Phil Spencer: announcement this week

If the insider reports are anything to go by, Bethesda as a company are doing everything they can to convince Microsoft to let them release on other platforms, the exclusivity is seriously damaging their brand from a financial point of view. We've already had a number of podcasts with insider knowledge mention this in the past week

There were internal emails leaked where Pete Hines complained about not letting them publish to PlayStation.

People thought that about Playstation games heading to PC and those gates haven't opened fully

I remember a bunch of blue bloods saying there was no reason to own a PS5 if they port a single game

Maybe, but if I got into PC gaming again, I personally wouldn't bother with a PS5 too. I'd be willing to wait for them to come across a couple of years down the road (which is what we're seeing). If slowly but surely we see more and more Xbox games move across to PS5, I'll be likely selling my XSX. As the PS5 is my preferred platform.

Ok this is getting a bit silly now lol. You are asking for someone to make public statements about the kind of things no one does.

In all your golden journalistic years, have you ever seen Nintendo or Sony make any definitive announcements like "Bayonetta 2/3 will not come to Playstation or Xbox" or "MLB will not come to Xbox or Nintendo" ?

It's a 99.9% certainty that Phil won't even acknowledge any 'insider' leaks or rumors at all and they'll make whatever statements they have to make.
I understand your point but the reality here is that the two really aren't comparable, there was never any danger of say rumours of Bayonetta 2 going to PS harming the brand or people migrating from the Switch due to such rumours. But that is exactly what we are seeing with the Xbox, it's fanbase is literally imploding due to these rumours and the rumours are weakening a already fragile brand. Here MS absolutely must be transparent and acknowledge these rumours just to try to strive off some of the damage they are causing.

Me too, it’s what made Xbox great.

If it wasn’t for Warhawk and Uncharted , Last of Us, I probably wouldn’t have bothered with PS3 at all.

In my opinion Xbox One/Series pale in comparison and that is what disappoints me the most.
Your words point out just why PlayStation exists like it does. "If it wasn't for games". This is Xbox's biggest issue and, if nothing else, was exposed to me during the 360 years. Sony had to fumble for it to stand out, and despite the fact that it is easily my favorite Xbox console, I saw the cracks and said, out loud then, that if Sony got their act together, this won't happen again. Xbox LIVE was exceptional, but I knew if Sony stepped up its PSN game, a lot of that advantage would evaporate. They just needed the right launch price. And that's exactly what happened!

Fast forward 10+ years and he we are, but Xbox helped itself into this situation, again, beginning with the 360 era.

Microsoft moving up this "business update" is already acknowledgeing insider leaks and rumors. This wasn't supposed to happen until the spring.

A lot of people keep saying Monday and when you ask them where they are getting it from they just say "Phil said next week"

IMO I think they have an NDA with Nintendo regarding Hi-Fi Rush being at the Direct and they can not talk about it until its announced. That is just my guess. We might be waiting the entire week.

I would have all the respect for Phil if he just casually drops a link to a blog post on twitter and it just links to a rickroll

that would be all i need in life, the meltdowns would be amazing, meanwhile level headed people would get a good chuckle

I could see this being the case, yeah. It would make sense to announce the port at the Direct.

They are about to either change the game or it will be nothing. I think the former, but just speculating, and I'm not saying whether their plan will work or not, or that it will be either good or terrible, but I think it will be a plan.

I think the reason for the "delay" in squashing the rumors is quite clear - they were planning to announce this strategy change later (remember their initial response was to leak that they would be making a presentation in the Spring). The mass pant wetting from Xbox fanboys and the gleeful but premature grave dancing from the Sony fanboys has brought that forward, but they still want to do a proper job and not blow it (as they have in the past) so have had some work to do. I'd say that means only one thing - they view this as an important moment that they need to get right.

The only things that I am fairly confident of are that they aren't going third party, aren't quitting the industry and they aren't putting major Xbox exclusives day one on PlayStation unless Sony reciprocates (which there is literally no chance of, sadly) or allows Game Pass (which is ever so slightly more possible, but still highly unlikely). One thing I really hope happens is Microsoft reduces its involvement with these online personality lunatics.

It could also be this has made their succession planning timing go off the rails, if the plan was Phil Spencer was handing over to Sarah Bond in the spring and they wanted her to announce her own vision at that moment. I might be saying that because I'm in the exact same position at the moment (on a smaller scale admittedly lol) - stepping down from my role to do something else, but only the board knows for the time being and we're trying to plan for minimal disruption and to allow the next person to hit the ground running.

I think they'll announce timing when they feel they've nailed it and not before. Wouldn't be surprised if they just drop it without warning too.

Ah, so the latest Kumbaya streak is over.

What are we doing? I'm entertaining myself watching you fall apart and show more than those three colors you chose to change face to. :p

You? Well, you have a vendetta against Heisenberg007 Heisenberg007 . Someone should get to the bottom of that.

You should try playing Helldivers 2, it's an absolutely amazing game and runs really well on PC.

More people should blame Microsoft for this. They do have the ability to end everything at this moment.
Well, given their FUCK YALL attitude, I will NEVER buy an Xbox console again.
Even if they manage to save face. They. Dont. Care.

It's that obvious. They cater to the shareholders and wipe their ass with the audience thanks to whom they have a right to exist in the first place.

Anyone with a spine and a sense morals and values should avoid this brand in the future.

They don't have to talk about any rumor at all.

You are simply setting unrealistic expectations to prepare your next narrative, which will be stuff like "Phil lied again" and "They didn't deny X and Y rumor so they are happening" etc... We know quite well how you work.
They are having this event literally to address the rumors. Phil's announcement literally started with "We are listening and we hear you." Lol

I think the issue is that they built the brand around their most extreme fanbase. Its why they are running into all sorts of issues. If they catered to more main stream gamers things would probably look very different for them.
