i think you got Topher all wrong though lol
How so? I mean sure He’s trying to say He also plays on console, but clearly he wishes He did not need to, and I understand it. In 2022, I really wanted TLOU part 1 to release on PC ASAP.

Good riddance you disgusting suit!

Bring someone who doesn't just care about live service and the bottom line.
I would LOVE hermen hulst for the job!
Dunno what makes you think he would do things different…. Besides….. he did a great job! Can’t knock him!

I hope he goes on to enjoy his retirement. I’m not into knocking hard working people. Maybe you are though.

It’s not the forum’s faults sure, this is on SIE leadership. And I’m neither blaming the forum nor PC fans (they want their platform to enjoy the most benefits, I have no problem with that). I just do not like the way they talk against PS fans, it reeks of hypocrisy.

I could imagine what Jim was making at PS simply because at one time I knew what Phil Spencer and Ybarra made while at Xbox and it would be easier to retire in his 50s

Good for him if this wasn’t forced and enjoy life and congrats on being able to retire early yourself

Have been retired myself for 23 years now

Really wonderful to achieve financial freedom at such a young age. I assume you retired in your early 30s and you're in your mid 50s now?

For myself, I wish to achieve financial freedom and retire but at the same time, i REALLY REALLY love my job as a piano teacher and film/musical theatre actor so I don't know if I'll ever retire. lol. And I'd have to say I'm really good at what I do too. Never regret leaving my job as a stock broker and take the plunge into the performance arts industry.

Something is off with the games, though.

They're amazing on a technical level, but they lack depth and energy.

Every Sony has the same vibe lately and that vibe is not positive:

- The highbrow storytelling gets old pretty fast
- It requires high level of mental investment due to complex story structures
- The gameplay mechanics are superficial, easy to learn and easy to master
- Everything is slow-paced with too much focus on cutscenes
- Replayability is often zero
- Everything is so goddamn serious

Exception: Insomniac. They're amazing.

I wish Sony would get more crazy. Like Ready Player One crazy.
Astrobot Playground, GT7, Returnal, Demon Souls: Remake, etc… and Insomniac games as
you mentioned.
I think you have been way way way overly negative. Even GoW does not fit your premise… but 🤷‍♂️.

Did he actually do anything or have the time to do anything? All the games that have come out so far will have been Green lit before him right?

I'm still in the camp that he inherited an amazingly well performing playstation that was firing on all cylinders. Their communication since he has taken over has been absolutely terrible. They don't attend any shows. Their showcases have been bab. What is coming from Sony in 2024?

They've been coasting under him, so they need someone fresh, who is hungry to replace him.

I wonder if we are about to hit a playstation drought or something. Its felt far too quiet.

Honestly, the only reason Sony seems so extremely quiet, is because Spencer keeps talking and talking to keep Xbox somewhat relevant.

I think he might’ve overpromised on that one by telling everyone at Sony that Xbox will be out of business by now…
And by the traditional metrics he's basically ran them out of town. Xbox has had to go crying to daddy for tens of billions and completely upheave their business model just to even gave a hint of parity of revenue with PlayStation.

Do you think Xbox would be still in the game if it weren't for the tens of billions and gamepass?

Man? Woman?! What are these words you are using!!??

It'll be 'they/them/nonbinary'

:messenger_grinning_sweat:
Surely you meant Xhey and Xhem? And you clearly just made a mistake. Otherwise you might have to get cancelled you disgustang human being.

Did he though? Pretty sure MS been shooting them selves in the foot these last ten years. Or are we gonna pretend that’s not the case……
Both things can be true. PlayStation is bigger than it ever has been, they've invested in non-traditional areas, are building out the brand into entertainment, are making more games than ever etc

All while Microsoft shot themselves in the foot. It was entirely possible for them both to fuck up. One didn't

Nice deflect but wrong and you know it.

Communication has been terrible all gen.
No, I just disagree.

And seriously, if they would talk more, people would be whining about him needing to shut up because they still have to wait so long before games release.

Meanwhile, they're doing great, PS5 is selling like hotcakes, games perform well and there is little competition.
They don't have to talk at every opportunity to remind people they still exist.

Considering they have an interim ceo coming in, it seems like this took Sony by surprise. You don't get rid of your big cheese unless you've got a plan going forward, maybe he just went all nutter butters in the last few days and was turning up to the office in no clothes and pissing on the walls.

That it's exactly 30 years I imagine he always planned to be done by that point and I don't blame him, he's still got a good 10 years easily in the corporate world and having CEO of SIE while they are smashing sales, even post pandemic kind of writes the blank check for itself.

While as CEO I don't think he was able to implement a whole lot and he mostly said dumb shit, he was pretty instrumental previously in creating Sonys Dominance in Europe throughout the years and that's no small feat whatsoever.

Good luck to ol Jimmy Boy and I'm curious to see who takes the mantal. Maybe bring back ol Andrew house

Just bring someone in who doesn't hate games like Jim did...

To this day I don't understand how most of the PS4 crew got either booted or window-tribed (Shu), despite PS4 being so successful with its "just a good oldschool console" image.

Ryan did good at his job but I'm ready for far more communicative leadership that lets us know about the pipeline. Brings back PSX or E3 stage shows

People still whining about GaaS…
Anyway, Jim made the PlayStation 5 an astounding success and he contributed for 28 years to make the PlayStation brand what it is today. He deserves to enjoy is retirement. All the best to him.
When 2-3 of those GaaS become hit -- and a 20% to 30% success rate is highly likely with PlayStation's current strategy -- people will remember Jim Ryan fondly.

It'll help them rely less on third-party for high-revenue items, and that will be extremely important for PlayStation.
