Playstation Portal reviews

I've been through several reviews and not one has been as negative as this thread has been.

I just want to know how it handles logins for multiple profiles. I share my ps5 with my kids and we all have our own profiles. To switch to a different profile on this device, do I have to log out/ log in each time or can I log in with each one and just select which profile I want to remote with?

Just get a separate portal for each account. Arent you a real gamer?

They both should be on a Wifi 5+ 100% bandwidth free for them if they want to make a valid review. What other significant conditions may have between them?
"should be"

Yeah, great start. Many people have terrible home networks with cheap signal boosters, many isps provide terrible free modems. Distance from the modem is also a factor as well as your house's room configuration, wall insulation, other wireless devices, the channel you use or even your neighbour's modem can create issues.

Again, you need identical conditions if you want to benchmark a streaming device instead of "should".

It should work the same as any remote play option

That's a missed opportunity, really. I could have been tempted if you could play your games library anywhere, via the cloud even if someone's playing on your ps5.
You mean like insurance if your house gets burglarized and they took your console, you can still play your library while waiting for the cops to never show up?

I agree, but do you know for a fact if they are or not?
Based on what I am seeing on the Deck video, he must be on very good wifi. The guy with the portal looks not far from the reports of -+100ms of lag.

Wait a minute....It really HAS ?!!!

EDIT: Oh fuck, it actually has an airplane mode 😂😂😂😂😂

wtf-what-the-fuck.gif
Devices with wifi constantly look for wifi connections, even when no actively running (sleep mode). Air Plane mode turns off the wifi which would be handy if you are traveling and have this tucked away in luggage. Also, I'm almost positive it's required for specific electronics, per regulations.

On my phone, I have to log out and log into to other profiles. On my PS4, I can just select which profile I want to use and remote into the PS5 as that user. It would be fantastic if that is how it works here.

Seems pretty cool for a limited device. Biggest missing feature appears to be a sort of browser that would allow you to access WiFi networks that require some sort of acknowledgment or login.

I would guess that Portal would work like the phone option. I only watched the first review and it showed the log in but he didn't have multiple accounts, only multiple PS5s. If I come across the info in another review I'll give you the timestamp.

I'm gonna wait on early adopters and their feedback in terms of latency.

From the videos I've watched nobody bitches about it, except if you want to play competitive games like Call of Duty.

I could really use a device to game on my living room. I've used my smartphone with a controller from time to time, but it's uncomfortable as fuck.

What's the recommended internet speed for this? My PS5 is wired and it's Internet speed is around 900 Mb/s . Upload on console is low because Sony caps that shit. Wi-fi reaches around 200 MB/s.

I believe the recommended minimum is 15mbps

Nice hardware and works as advertised. You have a 10tf handheld gaming device in your hands while up and About the house. Think i will buy. Battery life is good, controller feedback is great. I dont understand the hate. Way better than a barebone with smartphone and not even that much more expensive.

There's a twitter vid in the OP which doesn't look very encouraging.
I saw al lot more video’s that are very encouraging about latency. Its not suitable for fast Paced shooters. Everything else is fine. When you play a lot of shooters, well this Will not be for you. Stop the hate, people just want their got, hades or Spider-Man fix while on the toilet. This Will suit those people 100pct.

Come on people so much discussion about this hardware. Its made for a specific reason. If someone s TV is being used and he or she can’t play on the big screen then he or she can play in another room in bed or the corner of the room. That is the whole reason this exists.People act surprised. This is not for everyone nor does everyone need one.

It's not, though lot of fuss is made about it. If you have to have it you can get a $10 adapter on Amazon. Same as the Switch. The proprietary connection will be far better

None of these are actual problems in your life. Just making fantasy excuses for you to pretend to need this product. "Hey Ive always wanted this thing despite never saying I needed it before it was announced!" If my dad spent all his time hiding away with his little gamer pad instead of riding bikes or something, I would kick his ass. And your wife's girlfriends (and boyfriends) call you a beta!

lol what the fuck man, heh 🤣

That Italian reviewer said that you CAN'T switch profiles and the handheld is basically tied to the account you sign in to the first time you activate the portal.

Sounds friggin stupid if so, then again, I don't know if that guy is versed into the whole console thing so who knows, maybe he's wrong?

Then that makes it a true portable and doubt we get that for $200
Steamdeck is a 2 tf system with 1tb that sells for 649 dolllar. There is just no way a 10tf system could go portable with current technology. Not when you dont want to pay € 2000 or up for it. This 200 dollar remote play system is totally optional, will not give developers "another" hurdle to take to get ps5 games to run on it and could very well suit a whole lot of buyers. Steam deck oled has 2,5 hours of play time, chokes at new games with only low or medium graphical settings. And it is seen as the best thing since sliced bread. Sure it's a great piece of kit but only for people who can look around the limitations. same goes with ps portal. it will NOT suit everybody but dont say it sucks cuz it does what it supposed to do.

Dear Paulie, the no BT thing, while stupid in 2023 is actually a non problem IMO, people.keep bitching about phones not having a 3.5mm jack, now they gotta bitch I suppose 'cause there is one but no BT.

This can easily be solved by a 9 eurodollars earbud set like the Sony MDR EX 15 LP or the Panasonic rp hje 125.

PS: Love ya man, big fan !

WiFi 6 is less range though, so swings and roundabouts
As far as I know the range between the two should be the same (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz are used with both), with Wifi 6 working better at the further ranges due to the connectivity and latency improvements.

Funny how you were just saying reviewers were being paid to hate on this device. Is someone paying YOU for these braindead takes? Brilliant decision to not support bluetooth. Just like the vita not supporting SD cards was a good move.

Switch supports bluetooth btw. 💀

Ah, yeh, you are correct, they are effectively the same, still, I haven't noticed much difference other than download speed when switching to WiFi 6 (maybe that's BT's WiFi 6 that is less than optimal or there really just isn't that much difference, I did have to add boosters though in my house)
