This is crazy how much they earn from Pc gaming, we can expect A LOT more ps exclusive games in the future

Great times ahead!

Disclamer:
this revenue is not entirely from PC sales

I have been saying it for quite sometime here this PC port cycle will get shorter and shorter until day and date, just too much money there for them to ignore.

Imagine if they would have realised this a LONG time ago when it would still have been true. Hopefully they at least consider the notion of more backports.

They will release all their exclusives on PC. You think they have been investing in porting studios, and tooling up their existing studios to do PC for no reason.

Sony will maybe have a 12 or 6 month Console exclusive window before it releases on PC. Then depending on how things go, and if Sony believe that will make more money as a whole, they might go day and date.

You would hope that their internal studios like Naughty Dog get better skilled at doing PC ports, after the inept and laughable effort they shit out last time.

If they keep releasing ports as busted as TLOU, it won't continue to make bags of money for long. Hopefully it's just a hiccup, and their other developers land their titles properly.
And that is one of their biggest ips, with one of the worse ports released on pc.

With the PC releases I'm buying gigazillion% more Sony games than previously. Ok, it's only three games so far, but it's more than zero.
Getting Returnal soon and I might get Ratchet and Clank at release if the port isn't complete dog shit.

Nintendo better be taking notes.

This definitely is due to Destiny (Bungie) because we saw the sales of the other games they released on PC.

Meanwhile in the link:

"It's impossible to say exactly how much of the jump can be attributed directly to PC game sales."
Actually I think PC sales are actually so insignificant.

“It's impossible to say exactly how much of the jump can be attributed directly to PC game sales. "Peripherals" covers a lot of ground including devices like controllers, and the PSVR2.”

This includes all peripheral sales, controller sales and even psvr2 sales.

We know how much Sony made from PC sales last year. Jimbo told investors. $80 million. So out of those $379 million, only $80 came from first party games. Roughly a quarter. This year he expected $300 million from PC sales. Again roughly a quarter of the $1.049 billion they sold with psvr2, a$550 peripheral.

I don't doubt that PC constitutes a significant portion of those revenues but the jump to over $1B is very likely driven by PSVR as well. Still, those ports cost Sony pennies on the dollar and produce enormous returns of investment. No reason not to keep chucking them out.

I refuse to believe Sony sold only about two PC games last year.

The sign of Sony's healthy PC strategy emerged from the company's FY2022 financial report, specifically under the "Others" category in the Game and Network Services Segment Supplemental Information (opens in new tab) section.

The document defines "Others" as "revenue from peripherals including PlayStationVR and revenue from sales of first-party titles on platforms other than PlayStation consoles." And the numbers over the past two fiscal years are pretty remarkable.

I've always presumed that PC gamer might not like Sony's first party game, I think my presumption were wrong.

confirm what?

Make a ton of money, or Sony will continue to release PC games.

From the numbers first months sales of GOW2 outsold all these PC games. Seems GaaS is the way to go for PC.
Cant believe you are making this statement.

The pc port are decade old games, or remake.

Do day1 and you will see crazy sales.

Yep. People should dismiss the q4 results altogether due to psvr2.

Looking at q1-q3, it’s obvious that there was a 20% increase in q1, 15% increase in q2 and a whopping 90% increase in q3. Likely driven by miles and the holiday steam sales. Though the controllers also finally went on sale this year. Bought me one for $40 so it could be that.

Its impressive but to suggest Sony is making billions from pc sales is simply inaccurate when we know Sony themselves only expected $300 million up from $80 million last year.

They will. They are corporate, and profit is above everything.
I'm not denying PS games going on PC, but they are in the business of selling consoles. A delayed release of single player games may also allow for double dips. Live service, The Show and obviously Bungie having independence to release on other platforms including PC would be expected to all be Day 1 to keep a healthy userbase.

This, we already know PS5 sales have rocketed during those periods so that accounts for that.
The .5 at the end of those numbers is probably representative of the earnings made based on the sales we know about.

I would agree with you on that one. Except that Sony management or the higher ups will want to increase their revenue.
This is due to how expensive games are these days.
When games are getting closer to 300m-400m, you will need to explore more avenue of revenue. Live service alone wont be enough, as those needs to be a hit to make those revenue.

Look at MS. Their day1 PC and gamepass is helping their console business, despite having lower console userbase.

They are in the business of making money, like every corporation. The consoles are a means to an end. At the moment, the optimal strategy is to delay PC releases but they'll eventually figure out the timing to maximize their profits.

They also haven't released games that would be surefire hits on PC for some reason. Ghost of Tsushima, Demon's Souls, and Bloodborne would be huge successes. TLOU Part I was on a roll but they utterly botched the port. It would have been an enormous success otherwise.

The PC gaming playerbase is enormous there are a few pc gamers that enjoy cinematic story games and remember good games on PC can continue selling for years so Sony is experiencing this "compounded" result.

However, if Sony makes some high quality GAAS/survival with tight gameplay and addictive gameplay loop and they bring it to PC day one they're gonna be shocked by the results.
