Xbox going PlayStation isn’t unusual

I would  love to see Starfield's total sales numbers. It has to be one of Bethesda's all-time worst selling AAA titles.

If they want to actually make a profit on these games then this makes absolute sense, cuz shit ain't selling on Xbox.

I'm mostly curious how this pans out long term. Starfield wasn't great, but it wasn't as terrible as the user reviews were. It was mid, which was a letdown based on hype. Will user reviews trend back towards normality now that the Sony fans can play it? I expect so.
expect a much harsher feedback, since ps5 players like on steam will have to pay full price for this turd.

Not really surprising, it is clear at this point, that Microsoft does not really much care about XBOX anymore and why should they. They make much more money with Gamepass and software sales and already have their own platform (Windows).

Especially with the recent increase of Steam Deck competitor devices, there is not really much reason for them to have another separate platform. Especially in the beginning of a console cycle they actually loose money often with each sold console and make their profits with the software sales.

It’s a different Story for Sony and Nintendo, which doesn’t have another platform and if they would sell at PC they will get less money compared to selling on their own platform, but Microsoft does not have this problem.

I mean this pretty much kills another xbox console, how the F will buy one now? Unless they do the third party thing like 3do but that was a failed experiment too
Makes me wonder how much Sony can get away with selling the PS6 for with no competition. I’d imagine PS+ and exclusives cost will go up as well. They would have less incentive to release their games on PC.

But, we shall see.

I still think they release on pc still some money to make as far as console price 🤷🏼‍♂️

They are gonna have a fucking field day. They have no competition anymore. MS handed t he m a massive W. All Sony needs to do is accept gamepass on PlayStation now.

I actually want Microsoft to go third party. First of all, it super makes sense. They have tons of studios now, and their consoles just don't sell well enough.

Most importantly, I want a partnership with Nintendo for games like Banjo Kazooie, and a partnership with Sony for a new IP.

Competition? Xbox already in 3rd place before PS5 released. if that so happen? people just wait for PS Exclusive coming to PC.

Wow. I'm surprised. I'm just taking in the multiple threads now. I wouldn't have been too surprised if it were just Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush, although even that would have been significant -- a foot in the door and an indication that more was to come. But to hear about major, recent high-profile exclusives like Starfield, maybe Indiana Jones, maybe Hellblade II, maybe others ... I'm stunned that it seems to be happening at that scale and so swiftly.

Even if there wasn't competition from Xbox they still can't just go all out crazy. Try putting a console on the market for $600 and see how poorly it sells (in comparison to previous systems). They still have to follow the market trends and demands.

Also if Sony went crazy with prices people will always have Nintendo for their gaming fix.

If they do go down this path, there’s probably no need for me to buy an Xbox console
You all should've listened to me 2 years ago....

Shocked Uh Oh GIF

and yet we’ve heard nothing about a GP announcement for other consoles. And I’m not sure how that would work either.

I admit I certainly didn’t see this pivot to timed exclusivity/multiplatform support coming. Seems like a move that could end up backfiring down the line, but we’ll see.

Nvidia raised prices and people grumbled and still bought.

PC gaming has always been more tolerant of high prices. Its an expensive hobby.
Pricing the PS6 too high could ultimately reduce sales. Particularly in price-sensitive markets. Their lunch would just get eaten by Nintendo.
They'd need to carefully consider where they position their products.

Though at that juncture, they could basically operate Microsoft's Low-end, high-end double SKU strategy, but better.

Sony won’t allow it, Xbox will need to try keep that alive by itself. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear if it’s on the way out too.
Of course they will allow it. They are gonna get their competitors games on their platform. What makes you think they will not allow halo, starfield and the rest on PS?

I said from the beginning that this was never set in stone. Starfield was MS' most important Gamepass-related experiment- to see if a major exclusive by a major studio could boost Gamepass subs and reveal data regarding its potential future reliance on said exclusives. Apparently it has not.

Also watch people start to say they like Bethesda games again.

Guess is a good game now, eh?

It's a solid and addictive if old-fashioned game with numerous issues, most prominently being that after the first 15-20 hours you start to see the same things too often. Damn what a great fifteen hours though.

around 499 and 599. It needs to compete with Nvidia GPUs
No it doesn’t. Console gamers are NOT pC gamers…. Tho the Xbox crowd might be about to prove that wrong.

I can’t bring myself to buy a PS. It’s not even because of Sony. I think they are a wonderful company. It’s the insuffarable PlayStation fanboy. They have always been a nasty breed and now they get the last laugh. I just can’t bring myself to own one because I don’t want to join them 🤣🤣🤣….. steam….. I guess I’m going all in with you and Gabes posse. At least l can still use my Xbox relics ( the controller)

Yes, without any competitor Sony would start resting on laurels, pushing less on R&D and maybe further increasing prices. At the same time, MS has become such a cancer in the gaming industry that I hope they will leave the market or cease to seize existing IPs and push for GP.
But who could stand up to Sony on that? SEGA resurgence would be a dream, but they have no more the money and resources to do that.

Xbox strategy of not charging £70 on day 1 has cost them a lot of money.

Yeah, we can all bleat on the value of gamepass and blah blah. But these subs only work in terms of profit when you bring old games to them. You just losing money when you bringing Starfield out on day 1 on it. This wasn’t sustainable and Uncle Jim as much hate as he gets was right. MS should have charged for new exclusive games on release and waited a year before putting them on gamepass. Basically treat it like how PS does their plus tier.

Not doubting this ends up happening, but I don't buy that XboxERA got a scoop on this because...well...they don't have any credible insiders.

If this were Windows Central, I'd prob believe it more because Jez seems to have some inside track with some people at Microsoft's gaming division. He's basically an advertising mouthpiece for Xbox as a brand (despite mainly playing WOW on PC).
Idk, they broke the news that reviewers were going to give Starfield mid reviews for extra clicks and engagement. /s

The PC market and who they cater to is different from the console market.

PC market customers are more willing to spend more in general than the average customer in the console market
