Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

OMG. So sad to see a consumer attach emotion to brand. That and I don't see any tears. Will buy one at that price though :)
I don't say he cried millions of tears in front of everyone. If you look at him you can see that he is definitely fighting holding back though. The initial proud smile and then the swallow and all that. A sad man looks exactly like this, except it was a happy moment.

And just that you know, I probably won't buy a PS4 at launch. I'm merely observating and I can relate. I think it is pretty touching. That doesn't mean I love Sony to death. I just like them, because they found risky stuff. Once enough comes out I will buy a PS4 for the games. If they tried to pull DRM on me, I would have told them to fuck off.

I'd be crying too if I kicked the guy who's been bullying me for eight years right in the nuts.
lol

Didn't saw anything on Tretton, but he was as happy as a man probably can be. House was pretty fucking close though. Rewatched his segment and noticed it immediately. He really had to fight to stay on script. Just look at his facial expressions and the proud smile after the price announcement.

Yeah. I went back on my Tretton tearing up thing, I rewatched it and can see that was the case, but he still has the proudest smile possible during that section (added the image to a previous post).

So, it starts at 1PM Eastern tomorrow but do we know if the pre-show starts at that time or if the conference itself starts then?

Tretton told a friend at E3 "We've worked since 2007 to get that applause." It did mean a lot to them. We forget there are humans there but Sony took a beating during the early PS3 days (rightfully so) - they took a beating financially as well - and they worked really hard to turn it around. To have something tangible - like insane cheering - to show that your hard work paid off has to be an emotional experience. Even for vets like Tretton.

I wonder where Tretton was at SCEA in 1995. He's said he's attended every E3. The announcement really played out like the "$299" for the PS1.

Well, Sony has already said that there will be some new games announced so I'm not sure what all the belly-aching is about. Let's wait to see what those new games are and then let the complaining begin forthwith.

I get chills every time I re-watch this part of E3. The way the crowd reacted to the price and how Andrew House had a genuine smile on his face cannot be replicated. Same way Tretton had to pause after each used games/DRM announcement to let the cheering fade away. Pretty amazing.

It was powerful, shocking, and genuine. I felt honestly in that moment like I was watching history being created. I still think that. Not the message, but the moment. Regardless of one's feelings and allegiances, there is no doubt that Sony's E3 2013 presser--those moments in particular--was a historic moment in the gaming industry.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.

Must be still weird to realize later that much of that applause was because they literally did or changed nothing.

Nevertheless, that's also an achievement considering how easy it could have been for a console being developed by a company with huge media involvement and many entertainment products to be more media-focused than gaming-focused. So, good job.

Being in the audience during that moment was mindblowing. I don't think I've ever experienced anything like it.

Nailed it.

I don't know why people have to be so callous as to think that just because (yes) businesses want money, the individuals within corporations don't have the same complicated emotional and aspirational landscapes as the rest of us.

I feel the same way. I know someday, 10, 15, 20 years from now when there's a retelling of this generation, that E3 will definitely be included. A moment like that mixed with Internet chatter was able to drastically change the DNA of a competitor's console. Never would have something been possible before.

I hope I can attend an E3 like this year's someday in my life. If not E3, then a more wide scale event like Gamescom.

Not crying, but fighting back tears of joy.

agreed. Sony has been through alot this gen. two that stand out is that massive hack that shut down PSN for weeks, and the tsnami that hit japan. How can he not get choked up when the fans showed so much love at this year's E3.

just my humble opinion on the matter.

Those looks like tears of nervousness more than tears of joy.

With absolutely zero context maybe. There was no reason for him to be nervous. That moment is taken from right after the price was announced. He's responding to the audience reaction.

I mean, is it really that hard to believe that House might be experiencing an overwhelmingly proud moment?

Except for being in front of thousands of people (hundreds of thousands via livestream) and making one of the biggest announcements in his company's history? I'm not saying he wasn't feeling other things, but he looks pretty damn nervous there.

Yeah I was. It was deafening in person.

And so another post to the tinnitus thread is added.

So true. As if the moment wasn't dramatic enough, the response of Microsoft after was a reflection of the effect that moment had. (Even if one cites preorders, I view the overwhelming enthusiasm of consumers as significantly as a response to Sony's E3 performance. That's when word really got out past the hardcore.)

My favorite footage of that was when they showed the crowd and people were standing up and cheering and you see Hip Hop Gamer in the middle of it screaming his fucking head off holding up that wrestling belt. It's absurd and awesome all at once.

I'm serious when I say I don't think you're really exercising the extent of human empathy if that's how you think someone would respond in that moment. I'm not trying to insult you, honestly, I just think overwhelming pride and joy are the clear human response to that situation.

Someone fighting tears of nerves and fighting back (nervous?) smiles as they're being showered with praise and adoration, and when they know the world is on their side and screaming "Yes!" simply doesn't make sense. It just doesn't. :/

I saw that, too! Yelling "Sony" over and over again, really shows you how passionate he is about gaming.

That would be truly wild and I've no doubt it would set the crowd shouting. That said, I don't believe a date that early would happen.

I hope Sony plans on bringing their A game tomorrow because based on the other rumors floating around, MS is going to make some serious announcements. Lack of show or not, MS will get the press lime-light if Sony doesn't push it.

And then you watch videos people made with their smartphones and see how loud the cheering really was and how people like HipHopGamer reacted. Really was Twilight Princess reloaded.

I've never watched that reaction vid... wow. I love moments like these! The hype!!! My favorite was obviously FFXV one. Even KH (I'm not a huge KH fan) but after seeing the reaction I kinda wanna try it!

the best part about that was that it was infectious, everyone else starting cheering loudly too :p
