I refunded it on steam and I will play it on PS5. I tested both and it looks identical, just like a ps4 port. So I will play on ps5 because of the dualsense, which is great in this game.

why are the reset era people so angry at this game considering that its one of the most woke games out there

shouldnt they be happy about it ?

They also think JK Rowling is a radical feminist. Fuck em and fuck what they think.

I am knee deep in a quest right now in which I am basically hopping through dimensions, deciding whether or not I want to embrace a dark path or continue my noble Hufflepuff nature. Reminded that deep, nuanced story telling can actually happen in games even if they're largely made for children. Meanwhile those jerks are looking for new targets to bully online.

Edit: also, no wonder the students at Hogwart's hold their professors in such reverence. Imagine if this was high school. These dark, terrible, awful battles and circumstances. Just to graduate. Anyone who came out OK on the other end, and then decided to go back for more and be a professor, deserves all the accolades

Yeah. The PS5 version kind of wins out because all the neat stuff they did with the controller. Hopefully, they will patch that into the PC version.

I've probably missed it somewhere but what's the best option for this out of Series X and PS5. Ill be playing on the raytracing fidelity mode whatever it is, don't care about 60fps.

Consoles are hooked up to a 1440p freesync monitor that PS5 doesn't support anyway so I'm guessing Series X? Or does PS5 do anything special?

From what I've gathered it sounds like you probably want to go Series X, but wait for some actual multi-console players to chime in. But it sounds like you want Series X.

I actually did a neat thing to do that quest where you have to dodge attacks 10 times. I just took a spider and dodged his spitting.

Yeaaa guess who invited me for a personal lesson

Speaking of builds, a little PSA: You can NOT respec in this game. They imply this when the talent tree is unlocked, but it isn't stated explicitly. Thankfully you can see exactly what and when the other talents unlock so you can decide which direction to go in, though a lot of them are kind of no brainers.

Yeah. JK Rowling kind of does a twist on the slavery. It reminds me of the mechanoids in Red Dwarf.

Yeah. . .that "twist" just sounds like a bunch well, the phrase is not a good phrase to use, and the word "House" is already in their name. The "slave that enjoys being a slave" trope isn't new and it is still pretty lazy. For me it is the fact that they are also clearly poorly dressed (or at least given the scraps of what others don't want) and are kind of all meek - so far - that reads as cringe. To each their own though.

It's interesting how in this world,
a hundred years or so prior to the books, the Weasley's were successful and respected
. It's going to be bittersweet watching what they willingly sacrificed.

Also Peeves can go F himself. Seriously why is he such a drag?

There is lots of good old fashioned muggle and squib racism in the game. The really lean into it since it is the 1800s.

Im playing on series x, balanced mode. It looks amazing and most places its 50fps+. The raytracing inside hogwarts on the marble floors etc is great. One of the best looking games ive ever played. Bare in mind you need a TV with VRR for balanced mode though.

I like Peeves in the book but so far he's a cunt in the game lol but I suppose his whole existence is to be annoying so makes sense.

I can almost understand now why they cut him out the movies but I think Rik Mayall would've done a great job.

The dueling club is kicking my ass! There are multiple people on my team but the opponents always seem to be targeting me. I don't have enough health potions. Please tell me that my health points increase? The health bar depletes real fucking fast.
A lot of comments on this but If your talking about the 3rd round they are level 16/17/18 and your essentially get that really early on at level 3/4ish, just wait until you are at least their level and it’s not that challenging.

He was such a jerk in the books too. I guess it's his nature being a poltergeist and all, just annoying

The scope for this game going forward is mindblowing.

Imagine if they did an expansion that's another school year, taking place on the same map but with new stories and areas added.

Ministry of Magic would be a good one for example, they could add new shit to Hogwarts as well that was implemented while the students went back home.

The potential is huge with this.

Have YOU read the article yourself?

And since we can perceive motion at a higher rate than we can a 60 Hz flickering light source, the level should be higher than that, but he won’t stand by a number. “Whether that plateaus at 120 Hz or whether you get an additional boost up to 180 Hz, I just don’t know.”

“I think typically, once you get up above 200 fps it just looks like regular, real-life motion,” DeLong says. But in more regular terms he feels that the drop-off in people being able to detect changes in smoothness in a screen lies at around 90Hz
Well given that valve established a 90hz refresh rate at 90fps was the threshold for "presence" in VR prior to the original Vive being launched this should be a moot subject. Re-projection and timewarp techniques have been used in vr basically since then by oculus/meta/Sony and even valve in steam vr as developers struggled to hit the 90fps in vr titles.
The various methods kind of work in doubling up and smoothing frame rates and tricking the eyes, but are still clearly distinguishable from the pure "presence" feeling when running things at 90fps/90hz
I would assume that 120fps on 120hz panels with a low response time and low input latency would be where it's borderline unnoticeable to human perception, but having never experienced above 120hz screens myself I can only speculate about the diminishing returns above that.
Hogwarts is one of the few titles on next gen (series x here) where the 30fps fidelity can be set that it's tolerable, forbidden west for example I couldn't deal with the slideshow of the graphics mode there, even after all the patches
Will have to write down what settings I chose for series x to get it feeling responsive and smooth, I know I turned camera sensitivity all the way up, acceleration off, film grain off, chromatic crap off, but might have been a few more

Can't wait to upgrade the broomstick as the lack of speed feeling during flight is a little disappointing to start, but if it had been faster I would never have been able to do the courses, can anyone late game comment on whether the upgrades you get actually feel faster later on? Cheers

PC mods to the recue in no time I hope. Storage is limited to 20 articles of clothing. It's a pain for sure.

