The sky islands are much bigger than I expected. Thought they were going to be bit sized and puzzle oriented similar to shrines going by past footage. Glad that's not the case. Gonna be fun to explore.

From the looks of it they didn't fix any problems people had with the first game so far.

Only added more features and padding.
well the real issues could have not been shown for lack of time, like real dungeons and more enemy variety..

weapon durability wasn't an actual issue, it actually kept the whole game from falling apart,,it was just a mechanic some people didn't like

Managed to get it with a reduced priced Nintendo voucher for about £32 so I'm not complaining...

I might when I play the game though... Ubisoft of the Wild becomes Ubisoft of the Kingdom, let's see if attempt 2 can win me over.

Here is a Rundown of what was shown.

Here's what happened during the March 2023 Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom stream

  • Eiji Aonuma opens the broadcast by saying that development on Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is "now complete"
  • 40 seconds in, we're shown gameplay - "if we talk about all the changes today, we'll run out of time," Aonuma says
  • "In this game, the vast world of Hyrule reaches the sky..." Aonuma calls them the "Sky Islands"
  • A chunk of rock suddenly falls from the sky, and Link uses the rewind power to cause it to fly back up, with Link riding it in the process
  • Breakable items are still in, including a tree branch used as a weapon
  • Link is shown fighting a "Construct," a new type of enemy in Tears of the Kingdom (the items dropped include a Zonai Charge, and a Soldier Construct Horn)
  • After the branch broke, the demo showcased a "new ability for Link" called fuse, which melds a branch and a rock together into one weapon as a "makeshift hammer" - it has "much better durability" than the broken branch
  • The next fuse demonstration includes a stick and a pitchfork to form a pike - a leaf/piece of ice are fused into an arrow to freeze enemies - fusing arrows and eyeballs create homing arrows - fusing mushrooms to shields creates a smoke effect when blocking
  • The demo shows link manipulating logs using the ultrahand power to attach them together to form a boat - a wind machine/fan can be attached to the boat to power it - you can "freely craft" structures and machines
  • Another power, ascend, was used - you can ascend through the floor and "emerge" at the top of a structure, including using it in caves to ascend mountains - "in the previous game you had to use stamina, but now you can use ascend to climb up"
  • Enemies can use fused weapons as well - a Construct using window power to swipe at Link was shown
  • When diving out of the Sky Islands back to the main overworld, you can "speed things up" by diving quicker (hey, a makeshift battle royale!)

Wow, that's awesome, here in Canada we get truly fucked with those stupid coupons, it only results in a $10 saving here.

34 turns to 57.10CAD and even using the tickets thing it turns into $70CAD. The game's MSRP in Canada is $90CAD and that turns into $103CAD with tax from most provinces.

Nintendo being Nintendo, seems like they‘ve never read any opinions of their fanbase regarding their shitty weapon durability or stamina mechanic. Looks like an expansion. It‘s my most wanted game this year but it feels like it‘s going to be skyward sword all over again. Looks like BotW with an additional 100hrs bloat.

And to those saying this isn't worth $70, if this game isn't, no game ever made is.
I mean its not out yet and I got it for £32 so it's certainly not worth paying almost double for if you have the point to spend.

And I used 4 games worth of gold points which knocked 20 quid off the price of the voucher. Boom £32 zelda.

For us in the UK games are £50, the voucher for two are £84 so that's £16 saving, but Zelda is £60 because its special... so if you use a voucher for it, its a £26 saving. Then for every digital game you buy you get 5% of its price in gold coins, so buy 4 games that's £20 off, which I used for the voucher. So that's a £46 saving spread across Metriod Dread and Zelda.

Gold points can only be spent on certain things as far as I'm aware, vouchers being one, so I think people will have them saved up to spend and not even realise.

If your idea of "fixing" means "removing" then, no. They didn't "fix them".
They're giving you options if you don't wan't do deal with those mechanics.
You know. Actually fixing them. Instead of going the Mass Effect 2 route where the Mako was "fixed" instead of fixed.

Pretty nice gameplay. I wonder if you can fuse more than 2 weapons.

Now we got coordinate in the minimap, pretty useful

BOTW has outsold any previous Zelda title 3:1.

You live in an internet bubble. You are not "the fanbase". I liked the weapon durability and we both paid Nintendo the same amount of money for the game.

So we could put delays concerns to rest as development is complete. I think they showed enough for me. The only issue with this game is that the release date can’t get here sooner.

