Sony just shot themselves in the foot.
I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Helldivers 2 for either system, nor will they purchase any of Sony’s games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.
Sony, publicly apologize and cancel Helldivers 2 PSN requirements for PC or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Master racers are such babies. This is such a non-problem.
They aren't taking this to the Supreme Court or smashing their PC's in front of Sony headquarters - just taking two seconds to click a thumbs down button. It's not like this is gonna change anything. It's not like there aren't plenty if console gamers who will take the time to make[/] an account just so that they can give a '0' to a game they never played.

Tell that to the reddit autists trying to organize campaigns to take the matter to the european commission and to short sony stock together.

That thread is very amusing lol.

Its a bad image. Sony went back on their words after stating you arent required the psn account.

Trust is broken at this point.
Listen to yourself. “Trust is broken.”

What were you “trusting” them to do? And what? It requires you to sign into a PSN account? Is this something that one would “trust” you don’t ever have to do?

It’s a game owned by PS, makes sense to have folks sign in.

And the reviewing bombing is childish. It has nothing to do with the game, but Sonys policies. Just beating up on arrowhead about it.

Do what you want. If it’s a policy you don’t like, cool. But using phrases like “trust is broken” just sounds like a serious lack of perspective

Losing Access/Not being able to play a game you purchased is a "non-problem"? If the ability to create an account was in the majority of the world, then I would agree. Sadly there are hundreds of countries that can't do so.
Have an example? Or is this tales from your ass?

I was a bit shocked by how many countries PSN does not serve. Some like the Bahamas, Jamaica, or the Philippines are real headscratchers. I thought it was available there.

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Seriously, this gen made me dislike the Pc Community. Like they’re very overreacting and they port beg like there’s no tomorrow.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
People are unable to play the game they purchased if they live in one of the many countries that can't make PSN accounts.

"Over Reaction"? Nah, this is a normal reaction.

And it's not like Sony, as a major publisher, is going to ask people to use VPN to get over the hurdle.

It doesn't help that PC is quickly becoming the platform of choice for Japanese gamers. Sony decided to westernize themselves and their entire approach to the Playstation business, but if that wasn't bad enough they keep making boneheaded decisions. The Jimbo era is going to be a shitstain on Sony's white pants.

This doesn't impact 95% of players, even if they live in one of the countries where they don't have PSN they're likely a small % of the player base, hence why the player count is the same on steam. Doesn't mean it's okay, but there will likely be an alternative solution soon.

Sony should port all their PlayStation games to PC. They should also do it on day one.

But Sony must not ask to connect to a PlayStation account -- let alone having their own PlayStation launcher.

Sony must serve the entitled master race exactly where they want it and how they want it. Otherwise, they will cry and review-bomb games and hurt the developers, game sales, and revenue that's helping them keep people employed.

Is this the free account?
Seems like an over-reaction. Didn’t Horizon Forbidden West have this too? I’m 99% sure I logged in, I think I even got a costume for it.

But any ”Why would I want to live there?” scenario is worth a backlash, Sony should’ve made sure the account is available everywhere before doing this.

guys. I just went to Twitter and it seems this shit is a big deal. Daniel ahamad or whatever is fricking out I guess. and I'm seeing a lot of tweets about it and a lot YT videos saying Sony killed HD2

This is a PR disaster that could shape the future of Play station PC initiative in its entirety

Calm down now it’s just user reviews, you can change your score so if they reverse the login requirement the scores will go up again, this is how fans can wake devs up on unpopular updates.
But not being able to have an account in all countries makes this worse than it could’ve been. Sony should’ve sorted that out first.

Is this the same trick Microsoft pulled eith Sea of Thieves? So that Sony can add those users on the numbers?

I bet Bungies next game will require it too.

i was not taking about the user scores. I'm taking about the discourse around it.

Good question! If they will retroactivly ask people for PS account for their 1st party, will they added also to Destiny? To singleplayer games?

It’s just noise after an unpopular update, gets louder because more are playing it. I don’t see Sony changing their whole PC initiative from this. And what exactly would they change?

theoretically speaking, Sony next step in their PC strategy is to make their own store front.

If they bend the knee after this massive backlash, it could have repercussions in the long run.

for example hindering the "ecosystem" between PC and their console.

making and linking and account is not that arbitrary for these companies. Xbox is very sneaky around this.

If they "hold the Line" and this "noise" dosen't go away, then the game could be affected and the PS brand on PC could be damaged.

There's a lot of corporate-ass bootleggers in this place. It's sad as shit. Corporations - McDonald's, Sony, Nintend0, Disney, Netflix, Amazon, Warner Bros, any over-rated sports team, any league they reside in, are not your mothafuckin' friends. It's fuckin' sad and pathetic to see how many console players are rushing to defend Sony from Sony's own stupid choices. When Microsoft was on top during the 360 era, and Sony was eating shit with the PS3, people defended paying for online and laughing at Sony players for even "having" a PS3. The shit is so gay and tiring to see people well over the age of 21 act like little fuckin' girls and blindly defend people - CORPORATIONS! - that don't even give a fuck about 'em. Shit is sad.
Like, y'all unironically doin' this shit. I've never been a PC guy ever, Nintendo and Sony all my life, but I know when I'm gettin' fucked, and I know that I "have" been fucked by both of those two companies. I don't blindly defend them when they blatantly fuck me over and leave me with no options other than to stop playing. Y'all ______ ain't fuckin' slaves stop actin' like it.

I understand why PC-only gamers are upset since the benefits of linking your PSN account do not apply to them. They don't care about cross-progression, cross-save, trophy support, etc. However, they also have to understand that Sony will always prioritize PlayStation gamers first and foremost. As someone who plays on both, I want this. I want my trophies to be integrated. I want cross-save and cross-progression so that when I start a game on the PS5 and then go a trip for 2 weeks, I can pick up where I left off on the Steamdeck. Is it annoying for the PC-only gamers? Yes no argument there.

I want my cross-progression since launch so that i can double dip the game. If this is so annoying for them, then they should just stop buying all the games on Steam which require 3rd party account.

Oh I get it.

But no one actually cares about that. They're downvoting because they're pissy, not because someone far away is put out.
So to you because someone can't use the service that is required to play the game they bought, it makes them pissy?

I've read some funny conspiracy theories that it's the first step Sony will be taking before bringing PS+ to PC and charging for online gaming. You may laugh at this, but considering how money hungry Sony has become after the success of the PS4 generation it's not entirely out of the question. ;)

No I'm saying few if any of the downvotes are from Vietnam.

You are probably right, people that bought the game in many countries can't actually use it anymore, but it's ok just sign up using a different country right? Thing is they shouldn't have to as the game was purchased before this was a thing.

This will change nothing. The ecosystem will be fine. At worst the negativity will spill over to other Sony Steam releases, older and new ones like Ghost of Tsushima, from angry people wanting more heat on Sony from this move.

But currently Sony and every other publisher that want to have their own launcher in the future are just using Steam to get more people aboard because it’s a huge and popular platform. It’s not a longterm plan. Enjoy it while it’s there, that’s my advice.

Longterm everyone will stop playing nice and will have their own launcher outside of Steam with their own exclusives and everything locked to specific accounts. Streaming will obviously happen too but people don’t want to hear that so let’s ignore that for now… And smaller platforms will be under the umbrella of bigger ones. Probably going from one to another through licencing deals. It’ll be exactly like with TV streaming services. It’ll be a mess and we’ll hate it but it’s going to happen anyway.
