Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Bombed With Negative Reviews On Steam

  • Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has received a total of 70% negative reviews on launch day.
  • Most of the negative reviews reported mouse and keyboard control issues.
  • The game also has lots of performance issues with the PC port of the game.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has received a slew of negative reviews on Steam due to its terrible mouse and keyboard support. Currently, the game is sitting at around 3,000 reviews, with about 70% of them being outright negative.

Most of the negative reviews seem to hold poor optimization for the game’s mouse and keyboard controls, while others report performance issues for the PC port of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Note that the game’s demo was available for a while before the game’s release. The mouse and keyboard control issues were also present in the game’s demo version.
As reported by the reviewers on Steam, there have been a fair number of performance issues with the PC port of the game. Given that it is the launch day, the devs would likely release patches to fix most of the performance issues in due time.

Additionally, the action RPG has crossed 75,000 players on Steam. The number refers to Steam concurrent users only, as the game is also available on Microsoft Store for purchase.

A shame, really. I tried the demo out and on my rig it had the strange stutter, so it just wasn't easy to play whatsoever. No matter how settings were tampered with, it wouldn't go away. So I just decided to uninstall it, lol.

Some devs really need to be better about their PC ports, it can really make or break something.

Sounds like theres some serious issues with the game. Koei Tecmo game with poor or no KB&M support is to be expected at this point.
Are Capcom and Sony the only japanese publishers left that release decent pc ports now that square got rid of their western stuff? :messenger_unamused:

A lot of people like playing these games with mouse and keyboard. They should leave another screen in there that says this is best played with a controller.

Once I noticed that the playstation buttons were displayed despite having a xbox controller plugged in I noped out of there, deleted it and downloaded the PS5 version.

Hate to say it, but good. Publishers need to get the message, and this is the only way to get it across. Bad ports should never be tolerated, nor should publishers treating PC like a second class platform be the norm. Release a broken port, get negative reviews and poor sales. Eventually they're gonna have to figure it out.

Serves them right.I am not one to wish any game fails, but I also simply cannot stand this growing trend of unpolished/unfinished games being released and us hoping they get patched later.

Its not like they are giving us the game for free and hoping we pay them later.

And this is not review bombing...its just an actual review.

Wow, Wo Long and the Destiny 2 expansion both hammered with mostly negative reviews this week.

I played the demo got to the first boss 4 tries and i got the first phase down and he goes to second phase. I can't dodge his hits though i can parry some of his hits the ranged red i can it has forgiving parry window but the close red attack i can't find how to Parry it....
After 30 deaths went back to farm came back after 3 hours and still the same thing.

I hate that i have to start first phase again and then die fast on the second it's demotivated me, i dont have the time to study every attack pattern. I can play 1 or two hours at the evening not all day practicing the time windows to Parry attacks
I don't ask a easy game just something to respect my time, elders ring let me to play on my pace and i had to learn some bosses but never felt that if i put couple attempt i won't be able to beat a particular boss here i can't pass the first boss and i see that i won't be able ever to beat it no matter what...i guess the game is not for me.

It doesn't make sense to me that so many PC players play non shooter action games with mouse and keyboard, I'm PC player since forever and can't imagine not having a controller for at least those games, hell I even forgot that option existed 😂

Been playing this for quite a few hours now on GP on PC.
There are 2 levels where the game legit crashes to desktop every five minutes and for how ancient it looks it sure is working my 3080 hard. Then there is a gazillion other more or less serious issues like flickering, the render distance for certain enemies bugging out here and there etc....
The base tech as well as the QA is garbage.

The second big Koei Tecmo release within a few weeks that speaks volumes about the technical incompetence of the developers there.
The combat designers have done a fabulous job, everyone else on the project... Not so much.
I'm glad I decided to go for the 3 buck GP option instead of buying the game.

I played Nioh 1 and played until 40-50% there was grind but it was manageable never felt that a boss is not doable when putting the effort but ultimately just life got in the way and the game needed too much focus that i couldn't put at that time. I think if i go back to it i can beat it even if not i made it to half of the game here i can't defeat the first boss...anyway there are 8 billions people not everything is for everyone.

Edit: If they let me drop directly on the second phase i could learn what to do after many attempts but not starting from 0. I would love to buy the game, i am sucker for games with stats.

75K peak concurrent is really good.

And they had to ruin it all with a shoddy PC release. They've announced patches to fix that, but surely this should have been detected in testing?
Yeah that’s amazing.

Koei does the same shit with most of their releases. Ninja Gaiden and Fatal Frame came out with performance issues, missing options, no controller support, etc. They do t give a FUCK!

Tons of PC gamers play the Soul/Elden ring games with K&M. The key binds almost make it OP.

