Can a mod please fix his name's spelling in the title. I have been misspelling the poor bastards name all these years.

It's Hermen Hulst. Not HermAn HuRst. lol

Nice pair of balls you got there.

Objectively it wasn't bad at all(apart from few too many CGIs), people just imagined Bloodbornes and whatnot in their heads to be shown and started believing that, also so called "leakers" with their "trust me bro" sources add to it. Sony never claimed or promised anything.

Had they simply hosted a State of Play rather than calling it a PlayStation Showcase, I'm convinced they would've side-stepped most of the disappointment and criticism we're seeing.

Disappointed, but it's not the end of the world. Still plenty of awesome games to play in the meantime.

That's the thing, what we got yesterday was not a Playstation Showcase.

A gaming showcase? Yes, but as a whole if that was what was shown at a game awards showcase then it would have been fitting. But barely showing anything from Playstation studios and calling it a Playstation Showcase? Nah, no bueno.

Seems kinda weird to expect any kind of announcement out of those studios when so many of them barely just shipped their latest projects.

Santa Monica? God of War barely just came out.
Sucker Punch? Barely 2 years since GoT, and they were hard at work updating and bringing it to next gen.
Bluepoint, Housemarque? They shipped one of the first PS5 exclusives 2 years ago.
Bend? Yeah, probably working as a support studio after Days Gone flopped, sorry.
Naughty Dog? Also shipped a new game about 2 years ago and then released a remake of the previous one.
Guerrilla? Are you fucking mad, bro? 2 games and a giant expansion to one of them in the last year alone.

Chill the fuck out. Making video games takes a long time, you know. Don't worry, new games will come eventually. Touch grass in the meantime.
Santa Monica - Cory started Development on his new IP FIVE years ago in April 2018.
Naughty Dog's TLOU3 or next new game- Shipped TLOU2 in May 2020. 3 Years of dev time. Only a copy pasta remake they took over from another studio.
Factions - Announced as a standalone game in September 2019 in dev for multiple years. 4 years later, only concept art has been shown.
Bend - 4 years since Days Gone. Dev completed on 1 Logo.
Sucker Punch - Shipped GoT in June 2020. Nearly 3 years later, nothing to show.
Bluepoint - Shipped Demon Souls in November 2020. 2 years and 7 months later, nothing to show. They made and shipped DS in 2 years and 8 months after shipping SOTC in Feb 2018.

People bitch about anything on Twitter, so this doesn't mean much. 99% of Playstation owners probably don't even know these showcases exist, and if they did most of them wouldn't care.

I'm yet to be convinced that this is sufficient enough time for any of those studios to be ready to ship another game, especially since most of them kept working to expand their latest games or got sidelined with other minor projects.

I like how Phil congratulating them is grouped as part of the "bad" tweets.
Anyway, people always complain but it's meaningless if you keep supporting companies with your money. I bet 90%+ of the people complaining about the Spiderman will still buy it day 1.

Nah, bruh. Sorry.

Bend is working on a new IP, was confirmed by the heads that left. They chose a new IP over DG2.

ND should have shown Factions 2. All this shit talking about how amazing it is coming along and how they totes can't wait to show us every few months has been ad nauseum. Hell, Druckmann said they were going to show something in 2023, what more perfect of a damned time, than to show it just hot of the heals of their massively successful HBO series and at a show called PLAYSTATION SHOWCASE?

Bluepoint, I would expect to at least see an announcement since they did launch with the remake and have been teasing things since then.

The rest, fair enough and agreed.

Hell, there should have at least been SH2 gameplay for a game that has been bragged about being almost done.

Now with that said, do I think COVID impacted pipelines for a lot of them, sure, and it has been said in all industries, we would feel those impacts 2 to 3 years after the lockdowns. Thus, we are. But don't call it a "PlayStation Showcase" then if you're not willing to show things, even if a hair too early.

Give your loyal hardcore something to look forward to.

Twitter is full of cunts. What’s so funny is that genuinely only care about getting a win over fans of other consoles. It’s so massively pathetic and unfunny.

It's good that Hermen got the message clear and he's fully aware that people expected much more from Playstation Studios at a showcase.
But I'm not sure this is going to change much though.
Many games are in development, teams didn't feel confident to make announcements.
So what was the solution? Calling the event a State of Play and skip a "showcase" for an other year? Force the teams to make more of the same CGI teasers that were criticized? Force the teams to show unpolished gameplay anyway while certain fans expect perfection?
If games are not ready they just have to go through it with what they got.
Hopefully there will be more chances to make further announcements this year.

