Star Wars Jedi Survivor PC Performance Discussion OT: May The Port Be With You

The Unified memory of 16GB and Fast SSD with offloaded decompressor of the consoles are the main culprit of the bad ports. Hopefully DirectStorage and RTX IO can solve this.
The german video in this thread runs it on a system with 56GB of unified memory, likely an SSD on a windows version already supporting DirectStorage which is faster than whatever consoles have. Directstorage and RTX io wont solve a thing if they dont use it.

The hardware is not the culprit. The software is.

It runs pretty much flawlessly, you are always gonna find someome having problem with a specific pc port because their pc is an hot mess.

I know people love to talk shit and maybe it's because i have a pretty good pc, but i can really count on one hand the games that were unplayable on pc this year for me.

Some minor stutter in dead space and hogwarts doesn't erase the fact that for 95% of playtime i was enjoying these games at 4k120 maxed out.

I played callisto on console and it was a much worse shitshow tham anything i played on pc this year and without the pc eyecandy to add salt to the wound.
Have you tried Jedi Survivor? Is it running well on your rig?

Is it really that bad or are people trying to run the game cranked to the max on settings with a 3060 / 3070 expecting crazy results forgetting the fact they over paid for a low VRAM GPU during lockdown?

Not sure what you mean. The 4090 is over 3x the performance of the consoles' GPUs and high-end PC CPUs are like twice as fast (forgot the exact number).
Usually at this point pc cpus were anywhere from 5 - 10x faster (going all the way back ps1) so only 2x is a drastic slowing of pace.

GPU delta is a bit harder to directly compare since architectures didn't line up so neatly until ps4, but even there, 3x was far more accessible than 4x the price of console for gpu alone.

The hubris and mental gymnastics from PC gamers has been amazing the last couple of years.

There was a time where PC was my primary platform, mainly due to 60fps and good value. But looking at the landscape now, PC is becoming the snake oil of the gaming world. Sky high prices and shit results.

There has never been a better time to be a console gamer. I’ll have to get a feather duster for my midrange rig.
Do some people read the stupid shit that they tap before posting? PC gamers are paying customers, just like you are. Devs shit out a garbage port, instead of going after the ones responsible, you go "hur hur, serves you right PC gamers"?

Shit on NVIDIA for cheating you out of VRAM but mocking PC gamers for what is essentially a botched port that is solely the fault of the company is utterly moronic.

So many folk seething in this thread. Just don't buy it and play some of those hundred or so steam games that you bought in previous sales yet didn't install.

Wait it out. Be strong. You can do it. I believe in you.

I miss PC gaming less and less. I still have a capable laptop but find myself just going console for HDR and 4k.

I have a PC with 4K, HDR and the ability to run games at 120fps. Not sure why anyone would enjoy having to pick whether they want to sacrifice resolution or performance in every game they play. This isn't the PCs fault. It's lazy development. I have an Xbox and PS5 BTW. They are only used for exclusives.

I’m about to sell my Series X. I never use it and there hasn’t been an exclusive that I’ve wanted to play that hasn’t been released on PC so I think I’m just going to sell it and put that money towards a new CPU

Saying it is lazy development is lazy. The PC is not the development target, which is becoming so common that this is now an issue.

My consoles also do 120. They're also $500. Keep that in mind when you're doing your dick measuring exercise.

I was actually planning on playing it tonight. But since my PC just meets the minimum requirements, I'm not sure if it's even worth downloading the thing.

I really hate when people play defense and blame the customers so they can protect their favorite multi-billion dollar company. Check out Durante. Every PC port he is involved in is near perfect. Why is it that other devs can't do that. I'll leave the dick measuring to you. Not really my thing.

Its not like theres any rush to play a single player game, and as you said peoples backlogs are bound to be massive right now.

Who is blaming customers? I'm pointing out that the current state of PC gaming is making me gravitate towards the console because I left the tweaking part of my gaming hobby behind.

The best outcome for everyone is not even knowing who does the port because every release is as easy to consume as the console version. Especially when they want to charge similar prices.

Here found video, but this seems like Arena location, so fps higher. Open/City locations seems difference story

It's like some Gaffers have a contest on who can type out the most nonsensical posts.

"The PC is not the development target". What the fuck does that even mean? They're releasing a PC version, so yes it is. All platforms the game is released on are the target. Yes, it's 100% on the dev, not on the platform. PC is just a bunch of components. It's not a legal entity like Sony or Microsoft.

Or better yet...delay the PC version? Rockstar does it by up to a year. What's a 1-2 months which is usually the amount of time the PC version needs to be up to speed when they fuck it up. No one should have to put up with broken products they pay for. It ain't ready? Don't ship it. Ship whatever versions are ready, fix the other versions and then release them.

Maybe I should have said primary target? I mean the stuff I'm working on right now (not gaming I'm more of an infrastructure guy) compiles for Apple silicon but we have no idea how it performs because our primary target is Linux. But it does compile and pass the test suite so it would probably work. Just not well.

LMAO. What is this?

RE4 would straight up crash if you turned RT on. No stuttering. No framerate drops. Straight up crashes. Every youtuber including NX Gamer was able to replicate this. You would have to turn down textures to 1GB or below just to get RT running on 8-10 GB cards regardless of the resolution. You had a 4080 with 16GB so of course you didnt have any issues. But if you didnt want to have textures pop-in right in front of you, you had no choice but to turn off rt.

And minor stutters in hogwarts? What are you on about? The game was a mess on day one. Dropping from 100 fps to 25 fps if you entered the wrong room. It uses 25 GB of system ram with RT on. Hogsmead performance was awful and CPU limited and affected both AMD and Nvidia GPUs.

