There padding after the 4th mother crystal wasn't so bad. Definitely less polish than the main stuff. But it's cool to see some enemies get a difficulty buff now.

That scene at sea with water being cut in half. I was blown away by how good the water looked. Literally just looked like CG.

I wonder how they did it. The effects on this game look real good in general. Fire, water, clouds, particles, etc.
The water is CG LMFAO

The shit you're going through after the fight with Titan (which was terrible - the whole Eikon part of it) is one of the worst parts of the game, as well as everything else leading up to the Bahamut (not the actual story stuff which is amazing). It's SO BORING and there's like fetch quest after fetch quest after fetch quest after fetch quest after fetch quest with boring conversations, terrible world building and NPCs I could not care less about.

And then the actual story stuff begins with amazing character work, great acting, dialogues full of emotions etc. the mission itsef is great and everything around it and then a milliont time you ask a question - WHY IN THE FUCKIN' FUCK the whole game is not like this? And then again everything goes donw to fetch quests and boring dialogues with NPC you don't like or care about...

I swear, I don't remember a game and C/J/RPG in which I skiped through dialogues at such a lightning fast speed... and that's all because literally all NPCs in this game are tirrible, boring and not interesting in any way and so that leaves only Jill and the actual story characters - Dion alone is miles better than all NPCs in this game combined.
Ugh sucks to hear that. I just got to that point last night. Go talk to 3 people around the hideout for 3 slow, boring conversations where Clive tells them about what just happened in his monotone “just crawled out of bed” voice.

Ok now go back and talk to Otto and find out what to do next. Ok now go talk to the grey haired lady. Ok now go talk to another character who gives you a list of shit to go find.

I gave up there after about 30 minutes of boredom.

When this game is good it’s really, really good. The other 80% of the time it’s one of the most boring and pointless RPGs I’ve ever experienced. Like the only reason this stuff exists is because they were obligated to have more content outside the linear action levels.

I’m just suffering through it to get to the next good part. I’m really struggling to find the will to continue playing.

That's exactly what I'm talking about in my last post on the previous page. They ruined amazing game with all this outdated, boring af, throwaway and brainless combat, extremely mediocre, very low budget content and character interactions etc. etc., which should't even be in this game, but it's there to please everyone and again - ruin otherwise amazing game.

You can clearly see in literally all story and very high budget content like cut-scenes, pre-rendered in-engine set pieces, much better designed story missions (even though pretty straightforward), well better acted and animated conversations and character interactions that they know how to do it, how to make things the way they suppose to look like, function, staged, acted etc. It's so, so jarring to see all this and then suffer through everything else in the game which is clear as day not even remotely on the same level of quality and I don't believe that they didn't knew and see that.

There's still a chance for them to save this game, but it could take at least 2 years of very hard work and complete gameplay / combat overhaul etc. Will they do that? I'm not sure, but the fact that they must is not a question at all cuz they'll be making PC version and will have a chance to do things right. Cutting stuff from the game (which is clearly needed - pretty much all side-quests) is much easier than to make it, but when it comes to combat and overal gameplay, leveling and RPG experience... that's what they should focus on and overhaul while also using what works, build on it and improve as much as possible.

Haters about to lost their shit over that video. If they don’t enjoy FF16 then no one can.

They want to change the game to an old school drama like FF7 or below. Fanboys gotta dick measure in popularity of their favorite game because any other dick measuring contest they’d lose. Cheesy characters, skinny protagonist, linear missions, turn based gameplay, elemental plz. They cannot think beyond that, anything better is worst to them.

I really love the Judgement Bolt. Just picked up the Breath of Lightning, so I can use it more now. Only 2000 more ability points for mastery. Right now it's 2-stage, looking forward to seeing the mastered version. *edit*Just respec'd a bunch of points now it's mastered.

P.S.- Nobody says "Joshua" as good as Clive. He really means it.

P.P.S.- If it was me, I would have just cleaved Annabelle and her little bastard in half without hesitation.

The side quests toward the end are actually quite good. But holy fuck there are so many of them. I thought I’d be able to finish up tonight, but I didn’t even get past the point of no return. I still have a few side quests and hunts to clean up.

The torgal quest was so good. I’m really glad they were able to put together some real cutscenes for stuff like that.

