Jez Corden: I can say there are very, very big discussions going on regarding exclusivity internally at Xbox

This is the way to go for them. Make games available first on Xbox / Xbox app then roll out to PS5. If I were them I'd even go cheaper on Xbox. Make it the affordable place for people to play, what have they got to lose.
Billions of dollars and lots of jobs when the games don't perform.

But other than that...yeah nothing to lose.

There's a signed agreement with Sony for Call of Duty on PlayStation for 10 years, and a legal commitment to the competition authorities... In other words, it could happen with other games, but not with Call of Duty.

That said, exclusivity for multiplayer and GAAS games makes no sense in the industry. Even less so for multiplatform MP games and IPs.

The best thing Microsoft could do with these games (Call of Duty aside, as an exception due to legal requirements) is to leverage their ownership to tie their marketing to their hardware and the Xbox brand with bundles, exclusive content, etc. Inexplicably, this is one of the things Microsoft hasn't done, even though it would have benefited their hardware.
This is what they SHOULD have done in 2020. They spectacularly wasted the Bethesda acquisition. On the day they acquired the studios they should have immediately commisioned a Fallout 3, New Vegas port remake. Smaller projects with id tech. it would have been a great way to give smaller studios more experience.

All they got from that acquisition was Starfield and that didn't move the needle in the slightest.

Be pretty funny if MS held back stuff like COD, etc for PC and Nintendo only.

I mean, Playstation fans are telling us how wonderful it is that Sony's first party stuff is no longer coming to PC and is PS exclusive now.
Financial suicide for their gaming business + guaranteed irrelevancing of COD.

It's one thing to hold back a new, unproven IP like Starfield. It's an entirely different whoopsie to hold back a multi-billion dollar franchise that has a 60%+ userbase on PlayStation. It's like if Disney decides that Zootopia 3 will only be released as a Viewmaster reel.
Fascinating how such a big company can be ran so incompetently. Without exiting the market(s) they're in, that is.
They keep catering to the minority of (what was) their userbase. It's admirable to a certain extent to ship canned beans and Helix hoodies to Jez and co. But from a pure marketing perspective, you're just not going to be big by going small.

Interesting that when it was Xbox Exclusively being discussed before and going to PlayStation he had zero knowledge. But the other way round he's in the know? Lol. Classic Corden.

Unless you have data this is just console warring. I want to see the data. I'm not interested in console war takes. But cold hard factual data is something I'm interested in here.
We have sales data for other games, we know Playstation has 3 times the userbase, we know Xbox owners are mostly on Gamepass. Pretending we don't know anything about sales is just ignorance at this point.

Because they're killing it with market share right now
A third party publisher doesn't need market share. And that's what Microsoft is. Their hardware business is dead.

Their games seem to be selling very well on Playstation so I don't see how you just cut that off. Nutella himself has been talking about expanding gaming on all platforms, making your games exclusives won't magically sell a 1200€ box.

What difference does pricing the games more expensive if they don't perform anyway? Did you even read what I said?
I did. You said make everything timed-exclusive/cheaper like they have nothing to lose when they literally have a TON to lose.

They've tried this. Over. and. over. and. over.

Its resulted in closed studios and a dead brand.

Lots of people don't have a pc.
This is more true now than ever, and im a PC only guy from back in the 90s, because of the massive price hikes in hardware, in my area alone, i only know 2 friends with pcs anymore, there use to be loads but they have all said the same thing, too expensive and it is,

It makes sense to me for MS to make a cheaper console but support PC aswell with less closed walls and more importantly, make better games.

Are you trying to sell the idea that hearing a conversation on Friday is impossible if you didn't hear a conversation on the same subject on Monday?

I don't have any affection for this guy, but your post reads like someone who just wants to criticise something without any critical thought whatsoever.

There's a phrase that is "play the ball, not the man" which basically means that if you disagree with what is being said explain why.

I wish Microsoft would cut down the links with these fart sprayers and let their products do the talking instead. They are already sending out Project Helix stuff to "influencers " so it looks like it's going to be the same old shite PR wise.

What's the alternative? Make everything more expensive everywhere and hope people just buy more consoles?

Guess those idiots will want to do their best to get market share then.

This is a discussion forum you know.
They're not getting market share though. The brand is dead. Xbox sales have completely collapsed years ago.