I get what people mean by lack of gear slots. This shit sucks. I only encountered my first Merlin trial. Hopefully I find more quick so I can get more space.
Just keep the best ones and sell the rest, you can change the appearance of each gear with ones you obtained before, hover them in the gear menu and press the corresponding button to transmog (X or square on controllers).

Holy shit, alright i didn't notice they were so high levelled. i'm only lvl 10 lol. I got the idea that i was too weak and decided to leave it for a while.

I'm hving so much fun with it. I really hope WB don't abandon HP completely. The success of the game surely has to make them rethink it.

My impression was that they were planning to release the game alongside a Fantastic Beasts movie but now they've scrapped them they are putting this out just because too much money went into it. I was thinking they'll put it out and we'll never get any DLC or sequels but now having played the game they really need to come up with DLC and/or a sequel. It's too damn good.

After a hectic series of battles, this beast class was what I needed. Just chilling with a new friend, forgot her name but she's cool, and caring for cats.

This game is something else. It feels like the first of its kind. Everything is deep and polished. "Raising the bar" is an overused phrase but it really is apt here.

Someone who is caring for cats? I hope she isn't house locked. What house are you in? I'm in hufflepuff.

This game is giving me strong Witcher/Skyrim vibes. I could also see the formula applied to MMORPGs. I'm not far in but so far I'm very impressed and I agree it feels like something very special that hopefully future games will take note of. Off the top of my head Witcher 3 and BOTW were games that raised the bar for me.

I think if they werent planning DLC they will have a rethink now that its selling so well.

I wouldnt be surprised if they added a few cosmetic packs for the room of requirement either. As long as they don't take the piss with it I would be fine with that, which is unlike me as I never buy into all that.

With a game this good I hope they make a fortune and continue to support it throughout this generation.

I think I read somewhere that a dataminer found that 1/4 of the map was cut, a highlands area and something else. Maybe they cut it and will use it for DLC later on?

I am also Hufflepuff. Her name is Poppy Sweeting. She is also Hufflepuff.

It feels like this is the first time a developer took a look at interactions between characters and thought "how can we make this feel human? Rather than video gamey".

This game man. It is amazing.

Fuck yeah. Hufflepuff rules. I absolutely love you can find cats everywhere and pet them.

I'm going to look out for her.

I know I just replied to you but made me think a bit more....

So far the student characters I've interacted with seem quite lonely or have been bullied. It's sad but it makes me feel for them. Like you say, the devs must have thought how can we get people to related to them? I've met a boy who seems to be bullied, a girl who is stressed out an anxious, and another little girl who is so lonely with no friends.
Even on Series S Perfomance Mode game looks really good

It seems like the PC version of the game uses more than 16gb of memory. I noticed some parts slowed down for a few seconds. Something got maxed out.

Yeah it definitely does.

I've seen up to 21GB RAM usage (with 32GB ram capacity). VRAM usage is 11-13GB on the GPU. The game is memory intensive. 16GB ain't gonna cut it.

The idea of using Revelio to show all items you can interact with was brilliant.
I mean, let’s not get carried away here. It’s a “detective” mode like we have had in countless open world games.

I’m loving the game, but so far, other than charm (with an already charming IP) nothing to me has pushed beyond Skyrim or Witcher. (This isn’t a criticism)

Yeah. I will have to add some memory to my computer. Upgrade the old Alienware.
It'll help but this game is by far the most demanding game I've played on my PC. I need to run DLSS with frame generation to stay above 60fps and I have a 4080. Without RTX I can do 130-140fps but RTX can tank fps to about 60-70fps and makes the game stutter like crazy. I'm not even playing at 4K but 1440p.

You can stick more memory in but you need a seriously powerful PC to run this. You can of course lower settings but the game hits hard. If you upgrade RAM it'll likely just bottleneck somewhere else.

They are doable at lvl 10 though, beat them at lvl 8; when I went exploring in the forbidden forest at lvl 11, most enemies were lvl 20 and it was still fine.
Protego is key, since the counter breaks shields as well, most people I've seen failing these fights almost feels like they completely ignore protego and try to attack as much as possible and then dodge at the last second.
It's much easier to let the enemies just kill themselves; wait for a protego, counter, accio, spell, incendio, three more spells, leviosa, finish them off. While doing this just keep watching -your own character- so you can see if another protego chance pops up and just repeat.

I'll spend more time exploring and give it another try. I think the main issue is the camera. The FOV just feels so small despite having it at max. If i could easily keep everyone in my vision I'd do better.

Pretty exciting start to a game.

Did a couple classes and stopped before heading over to hogsmead.

Never considered myself a big Harry Potter fan but I've read all the books and have seen all the movies multiple times.

Hopefully get a performance patch soon.

Yeah. I have noticed that RTX does not work real great with this one. It is one of those games the seems to require DLSS.

That when you represent a company you shouldnt be this emotional and give twitter shitheads ammunition? Thats hes way too good at his job to dignify a twitter cunt with this kind of response? Im sure. Still, shits funny.

Anyways, this game's performance is awful. Wonder if its a Resident Evil 8 situation of DRM on top of DRM. Seems itll take a time to find out.

The indicators are on your character, so try practicing the following:
Engage in battle, turn your camera 180 degrees away from the enemy, now all you do is look at your own character, heck even mute the game if that helps, but just look at the character and wait for a protego indicator to pop up and press it exactly as it becomes 1 circle; you've now countered he enemy without even knowing where they were.
If it's a red indicator, dodge obv.

So far for me, the game feels exactly like high school. Each student has their hang ups, but are all good people and just trying to solve their issues and have fun.

This game is like Elden Ring, but actually attempting to tell a story and flesh out characters. I hate to keep gushing over this game but it really is like one of the best ever made.