No no no no no this is just wrong. It's like playing zelda with a separate control panel, it's cheating. My feathers are ruffled.

so people said the demo had clear shader stutters on PC in the Steam version but not the "Xbox" version, I downloaded the "xbox" version of the demo from the Windows store and it had zero stutters in the opening section (I didn't play it for long but long enough to where I should have had stutters)

currently installing the PC gamepass version to check that out

Nothing is wrong. People can play however they want and if it's a PC game saying controller is mandatory is idiotic. The PC platform is an open platform and every developer that launches on PC should offer support for both controller and keyboard and mouse.

Playing it on XSX via Game Pass for now. It plays great on console. Shame about the port. Will buy it down the road for PC when on sale for the mods.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I feel for the people leaving negative reviews. The trend of bad PC ports has gotten worse ever since the new (console) generation started.

The port situation seemed to have sorted itself out for most of the PS4/XBO gen.

Honestly fuck em... what the heck is happening with the latest gens of codemonkeys? This game looks like trash and it's very demanding. Stuttering and all on PC but it's also quite demanding on console.

It's time users start calling devs for this BS. Of I don't see any improvement visually why would specs go up so much. This doesn't look much different than nioh, a game that started development on the PS3.

Thank God I am not on reset era or else:

USER BANNED: 357 years. Lazy dev rhetoric.

EDIT: This is a cross gen game!! WTF!!! This should be running at 1800p 30 fps on an RX 580

Xbox one targets 1080p 30. PC minimum specs FOR SIETE friggin VEINTE P: 8th gen I5 Rx 570. That's some insane unoptimization. Is wo long mining Ethereum while running this game?

lmao I just tried playing the game on Steam. 20 minutes of changing settings, Nvidia profile inspector tweaks, etc. and I can't play the game for more than 5 minutes without it crashing. I get white flashes when running around quickly too. I didn't really have any issues with the demo. And before you ask I have 12GB of VRAM.

If I don't get this running perfectly in 30 min. it's a refund, negative review, and maybe I'll play it on PS5 but I kind of just want to give KT/TN the finger for trying to sell me something at full price that is actually unplayable.

Man PC gaming can't catch a break recently. It sucks to see a good game getting this kinds of reviews, but can't fault people for expressing their concern after buying the product and not getting the experience they expect/deserve.

This isn't Souls/Elden Ring and it was designed for console.

Maybe try playing it the way it was intended to be played, and not trying to shoe-horn it onto kb/m, just because you're too stubborn to adapt.

Nioh 1 and 2 worked fine with m/kb and they were after thoughts to bring it to pc. If we are going to take your attitude then fps on consoles should drop controller support because it's not the best way to play them and requires assists.

Console gamers generally don't complain about either the presence or absence of KB/mouse support even though the hardware has been capable of supporting it for the past 3 generations at least.

no shader stutters on the Windows Store (Xbox app) version of the full version either.

but like I said in the other thread, I think Team Ninja's camera system doesn't work properly at anything that isn't a locked 60fps.
which brings us to the next issue, the game's internal FPS lock doesn't work properly. even if you turn on Vsync and set it to 60fps it simply doesn't stay at 60fps, it will constantly fluctuate below 60 for no reason whatsoever.
I can run the game at 70+ fps at near max settings at 1440p, but as soon as I lock to 60 in the game, the game will constantly drop to 58 or 57 fps.

in Ni-Oh back in the day, if you played in 30fps mode or unlocked graphics mode (high res at unlocked 30fps target that can get to 60fps) the camera movement felt unfathomably terrible and stuttery. as if it is jumping an uneven amount of distance every frame.
and the same is clearly happening here too. I have Gsync enabled, exclusive full screen on, fps is above 60fps at all times basically, and it feels like a stuttery mess even tho my FPS monitor never notices a stutter.

if you lock it to 60fps using RivaTuner however it locks perfectly to 60fps, no wonky internal framerate lock, and it feels perfectly smooth! no weird camera jumps, perfect 60fps. set the in-game lock to 120 and the riva tuner lock to 60

edit: here a video with Riva Tuner on

I personally wouldn't play on kb but I can see it working just fine. Seems things like parrying would be even easier.

-Japanese developer releases a port on PC
-PC gamers find out that it was optimized for a Japanese console
-PC gamers find out that the controls were optimized for a Japanese console

PC gamers every single time:

If they want to enjoy the sales on a platform it should be properly supported or delayed until it is. Pretty simple. Now if they don't want to, then they can expect bad reviews to continue.

I'm playing souls with controllers, so your little edgy insult, I really don't care. But it doesn't take a long time to have a few goddamn neurons firing in there to understand that some peoples will want keyboard+mouse.

Maybe devs who are porting to PC should start by supporting the BASIC 40+ year control method of it? They supported mouse with a fucking controller deadzone. Cmon. Or you know, keep that trash to consoles, who gives a shit really. Want trash reviews? Its a good way to do it.

Yes, but at a certain point the PC crowd should take precautions. I usually buy most JP games on console anyway unless the developer is known for not treating the PC version like sloppy seconds.
