How to explain that buying all the biggest multiplatform publishers and then talking about buying your biggest competitor on PC distribution and the second biggest gaming company (console market) in the world is NOT comparable Square partnering with Sony to get 1 title on Sony machines first… and you not seeing a problem with that kind of strategy by MS… it sounds disingenuous / carrying water for the big US corpo at best. I am from France and here nobody gives a fuck about MS. Xbox barely exists. When you say you play on Xbox nobody asks "what do you play?" but "why ? you didn't find a PS5?".
Just I am saying that Sony is using their ressources and MS is using theirs, just MS has way more ressources than Sony. I am not trying to "defend" them and I wouldn't like MS to acquire Nintendo, seeing how they managed their studios before, but I can understand why they want that.
And also people saying "MS don't know how to manager their own company", well, huuuh, they're part of the GAFAM aren't they ? They must be doing alright.

If there was anything equally both awesome and terrible it would be this. We would finally get Nintendo games on the latest tech/PC. Mario Kart 4k/120 anyone. However, let's be honest, Microsoft would become almost a monopoly at that point and would likely run Nintendo into the ground eventually.

Sony are no angels but their ability to monopolise the industry through acquisitions is pretty limited imo. Microsoft have that ability and it could be very detrimental to the gaming industry.
Just imagine a hypothetical future in 10-15 years where MS purchases Nintendo and then makes their games only available via Gamepass. Then they increase the price of Gamepass sky high. Or they mismanage Nintendo and run them into the ground. Or they force Nintendo to lower their standards and work them like a pack mule to get more and more but lower quality "content" on Gamepass.
Microsoft presents a facade to the public that they're just this unassuming, progressive, egalitarian, gentle and friendly company that wants us all to have gaming fun with our friends. But in reality they're a cutthroat monster of a company that wants to consume, dominate and control the entire industry which will result in them and their shareholders benefitting at the major expense of consumers.

I don't say we should be ok with it, I am not ok with it, I am against the acquisition of ABK by MS from the beginning because yes I think this is too big and it can break the "sane" competition. I am just saying I understand why they're trying to do it.
And anyways Nintendo laughed at MS back at the N64 era, when MS wanted to acquire them, so imagine now with the success of the Switch...

Once again, I am against all of this, against the ABK acquisition and I was the first to say that ES6 would be exclusive to Xbox, even though they said "but we will let the popular and beloved franchises multiplat", and it is happening.
I am just saying I understand why they're trying, and that yes Sony aren't saints either, but at a different scale obviously. Give the MS wallet to Jim Ryan and I dunno if it would be better...
I am for the acquisition of studios though, MS acquiring SEGA, Sony acquiring SE wouldn't surprise / bother me.

That's assuming MS would even be competent enough to release them as GaaS's. Mario and Zelda would probably be put away with all of the other IPs that MS owns, but can't manage to turn into actual playable videogames.

Sony could have more or less bought the whole industry up in the 90s when it came as a billion dollar conglomerate and devs and pubs were cheaper than a nice house
But they didn't. There was a fundamental belief in strengthening third parties from Sony that strengthened the whole industry

People talk about Square but they didn’t buy Square when it was easy, invested in them, sold the shares back, and despite all speculation there has been no hint from Sony that they will and MS just did hand shake party with a co joint announcement of FFXIV.
Read a lot about Sony fucking around and finding out with the CMA and FTC, EC charade, and what do we got? A river of nasty sewage water from the MS camp.
