Starfield has 'Mixed' reviews on Steam (Up: 'Recent' reviews are Mostly Negative)

You know whats wild about it. Don't play ignorant, man. Its unbecoming.

Of course the game wont strike a chord with some but Bethesda is a highly respected developer and has been for decades. Now suddenly, when their exclusive to Xbox, their brand new IP (lets not forget the lessons they've learned and applied on this particular IP from their past games...) this most recent release is suddenly the worst game they've released???

Ironic, no?
Dumb And Dumber GIF

According to Steam users' negative review percentage, yes, Starfield is the worst (or least-liked) game they have ever released:
  1. Starfield (-29.51%)
  2. Fallout 76 (-27.51%)
  3. Fallout 3 (-20.69%)
  4. Fallout 4 (-17.40%)
  5. ESV: Skyrim (-5.1%)
  6. Morrowind (-4.64%)
  7. Oblivion (-4.39%)
And Steam is the best barometer for this because Bethesda games are most played by PC players anyway.

P.S. And you can see their games getting worse and worse with time. Skyrim >> Fallout 4 >> Fallout 76 >> Starfield. There is a clear pattern and trajectory that you're ignoring.

Bullshit. You think gamers on Steam give a shit that this game is an Xbox console exclusive? Just stop it man. TLOU still hasn't recovered fully from the thrashing it received from its pisspoor Steam release. Somehow this is more Xbox persecution? If we are going to talk about what is unbecoming then let's start there.

There are literal tweets of gamers going on steam, buying the game, getting a refund and review bombing broski. You literally have to ignore every tweet and podcast speaking on the issue for the last 4-5 weeks since its release. Its pitiful, tbh.

Because I call out facts to prove my point, isn't some "Xbox persecution?" Are you even serious right now??? Lol.

Nevermind. We good bruh...

The only fact you provided about the game was that it was console exclusive to Xbox. Pointing to that, and only that, as the reason for the low review scores is the definition of Xbox persecution.

If we want to talk about facts then we can remove all but the refund eligible reviews using Steam's filters. There are approx. 5.4k reviews in Steam who played the game less than two hours. Of those, only 2.9k are actually eligilble for review as they were bought on Steam and not from a third party. Of those, 2.1k are negative reviews. That's a whopping 2% of the total number of reviews and not all of those even refunded the game. So much for your review bomb theory my man.

Bottom line is Bethesda needs to more to fix this game on PC. Does this really look like review bombing to you?

Those are facts. Stay out of twitter and you'll be better off.

Let's stick to the original argument instead of moving goalposts.

The original argument was the quality of their games, not the sales figures (of which we also know nothing about Starfield's).

Do you agree that Starfield is the least liked / worst game Bethesda ever released, as thousands of paying customers on Steam also think so?

something tells me the attempt to have a reasonable exchange will not work in this case :messenger_confused:

Reviewers can give starfield score of1 but it will be sold in millions in 5/10 years.......because Bethesda funs don't care about some jerk reviewing game after 10 hours or less of playtime.
Starfield is not perfect game but will be in next 2 years of updates, like every other Bethesda game & people will have fun with it. Only that meters.

I'm still enjoying it. But I also enjoyed Cyberpunk at launch. I guess my standards are low. I also guess my positive review was not enough. I feel like it is just bandwagon review bombing. The issue with Steam is, you can only give a thumbs up or down, and in so many cases games are more of a meh.
IDD, always expect worst & you will guarantee have fun if game prove other way.

If it were a "bandwagon" then by now the ratio negative reviews would have slowed pace. Instead they are accelerating.

I wish Bethesda said the same to Obsidian when they made New Vegas.

you can filter Steam reviews
here you can see only reviews made by people who played above 4 hours (can't ask for refund)
Its 74% positive

Enjoyed the game, but at the end, i started to rush just to be done with it.

Starfield is not a bad game at all, but in a lot of ways, it does things worse than previous games.

The writing was ok, tho actually, the more i progressed, the less engaged i was with the plot.

The shooting was improved, but the exploration got worse. Walking for minutes to reach a reused cave was not fun at all. Trying to find a planet in the star map was god awful. The jetpack is so bad, it wouldnt make any real change if it didnt exist.

The graphics are nice, but very inconsistent, doesnt help that characters still move and look like early last gen.

The loadings.... I have the game installed on my ssd, and the loadings are shot, sure, but there's so many of them. Enter ship - loading - take off - loading - warp to another starsystem - loading - select landing zone - loading - get out of ship - loading. i'm amazed we don't have a loading screen for the menu.

