Tiny Thief is soooooooooo adorable.

Dumb easy for now, but it oozes polish and charm.
Stuck at work now, can't wait to play it on iPad later (no iCloud support it seems tough).

At least it's universal, GC supported and no iaps in sight.

It's out 11th, and from what I hear the original TWD app will be updated to add the new episode as an IAP.

iPad 2 support for Deus Ex is coming soon™ as per the devs comments.

The episode appeared in TWD before I applied the update.

Does it actually use your save game?

Not sure about iCloud but can at least of ingame and delete the downloaded IAP episodes to conserve space.

No problem about the OP. :)

But I can't reach an options screen to turn off Everyplay. You don't have an options screen on the main login menu (design flaw) and if I log in, I'm put into combat phase automatically as my commander and game is fetched and then the game crashes. Halp!
Ahhh... Well, I can tell you this particular malfunction is exclusive to iOS 7, so it's not exactly a design flaw... These are the trials and tribulations of those who dare reach into Apple Pandora's box early, right? :p

Do you have access to a non-iOS 7 Apple device? If you download the game there and finish the tutorial (which should take you 10 minutes max) with that device, you won't have to worry about this problem anymore when you log back in on your iOS 7 device. You'll be able to access the options menu from either the main menu or battlefield to disable Everyplay at that point.

Picked up Deus Ex last night, just to support larger games. I have HR on PC and PS3 and I haven't played it yet, so I doubt I'll get stuck into 'The Fall' immediately. Seemed pretty groovy from the 5 minutes that I did spend playing it though.

Wish Plants vs Zombies 2 was not a F2P game. Getting to the pirates section was a pain of replaying a bunch of levels over and over again to collect enough stars to get there. Or pay $5 to get through. Plants that were free in the original game now cost extra too. All of this just bogs down what is an otherwise great game. Do I expect them to make truckloads of money this way? Yes. Do I have to like it? No.

Yeah same here. If plants vs zombies 2 has any new elements they are basically an excuse for IAP - that would be okay in itself since I had a blast playing it but when the game asked me to grind through the past levels to progress to new area I gave up on it.
So much for promising the IAPs will feel unobtrusive, they are just as bad as they are in Gameloft games IMO. It certainly feels at this stage like it's a bit pay to win.

Damn you, EA.

STAR WARS KOTOR is 50% off

Normally I'd feel the same way you do, but I'll tell why that is a fair question: not everyone has a credit card linked to iTunes, sometimes you just have a few $ left on your account and there are plenty of people who have their main account linked to an AppStore region which prevents them to acquire new iTunes $ cards in a matter of minutes. So it's more a matter of "don't wanna waste my last few $ buying this when I could buy that... which one is better? Is cheap game X worth it?".
.

Thank you for stating this so eloquently!

Do you need to still have ep5 on the TWD app to get your save working with 400 days?
Also, after having played 400 will I be able to delete the app till Season 2 comes around? Are there cloud saves? Or something I could back up via iFunBox?

I would like some more info about this too. I think I had to delete my save (but I MIGHT have backed it up, not sure), so if this needs a save and the other DLCs installed I think I'll just skip, it'll take hours to re-download all that stuff again.

Apple REALLY need to sort something out about save backups, there are too many long games around now and space is at too much of a premium. I love these big experiences (30 hours in KOTOR yo, 20 in XCOM so far) but I hate how they have to stay on the device all the time for fear of losing saves.

You can play it without a save game if you install TWD, it requires episode 1 as on other platforms and that one's included and free by default.
It also works with any existing save game and will in turn be taken into account for Season 2 once that comes around. But it can be played as a stand-alone thing too, recommended it's played after you've beaten Episode 5.

Apple has technically done something about save backups already, iCloud saves, but unless Apple starts enforcing iCloud support, it'll still remain in developer's hands to support or not.

Then there's always iFunbox..

I also grabbed Mini Motor Racing when it was free t'other day, and I'm really enjoying it. Dunno why, it's a daft little racer, but it's charmed me. The car auto-accelerates and you basically just drift / slide around corners using a steering wheel in the bottom left of the screen. Drift too much and you lose speed, drift too little and you hit the barrier. That's all there is to it. Daft, pointless, fun.

I wouldn't necessarily 'recommend' it or anything, I just thought I'd mention it was tickling my fancy.

I've left on TA some early impressions on Tiny Thief (a dev is there too, so I asked some questions) so I paste them here too.

Adorable, simply adorable.
It's everything I hoped to be since I saw the first screenshot long ago...way before it got delayed and Rovio picked this title up to be published.

It's 'casual gaming' done right. (At least for my hardcore gamer tastes).

The characters are so cute and hilarious, they could be part of a Disney Pixar movie hands down, congratulations to the devs.
Everything is soooooo polished.

