The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim |OT2| Team Edward's Revenge

I just started playing again after a long hiatus, and man what an amazing game. I completed the main quest and Thieves Guild, but still have the Civil War, Mages, Companions, and Dark Brothethood to go. Also a bunch of side quests I missed.

Should I just work my way through all of that stuff before I get Dawnguard? Part of me just wants to reduce and not add to my lengthy quest list, but I also want to see some new story stuff and loot. Think I might get Hearthfire right away though.

Any disadvantage to starting Dawnguard before completing that other stuff?

No. I would do it now if you want to see new stuff.

Grabbing Hearthfire early is a good call I think. I feel the house building stuff works better as a side objective, instead of trying to do it all at once.

I can't think of a disadvantage to starting Dawnguard early either. In fact, it adds a few things to the base game
some new Falmer clutter was added to the dungeons that they appear in, Dwarven Sphere Centurions now drop crossbow bolts, and also in some of the Dwarven dungeons you can now find these blue crystal parts which are part of a new side quest
.

One thing to be aware of, is once you start Dawnguard, you'll probably want to stick with it until completion, or avoid towns at night
as random vampire attacks can kill off NPCs
.

This song is making me nostalgic. It's almost been a year, amazing how fast time flies.
Came into this thread out of curiosity and now this song is doing strange things to me...

I owned Skyrim for about three weeks and loved it. Was one of my favourite game experiences ever. Then I traded it in. It was eating up all my free time and even affecting other areas of my life (eg, would skip practicing guitar and would stay up playing). I'd also heard how after about the 40 hour mark it begins to kind of fall apart and become much less interesting (counter this if you feel it's untrue). So I felt comfortable trading it in.

I'd love to go back, though, since I still have my save file. I want to reach all the other towns that I'd heard about and continue exploring the world. I just wish I could play it in moderation. Don't have the discipline, I guess.

Got back into this a few days ago and its' been eating all my gaming time. When I first got it, I put about 20 hours into it but eventually just put it to one side and didn't really return.

In the past few days I've put roughly 16 hours in it, and falling completely in love with it again. I'm really taking it steady, not even touched any of the main story quests yet (haven't even been to the Whiterun Jarl, for example), just exploring and already coming across huge landmarks that I didn't see the first time around.

I love collecting ingredients for my alchemy, stumbling across completely new people and places, and just soaking it all in. I spent most of the past 8 hours of the game just in Solitude, doing just two quests and adding a bunch more to the miscallaneous list.

I'm slightly concerned if I spend too much time in one city at one time I could burn out on that area of the game, I don't particularly want to exhaust all the quest givers in one area, so I may force myself to leave Solitude and venture out.. although having said that, I did the Lights Out! quest tonight and there were a couple of locations and doors that I couldn't access just yet, or thought better of visiting, putting them in my mental notebook for later.

I'm sure I'll forget, but wow, such an awesome game.

Oh, and I love reading the books like Cake and the Diamond, Cabin in the Woods and the history of the real Barenziah, and just reading up on the lore. Adore that attention to detail.

History of Real Barenziah is one of my favorite readings in general. Everytime I play any Elder Scrolls from Morrowind to Skyrim I try to collect those books and the official history.

In general, books in elder Scrolls universe are one of my favorite aspects of these games.

Ok so im listening to the oblivion soundtrack and i've come to the conclusion that it's better than than skyrim's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxuaDhXlJeU&feature=relmfu

I haven't played skyrim yet but from what i've seen, and read around, it seems the world is not as memorable as oblivion's. The environment combined with the music is what made oblivion so special for me. Hearing the soundtrack brings back alot of memories playing it on PS3 (you have my ear citizen).

What's peoples opinion on this? Does skyrim have that oblivion charm(Some people don't even like oblivion though)?

I started playing the series with Daggerfall, and only just started playing Skyrim but I highly disagree with your opinion. I've put in about 25 hours, but so far Skyrim blows away Oblivion in the areas that count for an Elder Scrolls game. The geography of the game world is leaps and bounds improved over Oblvion. The crafting system for potions, food, enchanting, and weapons shouldn't even be compared to Oblivion's, they're that much better. The overall combat isn't improved that much, but the animated killing blows do add a bit of extra dynamism to the combat. Also, NPC AI is improved, in that NPC activities are more varied and interesting.

