Yeah they still keep the giraffe scene.

I'm so excited, it feels like waiting to see the last ep in a season of Game of Thrones before it started chugging on a big one.

Anyone notice in the recap of the entire season how much of episode 3 they showed

Nothing

Again, episode three was one of the best episodes of television but worst episode of The Last of Us because it did zero for the story we are watching

Very satisfied with the finale, solid 9/10. But my main complaint is the same as most of the other episodes, not enough infected. Love how they kept the final scene exactly the same.

Rated every episode on IMDb, came out to a 8.6. Pretty solid.

This show set the bar for video game adaptations. That finale was everything it needed to be.

Looking forward to Season 2 in 2-3 years.

At the same time, I agree that the overall season felt a bit rushed and a bit more infected would have been nice.

I thought it was really well done. Small gripe is the car scene where they want you leave you hanging on whether or not he took Ellie with him, could've lasted a liiiittle bit longer to keep you hanging, but other than that it was fine. Could've been a little longer, sure, but I liked it. Overall great adaptation.

Great finale, though nothing unexpected for game players (feels like typing "book readers" as a qualifier... entering new grounds here, finally a good video game adaptation).

Good finale. My only complaint is the way Patro delivered some of his lines at the end. The "You'll just come after her" looked robotic.

And I was right, 45 minutes was enough time. They even covered the flashback with Anna and Marlene.

Very good season. Thank fuck they managed to not fuck it up. Overall I obviously prefer the game, but thats fine. Its still there to play. All I needed was it to be good enough to not embarrass the story, and the show surpassed that thankfully. It'll help make the game more mainstream and all that. Was cool to see Ashley and Troy get actual roles, not just lil cameos.

In the end, somewhat mixed feelings, but overall positive thoughts. There are some things I prefer from the show and some from the game. They are both welcome to exist happily in my brain. Idk, that's a win in my book.

Thank you for not totally fucking it up. If a person's only knowledge of TLoU comes from this show, they still get it. So, well done.

"What? It can't end that way, can it?"

Was the reaction from significant other who never played the game. I remember thinking the same way after my first playthrough.

In the game Joel says "baby girl" again when he picks up Ellie. Thought the episode missed that a tiny bit, but overall no big deal.

Also, shout out for hinting at why Ellie might be immune in a subtle way. It was very clever, treated the audience with a level of respect (not beating us over the head with some corny overwrought explanation) while also letting AJ be totally boss (and by extension Ellie). Was good.

Just had a talk with my mother and she said if that was me on that table she would have killed everybody in that hospital. I think opinion will be split between parents and non parents.

The finale was good. Happy to see they adapted the game well overall, even if I have my own personal criticisms.

I'm really interested to see what they do with Season 2. Since I didn't like the game, I don't care if they alter stuff - hopefully for the better. I'm not sure Bella Ramsey can carry the show, so hopefully they cast Abbey well and actually make her a sympathetic character. I don't like any of the characters in Part 2 - Ellie included - so as far as I'm concerned, there's tons of room for improvement on the source material whereas I consider the first game pretty much perfect.

Great subtlety showing Joel quickly and quietly glance at the hospital map on the wall. Now he knows the path he needs to take to get to Ellie and fffffuck everybody up on his way

Haven't watched the last episode yet, but after playing the games, I know what happens.

The debate will start all over again.

But in a real world situation, Joel's action would be seen as selfish.

Season was decent. Seems like it went a bit faster than I would have preferred. The game seems more epic than the show did so the bond Joel and Ellie form seems more natural.

I’m amazed how true the show is to the source material, shot for shot at times.

I guess I am the only one that felt the pacing was fine? I much prefer the faster pacing to added filler. I never felt like I was missing something. I loved this season and I am looking forward to the next.

We got an amazing episode 3 that didn’t really move the plot forward besides how they got the truck. I think there was room for one more episode like that.

They finally gave me the 1:1 copy pasta episode ive been asking for, but its too little too late. They left out a lot of stuff and changed some crucial things that were needed to land the finale. I was kind of happy that the hospital scene and the ending played out 1:1 but it still didn't land for me.

Really liked the scene with Ashley Johnson too. First truly great addition by Mazin.

Only problem i have with this episode is that they cut that 'i dont have time for this' scene. In the game, that line turns it into a torture scene and tbh, that was the first time i was like ok this man is something else. Oh and not having anyone go 'You fucking monster' in the surgery room was a missed opportunity. in the game, it made me even more upset and I then shot everyone in that room lol.

Overall, its not a bad show. Not a particularly great show, but when it comes to game adaptations its probably the best I've ever seen. It's crazy how faithful they were to game, and precisely why its so disappointing to see them diverge at crucial story moments. It all started with casting, and then episodes 3 and 7 just grinded the story to a halt in an already short 9 episode season. Good to see them admit that Season 1 was short on zombie encounters because TLOU2 does not have a great story to begin with. They will need all the setpieces they can get to help us get through that slog of a story. I really hope they focus on both Ellie and Abby at the same time.

Oh my god who cares? Who has time to fucking torture a dude in the context of a TV show in that moment? For what?

You didn't get a feeling that Joel was different when people were surrendering their weapons to him and he was just coldly shooting them in the face? They got the point across clear as day.

Some people ...

That’s actually the entire point of that scene. Joel had no time to torture him so he straight up shoots him in the stomach showing the guy that he didn’t care about his life enough to even threaten torture. It was brutal in ways a simple headshot can never be. If you don’t see the difference then there is nothing more to discuss.

Right and you're saying you're mad (by saying you had a problem) they "cut" the scene where he tortured him? The way they handled getting the point across about Joel's ruthless, selfish, and good natured soul landed perfectly.

I thought Joel shoots him in the balls in the game??? That’s what I always assumed

This would make absolutely no sense for them to do this.
wat. So far they’ve nailed the tone and every other part of the adaptation. It would make no sense to completely alter the tone and point of the second game by not fleshing out Abby and her motivations.

btw wasn’t the actress who played the preggo WLF in the last episode? One of the ladies in the group was a dead ringer for her

This finale hits way harder in the TV series than it did in the game for me. A part of it is the direction and musical score, but also the additional lines of “time doesn’t heal all wounds” that really set the context for the rest of the episode.

Masterful ending to a pitch perfect adaptation.

I think the TV series will adapt TLOU2 way better than the game ever did too, just because of the terrible structure the game had which lends itself way better to a TV series than a game.