Yeah it's a discussion forum. What does that mean? You don't want to be confronted with reality?

I agree. Those people create resentment toward the brand. People would tolerate if the products justified it. (Nintendo influencers are awful

They're releasing a new console, the discussion is what they could potentially do to sell the new console.

Yes, their sales have collapsed, that is known. So they're probably considering how to change that yeah? You know, what the OP is about?

They're not releasing an actual console though. They're releasing a Xbox branded PC.

The OP is about a completely worthless statement by a known Xbox shill who has zero credibility.

Xbox: releases games on a platform where their games actually seem to sell
Xbox: maybe we should reconsider?

It's so retarded that I actually believe Jez this time.

For the record, here is proof im the true Xbox Warlord, I knew about this along time ago, Phil told me when I was over at hes for a Halo game night 🟢💪. Get ready to order an Xbox Helix if you want to play good games.

You're just wasting my time. I'm not interested in conjecture. I said I wanted data. Not forum post logic.

Maybe some games will be Xbox Helix exclusive in some way (but I don't know wich way...)

Maybe some game will not be available on gamepass on day one (Wich is almost sure from the latest rumors)

But all those acquisitions MS made are expensive and must sell a lot more than the actual Xbox userbase and potential userbase.
Not to mention the Antitrust radar, you can't take off the market so many developers and IPs from one day to another and expect no one remember that Microsoft assured Antitrust that games from ABK will be available on each platform even after the Activision Blizzard acquisiton

Amazing. This is one sentence. One. And there is no OR after the EITHER.
Is that written by a malfunctioning AI or Jez?
You can't do both well, either the hardware operation will shrink to basically what Surface is now, a shadow of its former self, not its death bed, do you really want that for your Xbox brand which is the only consumer facing ecosystem which has any form of cloud with consumers, and Satya said in the leaked conversation with the staff Xbox have also value in the corporate side because when I meet with a lot of executives they don't want to talk about cloud, they want to talk about Xbox, they want to talk about Halo they want to talk about Xbox games, it's where you reach your consumers when they're not working, I think increasingly they recognise this.

I think Jez has a great point. MS should limit their releases to Xbox Series, Windows Store and upcoming $1300+ Helix.

These platforms will clearly sell games like crazy and recoup $80billion! Everyone knows Xbox and Windows Store is where all the sales are.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything. Will be interesting to se3 the prices of all next gen consoles given recent price hikes
If Microsoft prices Helix below $1000 I will legit believe that they are serious about Xbox. If they price it at $1500, it's nothing more than them throwing a bone to Xbox.

At $1000 if you get a machine that has an xbox mode that can play Xbox games with BC and a PC mode with a gaming focused Windows. I have no issue calling that a great machine that would do good for the Xbox faithful.

However, I have no faith that such a highly priced machine would bring in new customers.

Would be a bad strategy. I could see them doing timed XBOX exclusive as a good idea + extra perks exclusive to GamePass like skins, weapons, etc. but that's about it.

Microsoft never publishes their numbers. Don't you think there might be a reason for that?

Here's a hint: It's not because they're out of this world good.
Well then I guess we will never know if there is or isn't a financial reason for them to pull back exclusivity. Maybe they decide Forza / CoD / Bethesda games stay multi-platform but nothing else does? I think it really just depends on those numbers.

If Gears of War Reloaded bombed on PS5 would they bother with a port for E-Day? I guess time will tell when we get that announcement.

I'd like for every game to stay on PS5 going forward so I don't have to worry about buying a Helix at all, but there's a part of me that thinks they could pull it back depending on how the PS5 games sold.

I bold that statement because I think if the games sold extremely well they will continue, but if they didn't sell extremely well I could see them just not bothering. If only we had the data.

Good. Stop being stupid.

If your games are fucking everywhere, then nobody has a single reason to buy your console. LMAO. it's so simple.

And Sony needs competition again, a stagnant, unmotivated Sony is bad for everybody.
Sony has tons of competition. More competition than ever.

The mistake they made with Gears of War Reloaded was that they needed to make the long rumored Marcus Fenix collection that has all 3 games. Gears 2 and 3 are stuck on the 360.

I have no issue saying that I think a Halo Masterchief collection would sell 5M copies easy on PS.

Like Steam, Nintendo aren't Sony's competitors, only Xbox is. Speaking of which, Xbox is THE WEAKEST one. :/