Above all though exploration is soooo much better in my opinion. Navigating through the mountains was frustrating at first, but after I got used to it I fell in love with Skyrim's game world. Climbing to the top of the biggest mountain in Skyrim was a revelation to me. It might have a lot to do with the fact that I love hiking, but exploring Skyrim is easily my favorite part of the game; just as it was in Daggerfall and Morrowind. I can't say the same with Oblivion, and that will always be the largest criticism I levy at it. Overall, I have to say you are only doing yourself a disfavor not playing Skyrim if you enjoyed Oblivion as much as you profess to.

Well as i said, i haven't played it. Im only going by what i've seen and heard. But i still love oblivions soundtrack more i think.

I will definitely be playing this. Thanks for your opinion. It's reassuring.

Other way, around, imo. Oblivion was kinda cool, but when you compare the rolling green hills, green forests and pea soup landscapes with what Skyrim offers, the latter is just in a completely different league. Oblivion was a nice try, but Skyrim's overworld can make even climbing a mountain seem goddamn epic.

In reference to the soundtrack, I think Skyrim has the better main theme. Overall though, I too would give the nod to Oblivion for the overall soundtrack. Both are great though. I love me some Jeremy Soule.

It doesn't really fall apart, at least, it didn't for me. You can get overwhelmed with stuff to do if you're not careful, though.

There's a lot I love about this game. But at the moment, if I had to pick one small touch I appreciate the most, it's the little follow up vignettes to quests and events.

Some are simple, like the letters of inheritance that pop up when certain "friends" meet an untimely demise. Then there's the out-of-nowhere coda to A Night to Remember - the bit with the hat and the bandit - that showed up like, ten hours after I finished the quest.

A few days ago I murdered some random guy because he had Stormcloak leanings (my hostile vegetarian is from Cyrodiil, so she leans toward the Empire), and I get a letter from someone thanking me for doing so. She's a rival of his, apparently. Just now I head to a tavern in Falkreath and find it's the lady behind the bar that sent the note, via a dialogue option.

Another occurred when I killed some farmer (Stormcloak again). Later, pack of "hired thugs" showed up to try and kill me. Damn near succeeded, they were pretty brawny. The guards outside of Markarth did nothing to help defend me, the lazy bums. I finish off the leader and find a letter from the person who hired them. I'm pretty sure it was the farmer's wife.

Toss in the handful of assassination attempts from the Brotherhood, and I've had over a dozen of these little follow on moments to quests or random acts of violence.

Again, they're little things. But I love how after all this time, I can be tromping through the woods and the game can still up and surprise me.

Anyone else get the glitch in Hearthfire that if you hire a steward and get them to decorate your house nothing actually happens? Two of my houses are barren and the dialogue options are gone now.

Yes but I think the appear eventually because around 5-6 days some furnishings started to appear and slowly but progressively became more and more. I think I have slow decorators.

Yeah, give it time. The pieces are slowly added over time. I'd try adventuring a bit and coming back later to see if anything changed.

So, I created my current character to complete the Daedric quests, and get the Achievement along the way.

I've done all the ones I know about, then checked the wiki for the complete list. So next up I'm trying to get The Whispering Door, in Whiterun, going. Problem is the innkeeper, Hulda, won't mention the Jarl's kids. I just got some rumors about the tree in town and how it needs to be restored. After that, the option for rumors went away.

Is she the only way to start this quest? I'm level 35, so I'm high enough.

I never unlocked that quest with my previous character, too. Apparently, it's a bug:

Hulda may not show any new rumors available after you are level 20. Try talking to her anyway; she may give you an old rumor, then follow up with this one. If this does not work, the console command setstage DA08 10 will initiate the quest and give you a quest marker to speak to Nelkir.

I just created a new character, too. Red-Fern the Argonian, who mines with a pickaxe and kills with his claws. Wish he could've gotten some custom kill animations, like him pouncing on an enemy and clawing him open instead of wrestling him to the ground.

It's been a long time, been a long time, been a long lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely time.

Yeah, I love this stuff. I've put over 300 hours into skyrim and it still has the ability to surprise me. My favorite moments are coming across new locations and piecing together little bits of information. Finding Bards Leap Summit, Angi's Camp, blackreach. Heck, just recently I went into Frostflow lighthouse. I had passed by it a bunch of times but finally took the time to check it out and found the terror within. Even if the stories are quite simple, piecing them together really adds a lot to the world.

