Xbox One: Details on Connectivity, Licensing (24 hour check-in) and Privacy Features

I think the family thing has no real way of checking who really is in your family so I think it's going to be as flexible as people think it is. Since you can't all play at the same time, it's not going to be a big deal. It's unlikely they're going to do any extensive checks because there are just so many issues involved that I doubt will make it worthwhile to MS to do. They're just calling it family, so you don't immediately read into it as a way to exploit it. For many they won't think beyond family members.

I am guessing they will all have to share the same billing information.

Can you imagine the magnitude of pissed off parents this Xmas when their kids come crying to them because the internet went down? This is going to be a refund slaughterfest.

Most of it is completely terrible, but you can't really argue that being able to play your games at the same time as someone else on a different console is nice. My brother and I could both get Xbones and split the library between us even though we live hours apart, and we could be playing at the same time. I'm sure there're gonna be absurd hurdles to jump through to verify that the people you can share with are actually your family though. Cause that's so much different than sharing with your friends, anyway.

I know there is crying in some corners, but this is actually the first console in the industry's history where saying "fuck off you piece of shit console" is not actually trolling. It's simply the unvarnished truth.
Indeed. I mean Xbox has been very disappointing with the tv,tv,tv, lower specs and bundled kinect. (ignoring the fact that it has to always be on)

That alone would only leave me apathetic towards this console. It's the bullshit drm which makes me hate it. If Xbox One is successful it will set a bad precedent going forward.

I read that as one person can play at a time, not you AND one person.

Up to 10 accounts with access to shared games. One account can play a shared game at a time.

That's how it reads.

"You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time."

Reads like you and one other person can, with it saying you can always play your games.

B.b.but online trading marketplaces and constant enabling/disabling keys will allow stuff. All delivered by magical unicorns on a cloud.

Jesus people stop fooling yourselves. MS, Sony and publishers dont give a rats ass as long as they think every stopped rental and used sale equals a new sale. PERIOD.

If you don't sell your games that means you keep them around right? So in 10 or 20 years when the authentication servers go offline you're cool with losing all of your games?

No one seems to apply that rationale to any other online game service (Steam et al), even though it's just as true. Valve are a very healthy company but if I had to choose which company will last longer my Pepsi Challenge money is on Microsoft.

Too many spoilt brats in this thread, if your world is ending because of this information don't buy an Xbox One.

At this point all Sony has to do is walk on stage at E3 and say that we can do what the fuck we like with our physical copies and I can't see how Microsoft can possibly compete.

Weird times.

Sony don't even need to show any games. Just come on stage and announce you wont have a DRM solution like Microsoft. Drop the mic. Walk off stage

Audience will give a standing ovation

Does this statement :

negate the sharing your library with 10 family members?

It doesn't make sense that your 10 family members would be able to play your games on another console for an unlimited amount of time whereas you can only play it for an hour.

My guess is they will probably have you associate up to 10 different devices to your account but that would lead to a group of friends buying only one copy of a game sharing it. There are probably more restrictions they are not sharing at this time.

If you're online and signed into your account at someone else's house on someone else's xbox one, there is no one hour restriction when accessing your game library.

If you're on your own xbox one, there is a 24 hour offline limit, but if you're on someone else's at a different house, there is a one hour offline limit. Simply being online takes care of all of this.

perhaps I haven't been paying attention, but I have not seen anything resembling this coming from Sony, rumor or otherwise. I would be disappointed if true, though.

and besides, people seem ok not choosing the Wii U regardless.

its going to be the same thing based off the wording. Microsoft basically said its up to the publishers. That's what Sony has been saying since day 1.

I was primarily an Xbox gamer this generation, but with the way things are going, I think I may become a Nintendo gal and purchase a Wii U first. Pikmin 3 looks great.

Same here if Sony has similar restrictions, I will not support such BS with my money plain and simple.

I'm cool with all the games that are coming out on the PS360 (and my massive backlog) for at least a year or maybe more plus I'm getting a Wii U this fall, a 3DS at some point in the future for sure and I'll build a gaming PC at something like 2015 that will play all the next gen multiplatform games much better than the PS4 and Xbone...the only sure thing is that I'll
never run out of games to play.

Sure, being allowed to sell the game you just bought when its value has decreased greatly sounds awesome.

I was sitting here trying to figure out how this is legal, and I think I've got it... and if I'm right, it's genius, in a way, if pretty reprehensible too.

It's the cloud. Have cloud functionality? Suddenly you're not selling a product, you're providing a service. And it's quite reasonable to restrict how a service is consumed and transferred, when that's not the case with the product.