My thoughts: i think the fuse stuff is very clever and much more interesting than just taking out durability. It is pushing the game into "immersive sim" territory. The ascend stuff looks game breaking but I am sure it isn't. These two things will likely change the feel of the game significantly, but I still think there is a lot they are not showing us.

*freeze frame* *record scratch* yep, that's me...you're probably wondering how i got here...

That ascend ability looks game changing to be honest. Really excited for that mechanic as it looks like it will make traversal a breeze!

Also we needed a Switch 2 like yesterday lol. I'm all about artstyle over raw graphics but man... definitely showing how low fidelity this is overall. :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Put your pitchforks down, already pre-ordered this.

I can understand the criticism about the graphics and I agree with them but they propably did what they could with the weak-ass system so I doubt they were lazy.

That being said, BotW was my #1 game until Elden Ring came out so seeing TotK being the same as BotW but with extra features is all I could ask for.

Cool. I pre-ordered a few days before they announced $70, so I get $10 off being very lucky!

Regarding durability, the idea behind it in the first game was that players would always try new weapons and be exposed to different gameplay.

That got a mixed reception, so in this game, they allow you to craft weapons on a whim, so if you like the branch/rock club thing, all you need to do is gather a bunch of rocks and branches, and then you can stock up on 10 powerful weapons that you like. This should reduce the feeling that you only have weak weapons that break, and increase your abilities to stock up on weapons you want.

Looking forward to buying this and playing it on Steam Deck with mods like increased weapon durability/no break.
You do realize that "I own it so I can get a copy of it" isn't a real legal thing and just some stupid myth that people have created to make themselves feel OK with ROMS right?

Even in a loose technical term, you don't own the right to get a COPY you just own the COPY you purchased, or the digital license for that good to use AS IS.

What you're purposing is just as illegal as downloading without first buying(to just justify the piracy in your mind).

It is... with one key caveat that most users miss, the image your using to play must be taken from the physical copy you own.

Essentially if you go online and download someone else's copy of a ROM... yep that's 100% illegal, however it would require the licence holder to effectively prove that the copy you own is not the same image you are using to play. Now Nintendo would need to prove this beyond reasonable doubt and their certainly are ways, but when someone owns a physical copy of the game at the time it becomes astronomically harder to do, and why do it? The guy bought your game go after someone who didn't even do that, it's far more productive.

I'm surprised by how bad it looks... the fidelity is worse than the first while being basically the same game. Glad I'll be playing this emulated, but I weep for people playing this on an actual switch.

Also, on the note of being basically the same as BOTW: Wow, I expected they would put more effort into making it feel more different, by what they shown it just looks like a very elaborate fan mod that added more abilities and "levels" on top of the existing map.

It's funny to me that people are ok with Wii U-level visuals in 2023. It's even funnier that some *defend* it like it was some sort of artistic choice. You could literally cut bread with these jaggies. 🤔
The day a game's visuals make me not play it is the day I quit gaming altogether. If I want pretty graphics, I go to a museum, or go outside and touch grass.
I'm here for the gameplay. And Breath of the Wild was superb in that department. The fact that the sequel is expanding on that is already a win in my book.

Jaggies? I don't care.
Blurry textures? I don't care.
It's in 720p? I don't care.
I think it looks pretty. That's all I care.

But in your own explaination you see, that the proof of purchase doesn't matter.

This whole "I bought it so I can emulate it on a different device" isn't real in any sense.

Nintendo ESPECIALLY doesn't care if you bought a COPY of the game first, they'd think you're the same scum. To them they just see you now have 2 COPIES when you legally are entitled to ONE.

Like I said, that entire approach is a cute "I can sleep at night" lie that people tell themselves.

they read it of course.
but they also realized the effects that it has on the gameplay loop and that it has to stay

Adding to what was already the greatest game ever made? It's a forgone conclusion at this point.
It's true, there's never been a sequel in the history of videogames that failed to live up to its predecessor.

If people manage to miss the Pacific Ocean of weapons that Breath of the Wild throws at you, and you still bitch about weapon durability, you're playing the game wrong.
Could just be that people didn't care for it.

It's not just fine, it's a good system.

As is always the case, Gamers™ want to optimize the fun out of everything possible. They want to find the weapon with the highest damage stat and use that for 100 hours because it's optimal. Forget that the durability system encourages you to try every type of weapon in the game and is actually a complete non-issue after a few hours when you start tripping over more weapons than you can possibly carry. Shit, you even get a sword that repairs itself over time later on.

My weapon broke, do I complain about it on message boards for 6 years, or do I press a button and switch to the next one I have? A difficult decision.