Personally, I loved Oblivion, but I don't think it's fair to make any judgments on Skyrim without even playing it. As for which I like better... I don't find Skyrim to be leagues better than Oblivion like most people do, though admittedly I still haven't explored enough of the world to truly make my mind up. I've put around 30 hours in and would estimate that I've only seen 2/3 of the map, and only a tiny fraction of the game's overall content. It's probably the one title that I will continue playing well into the next generation.

Skyrim definitely has more distinct and better-designed cities/towns and dungeons, but I really, really loved the overworld of Oblivion. It's not just nostalgia talking, either, as I consciously felt this way every time I'd play the game. Skyrim certainly has its charms as well.

I do greatly prefer Oblivion's score over Skyrim's, though. It's just so much more memorable to me.

Well, shit. The only reason I made this character was to clear all 15. And now I've got 14.

Dammit. 70+ hours into this character.

There is a way to get both items in the quest 'Ill Met by Moonlight'. I got saved by this because I screwed up another Daedric quest and didn't get the item but getting both in that quest still fulfills the 15 benchmark for the achievement. So I don't know when you did that quest or if you could go back to an old save to do it but it is possible.

Edit: Elder Scrolls Wikia tells me that it may not always work anymore after a more recent patch.

So how do I start building a house? Who do I go talk to?

Similar to buying a house in other towns, you need to earn the right to purchase the plot of land.

You can build in three places, near the towns of Morthal, Falkreath and Dawnstar. Talk to the Jarls and their stewards in those towns. You'll need to complete a quest or two, then you'll get the option to buy the land for 5,000 gold and get started.

subversus

I've done nothing with my life except eat and fap
So I finished the main quest a year and 103 hours later.

I don't know why people complain, it was epic, had options and it was pretty challenging in the end. I liked writing. The locations were beatiful. Overall, I think Skyrim deserved its sales.

Now I'm gonna live Skyrim to Elseweyre.

So any news on the latest DLC?

I really, really want to replay the game again after "rushing" thru my orig playthrough at roughly 70 hours; but, I want to wait and get as much of the DLC in on this next playthrough as possible.

I know no one can give solid dates, but is it sounding like it'll be out by years end?

Edit: Oh, sorry, I just saw that this was only a name found in some patch notes - probably a very long ways away

This is my strategy too.

Bethesda gave a "No comment" to VG247, but that's the latest I've seen.

So is the ps3 version of this game still buggy as all hell? I haven't played it since july. I searched on neogaf and can't find anything about the ps3 version except that we prob won't get any of the expansions. I feel cheated for buying the damn thing since i do enjoy it a lot but it has crashed on me so many times (and i hardly played the damn thing). I need to build a better pc but have been so busy.

As I recall, there are 16 possible, you should still be able to get the achievement with a different quest.

16 are possible, but only if you follow an exploit to get two Daedric artifacts from Ill Met by Moonlight, which I did not do.

Looking at the list of Daedric quests, 15 deliver artifacts that count for the achievement. One (the Skeleton Key during the Thieves Guild questline) doesn't count. So unless I manage to trigger The Whispering Door somehow, I'm screwed.

I did everything in one playthrough but messed up that achievement. I destroyed one artifact and then didn't get the other due to not knowing i had to place an item on an alter.

When i read up about them afterwards i facepalmed.

I don't have it on PS3, so I can't comment. There is this though; it's not very specific, but here's an archive of the patch notes:

1.8 beta is the latest on PC.

Is it worth spending souls at the merchant or is it better to use found items instead and use the souls to level up?

Also, the item that let's you write... can it only be purchased or will I eventually come across it?

This is the Dragon Souls OT, not the Dark Souls'.

Made me chuckle!

Jumped back in last night after a loooong break. Easily fell right in as if no time has passed. Still feels fantastic to just run around and discover random bits of the world, even with a 150+ hour character.

At this point, my main character is still at level 52. He's a sword and board Nord with some bow skills for hunting, never really dipping too far into the magic pool. My goal is to get him up into the 70s to take on a legendary dragon. I want to do this legit and skip the Infinium glitch. Any suggestions for the guy? He's definitely going to up his two-handed skill tree but was also curious about magic...

If you don't plan on using magic, then train your magic up with skill trainers if you want to get a high level.

Once you dismiss a follower and leave them behind they normally head back to their home. In lydia's case that would be Breezehome or Dragonsreach in Whiterun.

Well I never told her to "apart ways", told that woman to "wait", guess she didn't want to wait. Lol
But thanks, I shall go to those places and look.