It's a bit on the easy side so far, but I hope it gets a bit more difficult later on and, Rovio style, many additional levels will be published.

2 little annoying things I noticed.

1) Even in silence mode, you can hear music from iPhone (I know there is a mute button, but it's not cool in the middle of the night, exlecially when you wake up wife).
2) Too bad it doesn't support iCloud sync. I noticed that mid game, if you pause, there is a strange icon on the right...I was hoping it was some sort of 'Rovio cloud sync' but so far nothing happens...what is that for?

Anyway, great title...very charming and perfectly executed.
I guess the Tiny Thief can easily become an iconic character like the famous angry birds or Nom from Cut the rope.

BTW...later I'll post some more elaborate impressions about Sword&Arrows, but some games in and I'm LOVING this little gem.

That's the charm of the series.
btw, how does it compare to 2? I haven't bought 3 yet. cause I still haven't completed 3 yet

Its basically the same thing (same UI, same level elements at least in the first set) but a LOT harder. It doesnt really compare to 1 or 2, those were relatively OK in difficulty

Any more in depth hands on impression on Deus Ex The Fall? A bit on the edge if buying or not, given that I can free up enough space on my iPad 3...

Is kotor likely to go lower ($2.99, $0.99, etc) by the end of the year? I am not too familiar with the price reduction trends of higher profile, $9.99+ iOS releases.

At least 2.5 gigs iirc. Runs great on iPad 2 so I would assume the mini too.

You were talking about not having the correct character for defeating a particular boss earlier in the thread. Is there any advice you can give to someone who hasn't played previously about how to make sure I won't have the same problems? Is it a skill I should learn or more dramatic than that?

Just have a couple of force powers that can strike from a distance and you'll be fine. I realised later that I had L1 Force Lightning and that did the trick in this instance. You might also want to think about speccing your character for melee early too, once you get a lightsaber it's swordfights all the way. Blasters seem mostly useless outside of a couple of spots (my Carth did pretty well with a mandalorian heavy blaster and a sith assassin's pistol in the late game)

1) nobody knows
2) isn't half off enough already?
3) you cheap git

I paid full price for it, and I felt I got my money's worth.

The current trend on rpgs is they get reduced to $5 then completely removed from the store

It'll probably go to $1 before the year is out so if you're not in a rush to get it then I would suggest to wait it out.

I'll admit if I didn't see the game posted here I would't had ever found this little gem, but I'm really glad I did.

Some games in now, and I'm greatly enjoying the game...it has already taken place with my 'daily' async fav games (Lost Cities, BotB and Carcassonne)....and I am always disappointed when I see I have no turns to take (HINT :p)

Game may look very simple at first glance, but there is much more than meets the eye while retaining the accessability.

Basically, your objective is to destroy the enemy/enemies castles in a map where terrain modifies the units behaviour (on streets you can walk more than on forest, which provide cover, mountain are impassable with certain units if you haven't researched the proper ability...and so on).
Your castle can train (create) new units.
There is the soldier that besides combat can capture structures (mines gives gold every turn, camps heal soldiers, cities give gold, furnaces make researching faster...and so on); the archer is weak but has ranged attack, chevalier is fast and strong, healer heals...and so on.
On your turn you can move your units, train (create) new units from castle or barracks and start or continue researches that give you bonuses...from extended sight range to fire arrows.

Game is simple but after some turns in you really appreciate all the things devs put in it...
Will I conquer that mine or it's better move towards the enemy?
Will I create a healer to send behind the lines or a soldier to capture more mines?
Will I reasearch stronger archers or have my chevaliers be able to walk on mountains?

One thing I really liked you can appreciate playing on different maps is that...MAPS COUNT.
Different maps lend to different strategies (besides the obvious fact that your opponent strategy does that too).

I'm really enjoying the game, and I have to say technically is really polished and slick.
A 'retro' style VERY well done, with a cute and very nice graphics...no problems whatsoever.
You can play on portrait AND landscape on every device (iPhone and iPad), nice music, fast GC loading etc...
This game has one characteristic I now look forward EVERY async game...you can tell at a glance the situation and you do not have to review several turns...mandatory to have multiple games going on (that's why I stopped playing Ascension after almost 1 year no stop, and that's why I do not like Eclipse or Agricola).

I really recommend the title...which is even free btw (ads are really non intrusive but I obviously urge to support the dev, a fellow gaffer too).

Looking forward hearing impressions from other gaffers too.

Tiny Thief is super polished and cute, but I wish it was harder.

Absolutely breezed through the first ten levels with little to no thinking.

I've got confirmed by a trusted friend of mine (that is playing no stop the game) that world 4 and 5 are actually harder.
Nothing crazy...but she stated some late world 4 and 5 levels are truly epic and fun.
And she is still looking for the ferret on some levels.
I guess the whole game could take around 6 hours.

