Chelsea's spending habits alongside their lack of success are pretty aligned with his values.

kinda funny tbh
That is what happens, when you have an American owner who only sees $$$. He is clueless as hell.
He has the same vision as MS had during Xbox One launch.

Absolutely crazy that its outselling the Xbox 2 to 1 in the US.

I dont even have words...Pressures on, Guess Phil will be on the way out.

Crazy what lifetime numbers the PS5 would already have if it would have been available everywhere since launch. But lets see if the trend slows down or if the next couple months continue to show similar records.
It will definitely slow down. Console is approaching 40 million sales. By the end of the year they will be around 50 million which is when they will have to start cutting prices to get the people who only buy $300 consoles. I think the slim console will help them get the discless version down to $299 while they will keep the physical edition to $399.

The question is will there be a demand for a discless console at $299? People still overwhelmingly prefer disc versions and the xss wasnt exactly flying off the shelves because people who traditionally want cheaper consoles wait for cheaper physical sales.

I think it's outselling the Series even more than 2 to 1. Weren't there estimations for February that put them like at 195k for Series consoles and PS5 at over 525k?
Can't remember where i saw those though...

Subscriptions slowing is not the news that companies who want subscriptions to become the future of gaming would like to hear.

But it's great that big titles like Hogwarts Legacy and RE4 are selling really well.
TLOU Part 1 is basically having a relaunch phase thanks to the TV series which proves the point that synergy between different form of entertainments can support growth.

And we're seeing that again with Mario thanks to the Super Mario movie. Big gains for Odyssey and others on the UK charts thanks to the film.

Meanwhile, the Paramount Halo show probably did more to kill Halo Infinite sales than encourage people to buy it, because it never showed back up in NPD Top 10 outside of its debut month. Truly sad.

Was there a numbers leak? Or did Mat mention this himself?

I wouldn't find it hard to believe but it's the first time since the NPD leaks that'd I'd of seen confirmation of PS5 clearly outselling XBS 2:1.

Nah, PS5 sold 30M by the end of the year and Sony intended to sell 6M from January to March. It's probably at 36/37M by now.
But it will surpass 40M until June for sure.

Jesus Christ...
PS4 sales in January of 2016 reached 35 million sold through. March was 40 million shipped. PS4 sold 40 million in month 31

If PS5 is now ahead of March total sales it's 40 million ps5's. Ahead by two months

But but we were told that the Xbox Series S and Gamepass were supposed to be the best value in gaming. I wonder what happened?

Is Microsoft planning to react or ...? What is the story here ?

Phil should be fired with immediate effect
React to what? They want to make the most money possible. They don't care about console sales as much as Sony does.

Phil is going nowhere because Xbox's revenue will match Playstation's revenue when the Activision deal goes through. Which is what they care about

Better studios than Xbox one. they own Bethesda, ninja theory and obsidian. they will also own Activision if it gets approved, which should see them around 90m.

They have gamepass with day1 games, they are pushing hard for 3rd party deals.

All these are factors for higher sales.
All those games would have been available anyway, regardless of acquisition.

Last gen was the same. They will give him another promotion. You fail upwards at Microsoft.

The gamepass pivot killed the brand in regards to console. Current xbox leadership is the worse in its history(look at the numbers). Heads need to roll at that division.
Gamepass might have had an effect on software sales, but hardware? Thats on exclusives and lack of games, period. Last year was absolutely awful aside from Elden Ring. No reason for anyone to buy consoles. Sony had HFW, GT7, and GOW, cross gen games but still something. MS hasnt had a cross gen exclusive since Halo and Forza in 2021. Games sell consoles. When the industry took an off year last year, first party had to step up. I suspect had Starfield released last year in November, the sales would not be this low. Big exclusives generate excitement. People talk at work, at school, and that excitement gets others to buy in. MS shouldve moved mountains to get Starfield out last year. If they had $70 billion to spend on activision, they shouldve had a few million to get some support studios to pitch in or use their 24 first party studios to go help that gmae ship on time.

And not just starfield, but redfall and forza, both of which were announced as 2022 titles. The first few years are very important and while its not the end of the world for Xbox just yet, a lot of people have already made their decision to buy the one next gen console they will buy next gen. Starfield and forza will help close the gap and might even win a month or two, but they've already lost that crucial early adopter race to the PS5.

Damn, so we're seeing a big increase in Europe and now in USA (and probably in the rest of the world too) but if we end up the year with PS5 crossing the 50 million mark and Xbox not getting to 30 million... game over. And unless Sony somehow drops the ball with their games, I just can't see how Xbox would get back on track to be neck to neck with them.

I'm actually really happy for Sony with this news because if this does not send a clear message that Microsoft needs to sort their release schedule out, secure third party marketing deals on big games like Hogwarts and Resi 4, I don't know what else does.

Stop talking all that shite and step up, deliver good games and great deals for your customer base. Make the platform appealing. Go after big games for gamepass, but also marketing deals on everyday third party games. They have to change that narrative...just copy sony and spend the money...it's not hard really is it?

Xbox needs a cultural shift for sure. Gaming is about games and their output has been lacking. If you want people to buy into your thing you have to give them reasons to do so. "Day 1 on game pass" is meaningless when nothing compelling is releasing. HiFi Rush was great and all but it feels like a fluke more than anything else.

Drop the hardware. Go 3rd party like Sega.

It makes sense. What incentive do Microsoft have to keep making their own hardware when people are choosing not to buy it? They can instead put their software on more popular platforms and make alot of money that way. Having their own hardware is holding them back. They gave it a go but it might be time to give it up.

I thought TLOU2 could've made top 20. That's unfortunate

Made Top 20 last month. It's dollar sales not units sold so older games on discount obviously have to sell a lot more copies to make a dollar sales chart.

Like TLOU2 would have to sell somewhere between 3 to potentially 6 times as many copies compared to RE4 or TLOU 1 Remake to reach the same point on the sales chart.

I asked the guy who tweets it out over DM and he isn't allowed disclose Unit Sales

They want the 30% cut of third party revenue their store generates.

It was never a competition.

You can't sell a lot of consoles after a bad period.

Xbox needs this Gen to sort Xbox one issues.

Their estimated lifetime would be around 80m-90m.
While PS is Targeting 130+m.
It most certainly was a competition and Xbox was primed by all appearances to make a serious run at increasing market share. It just completely failed to execute when it mattered.

Subscription spend is slowing? Like other popular subscription services e.g. Netflix and Disney Plus. Heck even Netflix is pursuing other avenues (Games) and theatrical releases, to make money.

The numbers aren't growing as big as they were hoping for (pandemic era).

Gamepass doesn't make sense for the casual gamer that want to just play a lot of one or two games a year, or FTP titles each year, as those games are not on there.

Even the more hardcore gamers I struggle to see how you get value out of it when the 3-4 games you want to play a year are not on there.

The other big factor is time, the most valuable demographic for Gamepass aside from families are individuals who work i.e they are time poor. So quantity over quality really doesn't make any sense.

Lastly, PS Plus is now just as good and likely stops any consumers looking for that type of thing from jumping platform.
