Keep dreaming.

The Wii U can't be used outside of your house though.

How? I've been checking daily in the US with no chance to buy it.
Why not just buy it from Best Buy? It’s been going in and out of stock. Hell I had to return the Best Buy one because Fedex did not see my note on my door. I kept the one from Target.

You know what to do... order 100 for starters, do what you preach....

Too much work for too little profit for my liking.

What I was saying is: people who purchased it and it wasn't what they expected and/or it didn't work well on their home WiFi, instead of returning it, can sell it for profit.

It's a well-known marketing technique for tempting the weak-minded: in the first wave, you offer very little stock, then a few weeks later you let the floodgates open.

It's a technique for creating demand and creating a need among certain people.

I think the big difference is developers don't have to do anything with portal. Curious to see how that will impact its sales.
Agreed and with it being a soft launch followed by stock sparsity and scalping the road to iron out the experience problems for the non-enthusiast gamer is probably going to be at least 9-12months, giving the device a chance to be good at direct-to-ps5, LAN and WAN roaming to PS5 and LAN and WAN roaming to Cloud service, when it comes.

If the Portal's turn-key experience for direct-play and async use reaches wiiu tablet experience, I expect we will see the device as a pack-in with the PS5 super slim at the end of the gen, with a view to make it a default PS6 pad at the start of next-gen.

It's an interesting proposition as a pack in, would help.them gain another advantage. However cost of that screen would motivate them against it. Would be cool though if you are right. But please full size thumbsticks......

It will be interesting to see the return % numbers on this. There's probably a lot of people that purchased it without even knowing exactly what it is and even more with shitty home WiFi making it unusable.
Its selling out, everywhere.

I had a second unit I got just in case my direct order messed up, I was going to return it but then saw how much they were going for on ebay and sold it there for £130 profit.

So even If people don't want them, they would be mental to return it, sell it for profit, those return % would be barely worth mentioning.

Also a side note, I had three people message me with direct offers and stories about why they want one, one was willing to drive a couple hundred miles to collect it.

This thing is selling like hot cakes, look at the numbers vs xbx as well.
The narrative that no one wanted this and its a niche product is woefully wrong and misguided.

I essentially paid £70 for mine.

Now that I think about it, more entrepreneur types would sell it with profit instead of returning it. There's clearly an initial demand for that thing.

Try to keep up.

I thought there were rumours that they considered doing a dualsense with a screen as a pack-in for the PS5, already.

Given the base selling price of a dualsense being reasonably high, now I suspect it will just be an issue of volume manufacturing to bring the device in at a profit with that screen. From memory even trying to buy a replacement 11" 1080p touchscreen OLED panel from Alibaba, etc suppliers for my Vaio ultrabook was only $20-30, so a Sony made LCD probably would add less than half of that price to a BoM IMO once making more than 10-20m

Why are people keep spreading FUD about the Portal. I don't get it, are you doing for the lulz or..?

Where pathetic fanboys see FUD, normal people see civil discussion. My post was completely reasonable but of course it was met with the most predicable reaction.

It's sold out: great news. It will be interesting to see if they can keep up with the demand and what this demand will be past the initial craze. It will also be interesting to see if a lot of people are returning it, just like there were some reports about ROG Ally being returned at a very high rate.

Nothing FUD about it.

I'm even struggling to get glass protective screens and a protective case for this thing.

It's been a week since I got mine and I only managed to get a semi rigid silicone protection for the device itself.

Already ordered the other stuff like a week ago and I'm still waiting.

What sort of reaction where you expecting when you entered the thread and started typing your post?

And what is pathetic is you calling out others 'pathetic fanboys' while coming in this thread and posting FUD like this.

I'm on this forum almost daily and I'd say I try to keep up with 'gaming news' but even I didn't exactly know what Portal is and isn't capable of and what even are the benefits of using it over other streaming solutions. I had to ask in the review thread.

I was expecting this exact reaction because forum is still filled with pathetic fanboys from either team, despite mods doing God's work and banning them. You can't have a normal discussion because everything is treated like a console war. Very, very sad.

I'll buy one when it is 30€ just like the PlayStation classic.
At the actual price this is the biggest scam in gaming history
I don't like the Portal, but you're delusional if you think it will ever go for a similar price. Regardless of how useless it is, there's no way they can sell it for less than 149. If it just was a DualSense + a screen you'd already be 3 times the price and it has more than that.

jup greedy sony is back and im not supporting them
Seriously asking, how's this greedy Sony? This is not a required accessory, you don't have to buy it. You can still get a PS5 for $399. No subscription was added to make you play your console.

So people calling you out for spreading FUD are now also console warring. I just can't keep up, mate.

You think people are going to buy it just because it's called Playstation something without doing any minimal research?

If only there was some sort of official website describing what the device does and a FAQ...

100%. There will be people buying it without doing enough or any research into the device and or their own home network. But no, let’s not even mention that because it’s somehow FUD! Meanwhile every other ad on my local marketplace is listed as opened for testing but as new. I wonder why…

Anyway, enough from me. I wish you all a nice day.

Such a double standard.
Many people on GAF told me that potential Xbox Series X buyers would never make confusion with Xbox One X because people know what they want to buy, so it wasn't a bad naming choice, but for Playstation Portal they are so damn stupid they'll buy it without even knowing what it is.
I guess Playstation users are really REALLY stupid.

Xbox naming is dog shit and extremely confusing for potential buyers. It’s almost as bad as Wii / Wii U branding. Where’s the double standard? I told you, forum is filled with fanboys from both camps. Luckily Xbox console is not selling too hot so there’s less of them.

I remember that there was a report that said that people were flocking to sell their PS5 to be able to buy an XSeX in anticipation of the launch of Starfield, what would have happened with that?

Fantastic device, wasn’t expecting much given my poor experience with remote play. Have tried a bunch of different titles, no issues jump out. Feels like a high quality portable device. Wouldn’t put it in the same category as remote play, they just feel like different experiences altogether imo

Just saw DF’s take, they said the 2012 wii u game pad was miles better then this junk lol, it’s just a overpriced remote player,

The Wii U GamePad was great, but lol wot?!

This is, apart from the lack of a stylus, much better than the GamePad. Though I've not looked into if there's a noticeable difference between connecting through a local router like the Portal and directly like the Wii U. Both use Wi-Fi, but the Portal has much newer Wi-Fi.

I do think there is a small tech-savvy barrier to entry on this thing. When everything is set up correctly, it's incredible, but I doubt some kid who gets one for Christmas is going to be happy with it unless he or his dad know how to log into the router.

The typical internet approach:
"A problem I don't have is a problem that doesn't exist, therefore any solution for such problem is stupid and pointless.
ME!
ME!
ME!
ME!

Nobody else matters in this world, only my needs are important!"

100% right. I hate our culture these days. The internet has made us dumber.

Sadly you have to check all the time as I have seen them in stock even today for a brief moment and they are putting the returns online as well

Sometimes it says unavailable nearby which means some stores have them just not close enough to you

If anyone is near the Evansville Indiana Best Buy I am returning one at some point likely this weekend

"The portal is useless, if you are enjoying your Playstation Portal, you should know that you are an idiot."
And if anyone honestly has that opinion they are a pretty sad human

"I hate (insert name "PS Portal" or literally anything) for literally no reason and I think you should think the same as me." Twitter is overpopulated with people like that, people who just want to spread negative feelings to others.