I really dont care for this rewriting of history when you can go back and watch PC reviews of all of these games. Dead Space is still broken and EA stopped patching it months ago. Just because you own a $1,200 GPU that is owned by less than 0.5% of the PC gamers, doesnt mean the game wasnt broken for 99% of the GPUs out there.

Gotham Knights, Dead Space, Hogwarts, RE4, TLOU, and now Star wars are all poorly optimized. Some games like Gotham Knights, Hogwarts and TLOU were patched after a few weeks, but Hogwarts and Gotham Knights still have a massive RT overhead. RE4 no longer crashes with RT on, but their latest patch fucked up the high res textures settings and it now crashes if I select 8 or 6GB high res textures. I have to settle for 4GB and it causes so much LOD pop-in, its infuriating. Even with RT off. This ran fine with 8GB textures before the latest patch, no pop-in. How do you explain that?

Some of these issues are vram limited, but as the latest TLOU patch has proven, a 10GB 3080 has enough horsepower to run every PS5 game at 2x the framerate and enough vram to handle PS5 quality textures and effects. These games were just poorly optimized.

Which changes nothing. You're releasing it for the platform? Get it to work properly. You can't? Delay it or don't release it at all. You're shifting the blame on the platform when it's entirely on the dev/publisher.

I fully agree.
Alot of these broken games get to "launch" state after about a month.
They should just delay the PC version by a month or two and have it be a good product.
If TLoU and Gotham Knights launched in the states they were in a month after launch they would have released to wide praise. (dunno about Gotham Knights but you get the gist)
Instead they will constantly be marred by that horrendous launch version....sure they still have some glitches, but they wouldnt meme level games.

This game atleast as far as I can tell needs another month in the oven specifically fixing the PC version.....I dunno if the day one update is going to fix what we are seeing right now.....but if its as bad as is being reported........damn.

In re4 there was no difference between 3-4 gb and 8gb texture, people just wanted to max out texture even if their system was weak, not my fault if people want to play everything on ultra even when turning down a setting has no visual quality loss amd can fix problems, i had a crash aswell when i was putting everything on ultra, i just needed to turn 1 or 2 settings down a notch to not have any problem.

In hogwarts you just needed to turn down rtx to solve most of the problem, i clearly remember you saying the same thing in the ot, the game was faaaaaaar from unplayable, same for dead space, callisto on ps5 had more stuttering than these 2 combined.

For everyone of those bad ports you named that weren't even broken for everyone, we had atomic hearts, dead island 2, forspoken and some others that runs well.

And i tell you a secret, stuttering in most of the cases is not related to how good your gpu is, if a game has shader compile stuttering, it is the same for everyone, so i experienced the same stuttering as you in most of the cases.

I think wild hearts was way more broken than re4 and ds remake tbh, that one was really unplayable on pc, no matter how strong your pc is.

It is a good year for pc gamers? No, but it's hardly this hell on earth that some of you want to promote.

I wouldn't be too sure of that.

Recently an Activision developer claimed that they stopped targeting PS5 hardware, and that the dev kit cost them $20,000 (I'm guessing this is more for license/software reasons rather than hardware).

They instead develop their games on PC with a 3090 and then down-port to the consoles. which is significantly easier and cheaper. It's likely many 3rd party studios are following this trend.

EDIT : Infinity Ward dev not Activision, apologies.

I don't disagree with you but that's not happening. At which point am I trying to say that it's not the developers fault or responsibility? I'm just saying that sometimes you ship for quality but most times it's to allow you to start recouping the cost of developing a product. The whole MVP (minimally viable product) concept exists for a really good reason even though most MVPs suck.

The ps5 version of RE4 shipped with the shittiest performance mode we have seen since horizon forbidden West. Imagine if i went into those threads to shit on PS5 gamers.

The xsx version of re4 had its image quality downgraded in the last patch, and fixed just yesterday. Who do i blame for that? Xbox gamers or the devs or coronavirus?

It will happen every time there is a poor PC port. But somehow good PC ports don't count and these same people have nothing to say.
Just look at media in general. Headlines with negative emotions attached to work better. No one (or very rarely) opens a thread "Game x has an amazing performance!". You'd see that in a general thread about the game but not as major headlines because it doesn't spark anything significant, at least not in like 90% of the people.

And in newspapers, aside from neutral and factal announcements, the ratio between good and bad news is usually favoured by the latter. This is what sells. People love to be outrageous. It's very common in first world states with high wealth.

There could also be made an argument about the rather destructive nature of humans in general but that would go to far on this topic.

But knowing that, it kind of eases the mind that everything's quite normal and the universe still works as intended.

Plus still have deadzones and 200+ms of input lag.

Doesn't seems as bad as reported:

Average fps on 1440p ultra settings in rtx 3060ti is in the 40's
Average fps on 1440p low settings in rtx 3060ti is in the 50's

While it's not bat at all at 1440p ultra settings, the difference between ultra and low in fps is abysmal.

the input lag is nonsense. I know NX gamer supposedly tested this, but he's talking out of his ass here.

the game never had any egregious amounts of input lag on console, the only issues it has are the deadzone on Xbox, and the generally suboptimal reaction curve.

I really wonder how the hell he came to the 200ms number.
200ms latency is worse than the input lag of Killzone 2 (pre patch).

its fun to watch them get humbled though, every single ported game recently has been a mess,
Since I always have the best and latest hardware I still have better performance then console 😅 bless my work lol

At least they are fixed and go on sales while console versions keep all their limitations forever.
See I don't think this is right either. There's this bizarre schism in the gaming space where it's a mentality of my platform vs the other platforms but it shouldn't be the case. Console gamers shouldn't shit on PC gamers for this botched job and PC gamers shouldn't have to retaliate. We should be on the same side and shit on the publishers for delivering a shoddy product. Our side is the one of the consumers, not PC/console or what have you.
