G Gundam 18

Bless Rain's cynicism regarding Domon's traiining. Chibodee's crew looks better in action girl garb than their crew uniforms too. I guess Schwarz Bruder is a practitioner of German Ninjutsu. even his Gundam is a freaking ninja.

This comes across as so petty.

G Gundam 19

I'm surprised the Russian crew leader actually sees the Devil Gundam as the true threat. Bolt Gundam vs Dragon Gundam was one of the better fights yet though.

Gundam 00 S2 6

Well I got my wish and the pace slowed to a boring crawl. Setsuna vs Mr. Bushido looked fun. Too bad I have to wait until the next episode.

Kaiji 3

The addition of stuff like leaping the chasm and the flimsy bridge add so much to tension. I didn't even realize I'd watched a full episode I was so caught up in things.

Sailor Moon 2

The interaction between Usagi and Luna has me laughing more than expected especially when Usagi asked for her reward. This Tuxedo Mask seems like a shifty fellow just disappearing like that. Usagi would be wise to steer clear of him.

Shin Mazinger 8

It's nice to see my feelings of Ashura being a sort of sympathetic villian be vindicated. Didn't catch it in the first ep either but Viscount Pygman's form is actually Jim Mazinger from the Violence Jack manga.

If it weren't for the unfortunate presence of Gundam 000 Season II I could safely say that you're watching some of the finest anime around!

Oreimo sold well IIRC.

OreImo isn't so much well written as it is well pandered. It's built right into the title.

The story is barebones and mostly nonsensical, the characters however are well characterized and likeable. When you hear/read people talk about OreImo they spend most of their time talking/writing about the characters, not the plot.

You have a point there. Especially since the show has like 3 endings.
However, that's why I presented Madoka Magica instead.

It's nice to see someone else watching Sailor Moon, I've also just started (re)watching the first season.

Its not a "hnng show" its a show with hnnng in it.
They are not the same thing. An example of a show purely intended to hnnng and nothing else is Lucky Star. Madoka Magica is not just girls being cute for the sake of it it has a story to tell besides that.
Then I found your aforementioned post confusing.

Why would you say this
theres no law of otakus saying a hnng show has to be shit.

after this
I mean that a show with all the moe elements in it might actually be written fairly well on top of that.

if you meant two different types of shows entirely? Anyway, my original point still stands if Madoka is the exception to the rule.

What? Not a single character in the entire show (apart from the dad, he was fine) was at all likeable, and most of them were very unlikeable. Combine that with some of the worst tropes in anime, smeared with a smug pseudo-self-aware filter on top, and it's the perfect combination for a terrible series.

Actually, I'm going to provisionally take back my statement that OreImo isn't well written, but it's not well written in the way most would characterize such. When I get home and have something other than an iPhone to type on I'll expand on this.

Kuroneko is pretty likeable, but then again I like that kind of character, and particularly her seiyuu. I would agree with you about kirino though. she was as annoying as characters come.

Kirino was fine. An unlikeable character isn't a bad character.

This is very true, and something I personally often have a hard time accepting, but I would still argue that Kirino is a bad character.

I really don't understand why people like Kuroneko so much, I think they're just being misled by the cat ears.

Oreimo sold well IIRC.

Oreimo is as bad as Haruhi where the main character is incredibly hatable but everyone else is the show's saving grace. Plus the whole white knighting into getting everything Kirino wants was terrible.

Actually now that I think of it, Kuroneko was Oreimo's Kyon.

Right, there's not much of a story, but the serious moments (
When Kirino's dad finds about her hobby
) were rather well-written for a self-aware and pandering show.

Buut i'm probably in the minority regarding Oreimo. /sigh

This is interesting, because I also dislike Kyon, who was supposed to be the strong point of Haruhi. Both shows smack of dull pandering hidden behind a smarmy smug self awareness that does nothing to meaningfully change the fact that they are dumb pandering shows.

At least SHAFT's pandering isn't dull.

Of course, you have pantomime unlikable characters that you can end up liking, but Kirino had no redeeming features at all.

I really don't understand why people like Kuroneko so much, I think they're just being misled by the cat ears.

Probably because she was the foil to Kirino, and played her like a violin at times, it could all come back to how insufferable Kirino is.

Sadly, it wasn't self-ware enough. Episode 4's fanservice was tasteless even for anime. If it was any other harem show, it wouldn't be so bad.

Not everyone has to be redeemable person. They portrayed her selfishness fine.

Because whan I say a hnnng show im talking about from my point of view, not necessarily how the shhow has been marketed.

Kanamemo 2

A newspaper delivery service with their moe newspaper deliverywomen and their loli/tsundere chief. Sprinkle some implied yuri here and there and you've got Kanamemo.

It's one of those things where if you don't like x character the whole thing falls apart in what glimmer of appeal there is.

Not everyone has to be redeemable person. They portrayed her selfishness fine.

They took her selfishness to intolerable extremes, they even trolled the audience when she tried to play an eroge but could only get tsun responses and got pissed off at the game.

For you and probably many. I found it perfectly tolerable. And the eroge scene is as much of a troll as it is tsundere fanservice. Ayana Takeratsu nailed her role in OreImo.

Personally I like characters with the same kind of appearance and personality of kuroneko and she is also just really damned cute and voiced by kana hanazawa.
Kuroneko was definitely the perfect foil for Kirino and i think they worked well.

She's a good character, and I think a lot of people would agree.

She experienced a lot of development throughout the series. Started off as a shy tsundere, went on to show moments of
weakness, more specifically when she talks to Kyosuke about how Kirino is better than her during the light novel-creating arc
and
by the end, her personality became brighter and had the courage to kiss Kyosuke.

Voiced by Hanazawa and cat-ears helps. :p

Sadly, it wasn't self-ware enough. Episode 4's fanservice was tasteless even for anime. If it was any other harem show, it wouldn't be so bad.

Hmm, what happened in that one? I can't recall D:

There was nothing dere about it, and I think that was the point of why it made me rage.

A dere moment isn't a prerequisite after a tsun moment. How tsun a tsundere is just as much of an appeal of a tsundere character as the dere you get after a tsun for tsundere lovers.

So, AnimeGAF, would Soul Eater be worth owning?

It's shounen, main character is voiced by Chiaki Omigawa, I remember I stopped watching it at the last two episodes because one of Duckroll's posts scared me many seasons ago, with that said it does start off good with entertaining characters.