"The infinite power of the cloud" exists so they can do this. It's a trojan. It doesn't have to be - conceptually, I think the cloud can do some interesting things - but here, it's been weaponised. PR about how wonderful the cloud is is PR intended to encourage you to accept this system.

...which only one of the ten could play at any given time? Why would anyone do that? Think of these like PC CD Keys...you can't connect to servers all using the same CD Key.

For a single player game its perfect. Play through something like Bioshock then a friend could play through it and so on. Even if im 10th in line id be playing the game for much cheaper than i would any other way.

Just to be specific, combining what we have on that page regarding the family thing:

1. You can indicate up to 10 accounts to be family members and thus access your library on your Xbone and any other Xbone.

2. If you or said family member access the account on a Xbone that is not your main one, it will check every 1 hour if you are online or not instead of 24 hours.

3. Family members can't play the same game at the same time when using multiple Xbones.

So, yes, you could share with a buddy, but he would have online checks every 1 hour on his console and you two can't play the same game at the same time.

It won't be as simplistic as this.

If Gaffers think of this idea, so have Microsoft and Publishers. I am sure there will be restrictions.

I guess, it's even simpler than this. Only one player can play the game at a time. Forming groups in order to save some money is probably not worth all the organizing about who gets to play the game at which time.

Who woulda thought MS would actually pull this shit off and have the balls/ be so fucking dumb to do this. I hope to everything that is sacred and holy that this doesn't catch on and become the norm. If Sony and Nintendo do this, I'll find a new hobby. Fuck this shit.

Jesus. Next week is gonna be INSANE. It's not even E3 yet and already I feel the hype and shit storm coming.

It's no different. People want to hate it. Let them have their moment. They'll all buy it and PS4 after they do same let publishers decide stuff move.

I guess people don't notice all electronic media has DRM. If this really allows 10 people to play same game. Fuck yea. My whole family can play games day one with me always. Day one for me on new xbox.

I have a network of close friends in a certain vicinity of where I live. We all buy different games and can enjoy them all because we buy certain ones that maybe the rest of us don't and share between each other.

This all goes to shit now.

What makes gamepublishers think I will go out and buy a game at full price if they block used games???

Many titles I have not been THAT keen to buy at full price at launch but instead bought them at say, Gamestop for a cheaper price..

Why should it matter to you who supports it? Aren't people allowed to make their own decisions? This is largely the problem with some on here. There is such a lack of being comfortable in your own skin. It isn't enough for you to say fuck Microsoft and you're not buying a shitty Xbox One, because you don't like their policies or strategy. You also have to display animosity towards people who don't agree with you.

How childish is that?

Most people are unable to detach themselves of their way of thinking to try and see things from the other side. They only see what they believe in and everyone else is an idiot.

Fuck MS. Outside of OS's, I don't think I'll ever buy one of their products again. It's amazing how Ballmer single handedly killed their legacy.

I love how the people who kept damage controlling during the Orth incident and May 21st are right here continuing to spin even after everything is confirmed to be as bad as it seemed.

You are either horribly deluded fanboys or you people really are corporate shills. Like a malignant tumor on this board.

Choose carefully your friends. Close the list 30 days before buying the Xbone. And in the end there can be only ONE ... friend that gets the game from you. Let the Hunger (Gamers) Games begin.

Billing address on credit card tied to the account. Super simple way to do it.

Don't have the same billing address? Don't have a credit card attached? You're SOL.

You have to look for the most locked down answer and you'll find the truth.

Untill they straight up say:

Yes you can borrow games and play them on your console.
Yes you can trade in any game whenever you want.
Yes you can buy used games.
yes you can rent games.
Yes you can gift games if you want.
Yes you can play offline if for some reason you don't habve internet at home for more than a day.

If they are saying this I just dind't got it and I don't understand, meanwhile I will not consider it at all.

Of course Sony can come up with this same kinda deal in wich case we are left to chose:

Because we know what sonys system specifically is.

Well, considering that this system is entirely dependent on consistent online access, and we know the ps4 can run offline, this system cannot be enabled on a system level.

Publishers would need to make specific games online only on the ps4 plus invest in the infrastructure for the disc serial number databases. I suspect it won't be used by most publishers due to that cost.

It's so cute how you give microsoft the benefit of the doubt when they have dropped a flaming turd on your doorstep.

Used games will not happen. The discs are worthless after they are authenticated once.

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

of course they do... transfer to another user