I'd say that a 7/10 is a good rating for the game. It's a good game, but feels very dated. doesn't help that it came out close to Cyberpunk patch and expansion, and that game did everything better imo. I wish bethesda would also make improvments like that with future patches/expansions, but we know how they work. Even when releasing skyrim for the 100th time, they never fixed bugs that the community had to fix since release.

Thats free app, i know coz i played solid 50h of it, and compared to starfield, even tho its simple, got 2d unimpressive(but cute) graphics, it has so much more fun in it :)
Can't make a judgement on Shelter vs Starfield but I too put a little too many hours into Shelter. It's one of the very few mobile games that managed to grab me

Cyberpunk was hyped, mate, but not to the degree of Starfield and certainly was never called the GOTG (if that's not true, pull up the receipts). Otherwise, it received less hype than Starfield.

As for the rest of the crap you posted — irrelevant. I made a comparison and it has shit else to do with some victim complex you're on.
Sorry, didn't respond to this until now as it skipped over me.

Cyberpunk was 100% hyped beyond belief. It was CD Projekts swan song from Witcher 3, it was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread. Claiming that wasn't the case is forgetting everything in those lead up years. I mean, fucking Keanu Reeves came on stage to announce it and the crowd went mental.

Who cares how many years you've spent on something? It only means that you have 34 years of experience in having bad opinions.
This is what I call projection.

Youre way too generous. If this werent a bethesda games people wouldnt be making all these excuses though. They would call it what it is, a 6 out of 10 game at best.
It does nothing well.
To think that we still have to watch npcs disappear out of thin air when they enter doors in 2023, in a gen where consoles have ssd and are how many times more powerful that an xbox360? It is fucking mental. And it ks not like it runs that much better on pc.

This is yet another abysmal xbox game. Now I see why they bought bethesda, because they clearly are another finished developer.

I'm just saying. Just because you've spent a long time doing something doesn't give you the right to insult others for their opinion or make yours more valid. It doesn't make you an authority either. You can spend 50 years doing carpentry but if you're just bad at it and never progressed your skills, that will still make you a shitty carpenter.

Weren't you the one criticizing his opinion on the game? Sounds like you're the one saying your opinion is right and his is wrong.
Basically you're gaslighting the other poster either on purpose or accidentally.

Excellent points. I generally agree although I still rate it around an 8. I had several complaints in the beginning but I was having such a good time playing the game that I was ok just brushing them aside for the most part. Ultimately my biggest complaint was the shitty main quest story. It really sucked. I should have known though. Vast majority of stories that claim to be seeking some higher meaning typically fall ridiculously flat in the end. Thankfully I enjoyed the side and factions quests well enough to make up for it. I feel sorry for those who rushed through to get to NG+ like was encouraged. I'm planning on jumping back in when Bethesda gets DLSS and a got dang map put in the game but when I do I'm loading up a pre NG+ save.

If this is true then there should literally be hundreds of reviews with “product refunded” and no playtime.

I call bullshit. PC gamers don’t bother with silly console war nonsense. Unless you think these are people with no gaming PC, creating a Steam account so they can go through the hassle of buying the game and refunding for the sole purpose of bringing an average down?
Even if that’s the case, it can be proven by looking at the account. So unless there’s receipts to back this up, Tweets are just hot air.

Even at 69 though, Bethesda truly may believe this was a success, which it is.

If people could still excuse Fallout 76 and stick with it, given enough time (2-4 years!) Starfield would become a different game. 7/10 game, but SPACE! so I can't stop playing it, and shooting & looting is fun.

1. He quoted me first.
2. He was the one to throw an insult, not me.

Check your facts before you start shilling for other users.

And speaking of gaslighting, I know you're just trying to raise some stink with this because of that conversation that we had the other day, and now you have an axe to grind. Cut it out.

Whats truly wild about it, is if this game released on "another platform" the narrative would be WHOLLY, ETERNALLY, MAGNIFICENTLY, MAJESTICALLY, FANTASTICALLY, INCREDIBLY different.

Truth of it; Bethesda games are Xbox games now, Nothing anyone or anything can do about it. Folks need to just let it be. It is what it is. Just my opinion....

Well you can blame your ucle Phil for this outcome. Game needed at least 1 year extra in the oven, i would say 2 years due it’s size and scope. But no no your uncle had to force Bethesda to release it in it’s state becaue their pipeline was dry as the Nevada desert.

PC steam reviews has nothing to do with PlayStation like you’re trying your hardest hint at. Victim card mentality is pathetic and out right embarrassing. It won’t work around here. Would def work on REEE tho.
