Microsoft Studios' creative director has some choice words about always-online

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
What if they are still deciding between 3 shells?

Seriously, this is getting overboard. A computer case is just a case!

If you want to complain about something legit, name the price!
I'm just using it as an example and it was the first thing that came to mind. Yes, the price is another factor. Possibly playing used games. There's still things we don't know about the PS4.

You didn't read any of the Superdae reports after he was arrested. He pointed out to MS that he had the power to shut down their servers because of the way it was configured when he hacked them. He didn't do that to brag but to point out a security flaw when he was still on decent terms with them.

That's true, I didn't read all the details of that hack. But even in that case it doesn't mean much for all the "home spying" paranoia. Servers are meant to be accessed and controlled remotely, unlike clients like a console. I'm not even sure of the kind of hacked account that gave him access to the servers (maybe not a regular employee ID), but anyway having access to the server doesn't mean that he has access of any PC/hardware that connects to that server.
In other words, even if he could shutdown the main server, he couldn't shutdown Steve Ballmer's personal laptop. Just like if someone breached the Xboxlive server, it wouldn't give him the ability to start a video stream on your console.

And... the problem with that is...?

O.K. Hypothetical. There is still things that we do not know about the PS4. For all we know there is something there that will piss off gamers. Now, with 3rd parties being heavily involved with both consoles, its more than likely that each manufacturer knows some of them secrets.

If Sony go on the offensive, its more than likely MS will drop a titbit about the PS4 that has journalists and gamers asking questions to Sony.

If Sony stay quiet, any attack by MS will just look like they are fishing and throwing their toys out of the pram. If a shitstorm is big enough (like this is) MS gets covered in the stuff and Sony's hands remain spotless

Si, pero dice que no guardamos secretos de nuestros gamers, no se si en Argentina es más usual decirlo así, pero yo diría No guardamos secretos a nuestros gamers.

For not Spanish speakers: Maybe in Argentina they use another expression but for me It will go as:

We don't keep our gamer's secrets. That means they don't keep info for you, it's common to say things this way.

Again.

Have you actually played DS3 or did you just read a headline somewhere and believe it to be true? The gameplay in DS3 doesn't revolve around the concept of DLC, you're not forced to buy DLC to progress through the game nor is it vital for resources.

Your suggestion that MS will use Kinect to see how many in the room is ridiculous. You can point to the patent all you want, but there are hundreds of patents taken out companies every day and yet most of those are never implemented.

For what reason is it ridiculous? The technology is already there and if the rumours are true, kinect will be required to be always on and the box must be always connected to the internet.

It is but a small step from there to use kinect to gather data on how many people are in its field of view when the box is being used. The patent has nothing to do with my suggestion.

I haven't played DS3, currently playing 2, so I used the word seems for that reason. I also said strongly encouraging not force i.e. each time you don't have enough resources.

Looking at the change to the weapons and items system from previous games I can see no good gameplay reason for changing it from nodes to one that includes the option to purchase dlc.

Isn't one of the new apps MS is developing for the new xbox remote use; i.e. such as a phone app that will let you control parts of the system from your phone? Or am I imagining something?

That in and of itself would lead some sort of hair-brained credence that some hacker could view you through kinect remotely.

That doesn't even take into account the thousands of verified gamertag hacks that have happened because of EA, MS, and Fifa. MS and EA still to this day haven't said anything was their fault and blame it on all the users who have their account hacked. Hell we don't even know how pervasive it is because MS refuses to release information about the on-going hack.

Yeah I wouldn't trust an online-only system from them right now.

They have something similar for the current Xbox with Surface tablets, W8 phones and probably W8 PCs, but I don't have a Xbox to confirm, just watched it on some tech demo they did recently.
They'll probably have it improved on the new Xbox.

That's what I thought. And with so many devices that have the capability of controlling something remotely, their system is going to be tested by "hackers" unlike anything we've ever seen before. There will be a loophole somewhere and someone will find it unfortunately.

You have a fair point. There are several ways to keep a client protected. We'll see how things play out if MS does require always online.

As if I needed further proof: my normally very stable internet was down for 15 minutes this evening and was quite unstable.

I'm showing that the first post was last updated at least 12 hours ago.
No kidding. I read the OP when the thread started almost 2 days ago. That gif wasn't there. It was updated sometime afterward to include it. If I didn't recognize it, is it fair to accuse me (or anyone else) of not reading the OP? Sheesh.

Was about to defend always online gaming internet died and Lauren's 85% complete save in Infinite vanished and put her back to the Aviary.

I would hope most people are aware that with news this big, the OP is constantly updated. It's a great way to stay informed without having to ask repeated questions or post content that originated on this thread in the first place.

Good lord this thread got crazy. Last time I checked, Orth was making excuses and now the man is fired, always online Durango is sounding more and more confirmed, and MS is doing nothing to stop the wildfire. These next few months leading up to E3 are going to be amazing.

Wait, what? Is this confirmed? Pretty harsh if true, very silly comments but losing a job in these times is a downer.

This year is going to be very interesting, seems that there will be a battle between us consumers vs gaming companies that troll us
