Metal Gear Solid Master Collection |OT| Les Ports Terribles

God damn, that MGS1 port is something that I just cannot get over. It's absolutely worthless with that shitty frame rate and sluggish controls. Leave it to Konami to fuck up something that fans did way better for free in their spare time years ago.

Anyone who expects the remake of MGS3 or any of the upcoming Silent Hill games to be any good, you better adjust your expectations because it's all gonna be terrible.

Am I the only one excited to play some classic?
You're not. I'm happy to replay one of my favourite games of all time. But Konami just can't do anything right these days.

I was all for this compilation.. I don’t even care about higher resolutions as I love the look the original resolutions provide.

But bilinear filtering the whole upscale image with no way to turn it off is the biggest offense anyone could do to a an old retro game. This is second time an office release of MGS did it. The first was the PlayStation mini. How can anyone think that looks good?
Yup. But I’ll say that the upscaling in PCSX2 looks phenomenal because it’s not upscaling the image but the actual render resolution.

MGS1 should get nothing but a CRT filter though

"seems cutscene borders are broken"

And this is likely why the resolution couldn't simply be increased. 4chan sleuths can pat themselves on the back thinking they're smarter than the devs because they hex edited the executable, but if it's breaking cutscene borders then that's pretty much a death knell for these games which are so cutscene heavy. A simple 'fix' can turn into a monumental (if not impossible) task to fix the issues it causes. See various other mods released over the years that were resigned to the trash heap because of unintended consequences - like L.A. Noire's 60fps mod, which did boost the framerate, but also destroyed the driving physics. The part about rain being pixelated means it's also likely going to affect the scaling of the post effects (even moreso than they're already affected, as some are still not fully fixed from the HD Collection).

Patching in / modding in FSR2 could be a solution to get it close to 4K image quality without breaking the game. Some developers like the ones who handled the Red Dead remaster have used FSR2 to boost the native image quality. But at the end of the day hoes will eternally be mad even if FSR2 is used as well...

Remember: you have no choice but to buy this. Yes, they stole eternal bliss from you, but you have to buy it, you you may as well be a stoic about it. Just think, you only have to suffer for a few hours before you can go back to not playing these games like you have for the past 20 years while wishing for the next big thing to come out so you can play, complain and ignore and then beg again and again a cycle until you die.

I'm buying it but I also feel disgusted by what they are doing.

They could have done the games a good service and still make money but they went the easy route. It's disrespectful for the fans.

I'll take it, though and they know it, that's why they did it this way.

Still shitty.

Caved and picked this up. MGS FO LIFE

But why.. OH WHY do these download as separate apps, and not in one contained Master Collection app? Ugh.. sends my OCD through the roof.

Is it really so bad you are better off with the original ISO in retroarch on a modded Switch? Because I might actually do that for 1 and just use the collection for 2 and 3. lol

Am I the only one excited to play some classic?

Bro Im gonna be playin this nonstop for like the next 2 months lol

PS5 North America version so I dont gotta worry bout no 30fps, no 50hz, no digital-only games, none of dat shit lol

How do these games play without ps2's pressure sensitive buttons? I remember hearing it was a problem last time around with the 360 version but I never played it.

Also remember hearing the 60 fps version of GTAIV was almost unfinishable because you couldn't mash the button fast enough. Does this play a factor is MGS1's torture scene?

Wait the USA version is better then EU? I actually bought the American version but I'm playing on my EU account.

Yep cuz Pal version is capped at 50hz. The good news is EU players should have access to both NA and JP versions (whether thats on their disc or a separate download for them I have no idea, probably depends on platform and game).

What the hell is this? in all the years and different times I've played MGS1, Sasaki always had a blurred out nude butt, never seen shorts before.
I assume it got "Enhanced" for modern audiences cuz modern audiences cannot take nudity. Don't give these people a mirror in the bathroom they might have a heart attack.

Also....that thread title...Goddamn,literal perfection.

But I thought MGS1 in this collection was 30fps even on ps5? Wasn't there controversy about that...

Anyway I've only ever played the PAL version but I bought this on my USA account so will actually be a slight upgrade over what I'm used to if true!

They're all never nudes.

Does anyone else keep misreading this game title as:
Metal Gear Solid The Master Chief Collection?

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.

IT'S THE FUCKING PAL VERSION ON PS5 EU COPIES!!!!!!!

That's just the language, there literally zero difference but some spellings of some words.
That's why it's not included on the Disc

Fps & Hz are two different things
Game is is still 30fps, but refreshes at 50hz or 60hz
You'll notice a a slight speed difference.
But the bigger question is what happens when you play a 50hz game on 60hz display?
Which nearly all TV's are now so playing a 50hz game on 60hz TV will introduce more then just a slightly slower game.

Is this confirmed? That would suck if true. There was a significant difference to me playing 50hz and 60hz titles. They would feel really unresponsive at times. It was one of the benefits of having a 'chipped' PS1 back in the day.

There will be inevitable framepacing issues like we saw with PS1 classics from Sony on PS4/PS5. PS3 supports 50 Hz output but newer consoles don't.

The fun fact is that all newest TVs still play 50 Hz content perfectly fine, doesn't matter if they're bought in EU or US or anywhere else. The only problem is the console not supporting this refresh rate.

You can download NTSC version as DLC. The only problem is that it's not included on disc so it slightly sucks if you're a collector.

Can't wait to see how badly they mangle MGS4 and it's ass backwards PS3 cell processor code on other platforms.

Am I the ONLY one on this site who thinks that this was a flawed, but solid attempt?
EDIT: This is not a scam, it's a port optimised for consoles, with PC getting the shortest stick.
The amount of manufactured rage here over some decent ports is a little ridiculous. It feels comparable in quality to the DMC remastered trilogy to me.

Issues with the PC and Switch ports aside, the XSX and PS5 versions don’t seem nearly as bad as people want them to be. I’m enjoying the collection so far.

Where are they hiding the Meryl codes number?

I attempted to find it within the game itself, but I cannot find any hint at in the online manual (which is really cool, btw). So I ended up just googling it.

There's gotta be some clever place it's hidden, right?

Nope I watched a couple of streams and gameplay of some of them and they seem fine

Playing Metal Gear now, not touched the MSX games much before, Christ they are hard and cryptic

Just a thought, would vrr technically help with that?

Yeah, it was made with consoles in mind, especially those two. But hey! The PC port definitely has potential to become Mod fodder a la Sonic Colours Ultimate!