I wonder if these clowns are playing any games. Maybe their lives rely on praising and hating on your favorite piece of plastic, and most important, hate on the competition. Gaming is peaking here :messenger_poop:

Showcase sucked. However the release schedule of Playstation Studio games have been consistent. PS5 gamers are literally getting hay maker after hay maker.

Horizon Forbidden West - 2022
GT7 - 2022
God of War Ragnarok - 2022
The Last of Us Remake - 2022
FF 16 (exclusive third party) - 2023
Spiderman 2 - 2023

People need to be people and not corporate sheep. No butt kissing when you don't preform. He's not a snowflake so Herman will be alright. But it's good to hold great companies to a high standard.

Yeah, behaving like Brad Smith on twitter is really mature an really 'people-ish'.
PlayStation studios has had a very stable cadence of high quality releases the last few years, the screeching isn't justified.

The worrying part is that he really thought this shitshow was good. Well not only him but sony as a whole...
PHASE 2 , MAKE A STATEMENT, TOTAL MINDSHARE.....
They obviously have no clue what they doing over there.
Yeah. They live in a bubble and are clearly delusional. Jimbo went up there saying we will let the games do the talking and ended up showing the most CG trailers since E3 2005. Completely out of touch with reality.

I'm proud how people are constructively critiquing them instead of a lot of vitriol they need to hear it and not ignore folks, instead of patting themselves on the back they should apologize that's what Shu would've done Her-Man has me looking at him sideways now

I didn't think it was bad at all?

:pie_thinking:
It was not bad from the point of view of a general games showcase. The problem is that it was supposed to be a Playstation showcase, and yet, after nearly two years, none of the major first party studios showed anything. That was absurd.

So you got hyped over random tweets from said 'insiders'?
Because all of that was 'insider' talk.

The next gen feeling is missing tho.
I agree with this sentiment from a visual stand point. I don't think that feeling will go away anytime soon. Especially with mid gen consoles being the norm. The biggest improvment we are going to see this gen is through the streamlined IO processes (load times, level design, gameplay experiences).

Take GT7 for example:
PS4, 42 seconds to load
PS5, 1.5 seconds to load

When you're retrying races or licensee /trail events, that makes a huge difference.

I wish more people would understand this, the game development of yesteryear is gone, there's no more capturing that moment and being able to run with it. It's taking longer to REMAKE Silent Hill 2 than it did to originally create it. We're not going to get Silent Hill 3/4 20 person development teams being able to churn out big games anymore, it's just not going to happen.

Plus with people's obsession with graphics the time to make character models has increased dramatically, even for something like call of duty where from the 360 to PS4, if the modeler is to be believed, the time to make an entire character model now makes a POCKET. Imagine what something like a dinosaur in Horizon takes to create much less animate!

If people want to game so badly on a Sony console it might shock them to play third party games and see how they stack up, many times equal and surpassing them in quality. Or indie games like Risk of Rain 2, which even if you take my Death Stranding gameplay time is double on that because it's just raw fun.

Or be like me and pick up cycling and just hike in the woods then pop a nice spot and read a book next to water. So wild to me to read people here hungry for games.

They all have more than one studio right? I think only BluePoint have one studio.

Seeing the service games they've greenlit and that they thought it was acceptable or appropriate to reveal such games with CGI confirms to me that practically all of their service games will fail miserably. Given that this seems to be Hulst's gimmick initiative, hopefully it means he's removed from PlayStation before the end of the gen. No second chances with this shit.

Hell if I know. But regardless, they will put out something new eventually. Maybe it'll take a bit longer but it's inevitable. Don't know why people in those tweets flip out so hard especially when you consider what I said in my last post, plus the fact that Sony has had a fairly consistent release schedule so far this generation.

That is the issue I think most had with it. They showed a lot of third party games I will be hopefully enjoying when they come out, but not even so much as Factions 2 from a legacy studio. Getting tired of Druckmann's pretentious ass tweets now, especially after being AWOL.

It is now time to put up or shut up, Druckmann/Naughty Dog. Especially after the dick swinging of the HBO show success.