I'm halfway on the Sheriff world and yes...it's really easy even 3 starring everything.

Not sure I follow what you mean exactly. You mean it's easy to understand what the opponent did in their last turn?

Yes and no :p
It's a personal preference of mine, but speaking in general I like when in a async game I hop in the game and at a glance I can see which is the tactical situation, meaning I can take the 'right' decision immediately (or after two hour of thinking) but without having (if possible) to review precedent turns to make my decisions.
I do not know if you are familiar with these games...but for example Lost Cities and Battle fo the Bulge are like this.
Even if I could review all previous turns...I wouldn't have any more tactical advantage than not reviewing them.
This allows you to have multiple games ongoing too (without remembering what you did in each game).

If you have to know that 3 turns ago your opponent moved a fleet over that place (and now you do not see it anymore) and forgot because you confused this game with anohter one...I do not like it (just a personal preference).

While Swords&Arrows LET review your opponent last turn, map is so tiny it's not really required (we could argue that you could have forgotten in the now obscured by fog of war part of the map he has a whole army hiding you previously saw...but the game it's tiny enough that it's not a problem in reality).

Dumb question time: I deleted a game, let's say NBA Jam, which I completed. It is backed up in iCloud. When I re-download it, it doesn't recognize that I've ever played it. Am I doing something wrong, or does iCloud not do what I think it does?

Frostburn

Purely speculation on my part but with the changes making X2 apps from the iPhone look better on the iPad and lack of + or universal indicators in the app store on an iOS7 device I think going forward with the official launch of iOS 7 all applications will be universal. I'm calling it now, I could be wrong but I really feel that is Apple's intention moving forward.

If you see it in the Documents part of the iCloud thing, it should do.
If you see it just in the backup part...no.
It just means that if you RESTORE the WHOLE backup, you will have the game with the save, at the date of the backup.

PERSONAL RANT: As Apple already store individually app's data in the whole backup...I always wondered why in the world they had a SEPARATE iCloud documents thing.
As they already had the data in the backup...they could support 'iCloud sync' for EVERY APP.
Or, if not iCloud sync between devices because of space restrictions, at least allow us to pull once data from cloud in a installed app.
This would solve immediately at least the problem 'I want to delete this big game but I do not want to lose the save for possible future expansions' in games that doesn't support iCloud by their own.

I never udnerstood why Apple took that (convoluted) route.

My personal number one wish for future iOS is that they solve precisly that problem, and they already have everything set (since a year, actually).

I even noticed that if you delete an app from iPhone, the data part of it store in the iCloud backup survives even several successive backups (without the app installed)..but if you resintall it, it doesn't pull the data (obviously).

They can always improve the system, and I hope one day we have a really flexible on the fly upload/download of cloud saves (we do already technically, but it's dependant on developers developers..). From Apple's current position, they've already provided a simple answer with the current iCloud Documents & Data solution. It would be convoluted doing it the way you ask from a backup perspective (actual backups of data vs a save game manager). They would have to fundamentally alter the way that backups are handled which I think is the wrong way to go (I want my backups ''stored in a drawer'' inaccessible to tampering unless I need to reinstall).

Maybe we can get an iCloud Documents & Data Manager app Apple? That can access all installed apps' 'Documents' folders and upload/download those to and from the cloud? Jailbreakers can do that so if anything steal that feature. That'd be sweet. :)

I know the idea of tempering with backup data is scary...but it could be just a PULL from the backup.
Maybe an Apple thing, inside the settings.
You already can go inside the icloud backup and see individual data.
I understand what you say...and yes...in a ideal world ALL developers would develop Universal apps with iCloud data enabled....but unfortuntaley it's not the case nor Apple seems that willing to enforce this too much.
My idea (or anything similar) would bypass completely the devs...Apple would provide a cloud repository for ALL data apps which we can 'fill' when backup and PULL at will (or at install time).

To me, any solution is fine...I just want to be able to delete that 2 Gb game I completed and reinstall it maybe in 6 months when the developer decide to publish a big update on it without losing my save, even if the game doesn't support iCloud.
I know technically Apple already provides this...and many devs are actually supporting this, but not all unfortunately.
It's rocket science or they just aren't aware it's a thing useful to gamers.

Hironically...people who want this most are (paying) hardcore gamers, those who buy several over 1 Gb apps...so the problem of filling their devices and having to install/disintall apps is all theirs.

I generally have not the problem...because I keep my backlog very small but there are many 'potentially updatable with new content' game son my devices I would gladly get rid of, just for keeping my springboard clean :p

I think this is an area where Apple could really improve.
They were among the first top player to have cloud saves...now everything else is keeping up and they seem just uninterested in the matter.
