But Zelda’s development cycle was longer, so the budget is probably much larger than anything Sony has ever done. Not to mention the disparity in terms of creativity and talent between the two teams. But that’s a matter of taste.

As for MS standards, it’s hard to compare when you consider how incompetent their teams are. Look at what 343 Industries did with 450+ team and half a billion dollars budget.

Btw, PS5 is my only console.

Well since they had to put zero effort into any next gen graphics, and the game will probably be 30 FPS 720p with dips garbo, let’s hope the dungeons and story are actually worth a damn this time around.

No offence NONE these mean shit, maybe I'm alone on this but to me game's worth is all about my enjoyment, I couldn't give rat ass how much budget they spend or high tech the graphics are. To me game like Horizon worth less $10 because I simply didnt enjoy the game at all, meanwhile game Nier and 13 Sentinels has less high tech graphics I was more than happy pay full price because thats how much enjoyed those games.

You guys put waaaaay too much value in graphics.

Americans complaining about $69.99 is kind of hilarious.

I paid $100 for fucking Calisto Protocol. Thats the price.

eXhAnGe rAtE - Dont care. I paid $100.

WITH THAT SAID:

LMAO at nintendo charging 70 for some 2002 ass graphics, no voice acting and abysmal combat.

maybe they had to up the storage. There were n64 carts that were $100.

BoTW was the game that made me buy a $300 console. I literally could just spend $450 and just play 2 Zelda games and I’d be pretty happy with it.

I will say this decision went from insta-buy to wait for reviews.

If they address my complaints about dungeons/bosses and provide a massive elden ring or botw like experience then I'll begrudgingly pay $70 even though it looks like a 360 era title.

Nintendo knows the game will sell 30 million copies regardless. So people can bitch and moan all they want, but Nintendo is laughing all the way to the bank.

This makes me wonder about the game’s pricing on the Switch 2 or whatever the next generation hardware will be called. $80 games incoming?