The game has so much heart and character. I just wish they would’ve cut out the needless filler.

Yup, there was just a slow build with certain characters and sublots and the pay off at the end is quite good.

I don’t normally comment more than once or twice about the same game but this would be the exception. It is the worst game I’ve played in a long time and I’m not a very picky gamer. I bought it day one for my love to other FFs but this is something else.

It is the game with the least deserved metacritic score ever, in my opinion. The only thing which is over 90 are the graphics, a masterpiece. Take the visual marvel away and the game is a high-60s at most.

Gameplay is absurd (I know that FFs are story-heavy) but the amount of uneeded pauses are disgusting. Video, walk 10 meters, video continuation. Really? Was the switch needed? It looks like a game made by an indie developer.

FFX and XII are amongst my favorite games ever. I like FFXIII more and more every time I play it and I even enjoyed FFXV (with its hundreds of flaws) but this FFVXI is not even enjoyable, sorry.

Then we have the stupid amount of screen messages and interruptions. You kill some specific enemies, summary screen. This only makes sense in a turn-based combat game but please, in a game with this combat style, give me flawless transitions. It feels like a puzzle of different games but together without any reason.

Hogwarts Legacy has a similar score and it does everything (except for graphics) better than FFXVI…

I really want to know how the hell this game got the reviews it did, because I am absolutely convinced that I must be playing a completely different game. I'm actually in shock that people can not either see the glaring faults....or...I don't even know. This is drastically bad in places...Like this game is Square last remnant levels of quality with just a fancier sheen on top.

A decent game, some could say...with interesting bits...but nothing special and no where near the metacritic rating it has. IMO.

I beg everyone to play Xenoblade 3 instead.....better in every single way.

Well the director of this game is the director of The Last Remnant, which is a game I hated. So no surprise there. There’s MMO + The Last Remnant stink all over this game

Is this true? I never knew he directed Last Remnant! That is wild if true because when playing yesterday It just clicked...this is Last Remnant Square with a bigger budget and more polish.

Well, every skill is mastered now. It took less grinding than I thought, maybe like 20 minutes in a spot where you get 1120 AP every 1-2 minutes.

I did everything in my first playthrough though, so that took care of most of the AP.
Just have to beat the final boss and the Platinum is mine.

7-8/10 game.

FF16 is a 8-9/10. As a fan of both FF and DMC, it feels like the fusion that I'd dreamed of.
and it's the first FF game since X to feel like its living up to its final fantasy name. It's boss sections are truly top of it's class.

I'm very close to the end now,
I hope post-release support is coming. Seeing how FF15 was improved over time, I'd love to see 16 get even better.

Considering it's made by the MMO team, it's possible.

How about, I don't know, go play something else (or write somewhere else) and let us enjoy the game? I couldn't find that much enjoyment in Elden Ring, but I'm happy that for some people it's the best game they've ever played and that they cherish it. It would never even cross my mind to go into those threads and tell people they should stop enjoying the game and that it's utter garbage or something like that. At most, I would try to explain as politely as possible why it didn't click with me, and be done with it. If you're just trying to piss people off, good work! I get it, you don't like the game. It's alright, everyone has their opinion, but please, for heaven's sake, stop trying to force your opinion down everyone else's throats.

For those who have finished the game. How long did it take and did you watch all the NPC interactions or skip through them?

Just curious cause I've read various comments on YT saying the game is only 50 hours long and that just seems crazy to me. I've skipped through plenty of interactions but have sat through probably 80% of them. At the rate I'm playing, I fully expect 80 hours minimum. I have 50 hours in now and am only halfway with side mission points and en route to the Bahamat fight.

Like I said, just curious.

I was around 55-60 taking my time, watched all cutscenes and interactions, did all side quests and hunts.

Man, I have no idea what I'm doing that is causing the game to seemingly take twice as long? Lol. Thanks for replying though, I guess it really is 50-60 for most people.
I think for me it was around the same. Are you grinding a lot perhaps? At some point mid-game I was outleveling regular field mobs and I just skipped past them when going to new places. There was little point in fighting them (since they barely give experience compared to the quests, anyways).

