Fallout - Series Reviews

I tried to get my wife to watch but when I said it was based on a video game she was out.

so i watched the first ep and it's kind of exactly what i was worried they'd take the show, band of rebels saying random marvel quips and CGI violence happens.

maybe it gets better throughout the season , but considering we get a fuck scene like 20 mins into the show and then gross out violence this just kind of feels like is going for that adolescent the boys type viewer...
well, it's called the bloody mess perk, actually...

I fell asleep for half of the first episode.

Ill give it a shot tomorrow but its not really what I thought itd be so far.

Re moustache lady, my wife asked me why is there a trans person in this post apocalyptic world and where is he/she getting hormones :messenger_tears_of_joy:
There existed mustachioed women and men with breasts long before hormone treatments existed. In an irradiated post-apocalypse the question should be why do most people look 'normal'.
Sometimes you just have to go with headcannon - like I was wondering how a group of strangers could pass as vault 32 if they did these trades/marriages often enough to perpetuate the populations. Just decided that they did it with a different vault each time and it was just happenstance that this time it was with a vault only one number away.

The way they show it, vault 33 (or was it 31?) being just a short tunnel walk away, kinda makes you wonder why it would be a separate vault AT ALL. I guess the "wheat plague" thing as a way to isolate fairly small vaults is how they justify it, but unless they go into more detail about vault layout and design it's a bit of a headscratcher that
some bandits from the surface, TWO HUNDRED YEARS removed, could ever possibly impersonate vault dwellers. Though the one ladies comment "you look like your mother" implies she was once a vault dweller herself perhaps, or there is more surface contact than s1 sets up

I mean if we gonna go on that logic then shouldn't only certain characters cause deaths like that. Or does everyone have bloody mess perk?
well, the ghoul guy obviously does. yet to see if the other 2 characters do. also, not all that surprising if raiders had it...

also: isn't including the bloody mess perk maybe indicative of bethesda also going for that adolescent boy type gamer? I mean, why is it in the games in the first place, eh?...

Well that's exactly my point. I'd hope they went a bit more serious in tone for the show. I mean I've used mad max before. It's also hyper violent and crazy too but the movies take themselves serious.

Like I think that glass to the jaw was a good kill... but the 500 deaths that followed that felt like it was made for teenagers just felt very "modern".

Watched the first episode last night with my wife. We both enjoyed it. Looking forward to watching more over the weekend.

Wasn't a fan of the writing in EP 5, popping a fusion core out of a suit of T60 so easily, then Radroaches biting through the powerless armor was ridiculous lol, The Enclave and all the other enemies would of figured that out decades ago and there wouldn't be a Brotherhood!. it's hit and miss the Tv show.

while i hear what you're saying:

1) mad max is mad max, just like walking dead is walking dead. if I want those? I've got those. fallout is fallout. why would I want a max-ified fallout? I want fallout because it's fallout...

2) so the endless over-the-top bloody violence of 40 hours plus worth of a fallout game somehow doesn't feel like it's made for teenagers, or 'modern'? I'm having a hard time following you. there's a huge dose of juvenile DNA included in the composition of the fallout franchise. yes, the games feature legitimate, serious stories, but there's no way you can make your way through the radioactive wasteland of fallout without experiencing an overdose of ludicrously exaggerated violence & dark, post-apocalyptic wackiness...

I watched the first episode it with my wife, and she has declined watching future episodes. She liked the show ok, but the graphic violence is a no go for her. I do wish that in the future, these streaming channels offer an PG option of their shows where the gore can be cut out of the show without affecting with general flow of the show and allow a large audience to enjoy them.

I think there is an AI that will do that for you, wouldn't be surprised to see a streamer incorporate one to allows users to censor for sex, language, and violence.

Though I want an AI that can ADD that stuff if I so choose.

Enjoying it. 4 episodes in. Doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The violence is jarring though. It doesn’t really fit with the tone of the game.

Really puzzled people don’t think the ultraviolence is part of the game. It’s been part of Fallout since Fallout 1.
Indeed.

But it’s rather the stylised nature of the violence. Fallout is brutal but it is not gratuitous.

I don’t mind, of course. Just don’t think I would have chosen that approach.

The writing is inconsistent, but I like the visuality, soundtrack and some of the world building enough to keep watching until the end.

Finished EP 7, gotta ask, Brotherhood of Steel, advanced airship The Caswennnan, T60 power armor, not a single Laser rifle or Gatling Laser, what's going on!. no one has any energy weapons?. 1 left to watch.

I saw a laser rifle on the wall in the shop in Filly, but that was it. I was a little bummed, as I usually play energy weapons builds.

um, vats kills, anyone?

I'm thinking there're some people who haven't played a fallout game in a while..

Again, it’s more the ‘fork in the eye’ or the ‘meat grinding limb replacement’. It’s good fun but makes you wince.

I just don’t think the game has ever had that level of gore. It’s not Doom.

I do like the VATS moments though. Well done.

I’ve just finished episode one. Does this show get substantially better in all departments? Based on page one I thought this would be a tier or two below the finest television. I had issues with the pacing, the dialogue is really poor, most of the performances are shallow (Kyle MacLachlan did ok), far too much slow motion Marvel combat to 50s music.

Inoffensive beige slop.

Is this 9/10 dialog? I was planning on giving this a hate watch. The wife is always nagging to watch shows together and figured I could give her a few hours of satisfaction. But man after watching this clip, I'm thinking it's not possible. Who wrote this? What man, in any era or physical condition, answer that question like this? Gotta be one of the worst scenes I've ever watched.

It does get better.

Watching episode 5 at the moment. It’s being slightly overrated but stick with it.

well, if you're doing vats kills, resulting in all kinds of bloody chunks, dismembered limbs, decapitations, & flying eyeballs, i'm thinking it's not really all that much of an extension, eh? I mean, while I guess there's a 'levels of gore' discussion to be had, i'm not sure i myself will ever be ready for it...

Most of the people praising it are hardcore console/xbox warriors who defend anything even tangentially related to their favorite plastic box manufacturer. Then many others are of a certain ideological persuasion who will defend anything that is associated with a particular 3 letter term.

It is boring crap *at best*. At worst it is barely above Rings of Power in the Shit-O-Meter. I am 2 episodes in and already about to drop it.

Stop being a snowflake. You don't need to "hate watch" something when the show is considered good to great by most. Like everything, you give a fair shot and come to your own conclusion.

I’m genuinely confused.

What’s the three letter term?

Just finished watching this,

The last episode is really good, but if this show is canon i have only thing to say: Fuck Todd Howard

Also the ending

showing that Season 2 will be in New Vegas is hype

I gave this clip a fair shot I think. Am I missing something? Can a 9/10 piece of visual media have a clip like that in it? Perhaps it’s a deft spin on the modern condition. Subverting expectations and challenging viewers. Exploring the paradox of plutonic relationships in a post capitalism world. Daring the audience to look within, reflecting on their own dogma and accepting some hard truths.

Well after the first episode, its definitely Fallout. Not Rings of Power.

Keep this going! Episode 2 on deck tonight. Hoping for DEI and the nonsense machine to keep itself at bay.
