Anyway, many years ago, Sony also had Arc the Lad that was almost a million seller.

The first two Arc the Lads were million sellers. If you add the Best version, the first game sold well over 1.5 million.

191 PS アークザラッド SCE 1995/06/30 111万0000本
214 PS アークザラッドII SCE 1996/11/01 106万0000本
446 PS アークザラッド (ザ・ベスト) SCE 1996/07/12 47万6199本

So I remember correctly (I didn't put "almost" at the beginning). I wonder how Sony could fuck up such a big IP.

They pretty much sacrificed all of their IPs that were popular in Japan in favor of games that would appeal more to the west.

I also think that some of those IP were quite specific of the platform and the period. Parappa the Rapper doing a million wasn't going to last; Arc the Lad suffered the jRPG fade we saw during PS2 era.

The JRPG genre was still alive and kicking during PS2 era, at least in Japan. I still don't understand why Sony completely ditched this genre. The had a potential with games like Arc The Lad and Legend of Dragoon.

Well either Sony has a MH game for Vita lined up for this year or they're going to be sadly(?) disappointed with Vita this year

Sony released two Arc the Lad games for PS2, but they didn't sell well. And also produced three jRPGs with Level-5 on PS2.

Anyway, PS2 saw the affirmation of known IPs, but few new IPs selling really well, and no jRPGs outside DQ / FF selling over a million.

Maybe they were terrible and hence failed. Who knows :p

I do remember the Level 5 RPGs. I think they were Dark Cloud 1 & 2 and Rogue Galaxy, right?

Anyways, i hope they get back into this genre again with PS4.

I don't think they will.
Given their effort on PS3, and what they showed for PS4 so far, to me it seems Sony will not develop Japan-oriented games outside Minna no Golf and some indie titles like Tokyo Jungle.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
So will Sony fund another Soul Sacrifice game for Vita? With all the advertisements the game got, surely it must have costed Sony a lot for all?

For the bigger picture, i believe they will fund another soul sacrifice even if they didn't breakever for the game. They have to put on a brave front and pretend it is a major success, so they can convince people that the vita situation is not as dire as many people think.

konami looks like they've had decent success with the 3ds. maybe they'll finish up mega man legends 3 after all?

After all, you cannot sell games that don't exist.
The only two releases were Magician's Quest and Castlevania. The former performed quite well in Japan, the latter underperformed, but it had just one month of sales apparently.

At this stage, I don't understand all the love for Megaman when Breath of Fire has a more urgent need to be revived.

3.15 million for MGS series in FY 2013. This only includes 1-1.5 weeks of Revengeance sales, right?

I hope somebody can give us exact MGR numbers.

I heard that Square recently canned several titles. Maybe, one of them is a secret BOF revival project.

Thanks for proving my point.

Lol, edgy!

Every single week since the price cut someone makes the predication that Vita will return to sub-10k numbers within 2 weeks. Since that time, however, Vita has never dropped below the #2 spot on either chart. I always get a good laugh by all the arm-chair gaming industry experts in this topic. It's rich, really!

You have become the new Vita master ninja.

Since you fail to understand the obvious Vita's real test will be after Golden Week, when software drought begins. Not that it did anything special last week

Haha, see the fact is i really don't give a shit. i fucking hate nintendo for personal reasons , but even then im not going to get all butt hurt about proving that the Wii U is a massive failure. But i digress. I'll see you next week just for shits and giggles Mr. "Sales-Age Genie"! And what is your prediction? Will it drop from the #2 spot on the hardware charts?

It might not drop from the #2 spot and still selling abysmally, like 12k units.

Why this preoccupation with second place? It's outselling 7 year old consoles and a failing console. Second place is absolutely nothing to shout about.

I like Nintendo, but the Wii U is failing. Personal opinion has little to do with anything.

Those are some fascinating numbers. It's staggering to see how strong its leg continued to be for 2 years.

It will be amazing if New Life can manage to hold off the original.

I think eshop downloads will significantly contribute to those numbers as well. AC has become very big indeed.

Are eShop sales factored in to these Japanese numbers? If not, these and Animal Crossing's numbers are even more impressive.

There were also predictions here that the Vita was going to maintain a 25-30k baseline after Soul Sacrifice. It goes both ways, dude. Who is closer to the true baseline for the Vita? We'll know in a couple of weeks!

I love this trend of posters showing up and trying to call out other people for making actual contributions to Sales-Age.

Famitsu numbers have those download cards you can but at retailers, but not purchase made directly through eShop. It seems AC is close to 4 million units so maybe it has been download 500.000 times.

He means you'll probably get yourself banned in the near future (i.e. before Vita hits third place).

For what? Exercising an opinion that differs from his? If freedom of expression is a bannable offense here, then do it cause I wouldn't want any part of that kind of forum.

Not sure if people are aware (haven't been following these threads too closely recently), but getting a download card at a convenience store (not a game store) is a few hundred yen cheaper than downloading it online through buying points. So perhaps more people may it with download cards than they do through points.

I would guess your rhetoric, not your opinion.

Maybe, but IIRC there was a period where AC was sold-out both retail copies and download card, so many people chose to download it from the eShop.

Good point. That period most definitely existed.

Assuming the Media Create data is exact, then Animal Crossing digital (store card + eShop) is 883,772 as of 31 March.

Edit: if I've done that right. The sales data here http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/sales/software/3ds.html minus Media Create totals on 31 March.

Possibly for coming into a thread and insulting established and respected regulars?

Disagreeing's fine. Being a dick isn't, really.