First playthrough including watching everything, doing everything, looking at the scenery etc the PS5 Homescreen said 65 hours, but I don't know if the PS5 counts the time when pausing the game and doing something else as well.
I read some others said 65 hours as well. That should be the sweet spot I guess.

Yeah I wonder this too, if maybe some time was padded in by doing other things/afk. I wish it had an in game timer like every other FF.

Nah, not grinding at all really. I do thoroughly explore the open environments whenever a new one opens up but it's not like that takes hours each time. I am doing everything I possibly can in terms of side quests and hunts so maybe I'm actually further along than I think I am? Not even actively playing it now but I'll get back to it at some point.

I'm level 37/38 and at the Isles of Ark, right after the miniboss fight when you can buy items from Goetz (roughly 50 hours total playtime)

Right, then you are indeed further ahead than you think, yeah. Pretty much two thirds in. I'd say you should end up at around the 65 hours playtime or so.

People are also allowed to point out that you aren't contributing anything particularly interesting (or thoughtful) to the discussion. Your dislike for the game is already crystal clear. But some of us would like to focus on, you know, the game we LIKE.

Seriously though, some people just have too much time on their hands.. These handful of them are literally crapping every FF16 thread possible with their toxicity. Feeding nonsense by quoting everyone and telling not to buy and play. Just because the game doesn't have something they want. The reviews and users have spoken loud and clear but these handful ignorants are nitpicking any negative point they get and exaggerate it like there's no tomorrow. Trolls they are!

The game doesn't have what I like, it's bad and I should make everyone feel the same.

I feel like if there's DLC, Leviathan is pretty much assured.
That's my hope as well, and I wouldn't mind either seeing something about
What happens with Jill, Gav and the others and how they carry on with their lives, even if it's just a passing mention, because it does feel like they do want to keep the fate of Joshua and Clive somewhat open and up for interpretation.

I wouldn't mind also if they let us
enter the closed ruins next to Phoenix Gate and others that may be around the world. Maybe even make them the home of a few superbosses, since there isn't any in the game right now and it feels kinda odd

“With 38 million PS5 consoles shipped globally (as of March 31, 2023), sales of Final Fantasy 16 surpassed three million units worldwide several days after its release on June 22, 2023,” Square Enix said.

“Taking into consideration the sales figures of the acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the difference in size of the install base of the PlayStation 4 at the time of this title’s release, we can see that the attach rate of Final Fantasy 16 is considerably high, given the PS5 install base.

“Square Enix considers the initial sales results of Final Fantasy 16 to be extremely strong, and we will continue to carry out a wide range of initiatives to encourage even more people to play the game.”

Lovely stuff. I'm ready for more. DLC, expansion, sequel. Gimme gimme gimme.

Majority are asking for Cidolfus Telamon DLC, I'm 65% in game (still can't believe how awesome Drake's Fang fight was) and I can state 10+ DLC ideas.

Where are you getting that it's the majority? An inconsequential DLC where you play as a side character doesn't seem like something that's Priority #1 on people's minds. Not to mention you're looking at one Eikon set for this character. Leviathan DLC would allow for a new Eikon fight, new Eikon abilities, and potentially a new zone to explore. Not to mention potentially changing the ending given what we know.

A huge number of players have liked Cid's character and would like to know him better. I'm not talking about the endgame material since I haven't completed the game yet. They could do an interconnected DLC or completely new. It's just a fan's wish that's what I'm saying.

Thirteen flew over the cuckoo's nest
They have to go XIV routes and start to release patch updates up till a proper expansion, that'll be so cool

I like Cid a lot too, I just don't see a DLC dedicated to him. FFXVI's combat is built around the Eikon abilities. Switching between them, doing different combos, and going for the highest damage possible during Stagger phases. Playing as a character who only has Ramuh's abilities for an entire DLC doesn't seem like it would fit that mold. If we're talking DLC potential, Leviathan the Lost brings the most to the table. Also I do feel like there are ways to bring us more Cid without us having to play as him.

Maybe one or two boss fight as prime Ramuh but you're right. Playing with new character with new Eikon, powers and extended world story would be much better.
Atleast we can get some of the backstory of Cid and past life of Clive and Jill after phoenix gate. Devs could make a proper series out of this amazing world of Valisthea.
