Any expectations for anything could be frustrated. But if people aren't allowed to look forward to things, why even bother living? I'm not interested in Kill la Kill myself, because I dislike Imaishi, but I wouldn't try to stop others from being excited for it.

We clearly have differing philosophies about things.

For people for whom Gurren Lagann is their favorite anime, it makes sense to be intensely looking forward to a new project from the same creative team.

Exactly. All I'm hoping for is for this show to have the same energy as Gurren Lagann along with an amazing OST. From what I've seen of the previews, I think we'll be okay.

I haven't noticed till today that Amazon Instant Video has a good amount of Anime shows (Clannad, Princess Tutu, HSOD etc) on there

Are you sure it exists? I sure don't see it in the OP...

I do.

CR - Diabolik Lovers - 12:00pm PDT

Attack on Titan is hardly the worst anime of the year, we live in a world where Diabolik Lovers exists.

Diabolik Lovers gave us these amazing images, that automatically disqualifies it from worst status.

I like evil/ant-hero Kikyo better then Yandere Kikyo. I also enjoyed seeing everyone's personal illusion hell, especially Kagome's where all that's wrong is her heart throb is in love with a dead women.

Something less over the top then the anime that is going to save anime, though I suspect that one is tongue in cheek. Some of the GAF hyper seems to be that earnestly hyperbolic though.

Mine's not hyperbolic. I've loved every PV and Gurren Lagann is my favorite anime of all time, so I think my hype is warranted even if I doubt it will dethrone TTGL.

Upon seeing your reply I actually thought of another work of animation that sort of fits that model - Mamoru Oshii's Angel's Egg. If you haven't seen it, it's slightly over an hour's worth of foreboding & atmospheric religious allegory charting the process by which faith is shaken and destroyed by doubt in a world suffocated by extremism. Beyond the fascinating nature of the movie itself, as an extremely uncommercial but beautifully produced (the art & animation were headed by Yoshitaka Amano) film with a necessarily limited audience in the highly commercialized world of anime, it's hard not to read the film as a very personal expression of a devastating religious crisis had by the director: he was in his youth a devout Christian, to the point of training for priesthood, before something shattered his faith and led eventually to his drastic career shift into animation.

What mostly comes to mind are the independent auteur projects produced by Art Theatre Guild, a production company that ran from the 60s to the 80s with a goal of distributing & sometimes financing films outside of the major studios in Japan and which constituted much of Japan's underground cinema of the time. You can read about them in an extensively detailed, though somewhat dry, article at Midnight Eye if you desire; as for intensely personal and uncompromised visions with something of the auteur poured into them, as I believe unites your two examples above, the most immediate example I can think of would be Shuji Terayama's Pastoral: To Die in the Country, which is also coincidentally available on Youtube, or perhaps something like the grotesque Blind Beast or the kaleidoscopic mockumentary/parody Funeral Parade of Roses (also distributed by ATG, and on YT.)

Ah yes, Angel's Egg. I first read about it when I stumbled upon Jexhius' Angel's Egg thread early last year and saw your post. I was immediately sold on it. However, you must forgive me for my transgressions because I have still never seen any of Oshii's work, let alone Angel's Egg. What makes things worse is that I'm absolutely sure I would love the GitS movies, Patlabor, and most likely Angel's Egg too. I really need to make a point to see Angel's Egg before the end of the year at the very least.

Thanks for the other recommendations as well! The Midnight Eye article looks to be right up my alley, and I'll make sure to look into the other films you mentioned as well.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
You can't trust him.

He harps about syfy all the time but he hasn't even watched LOGH.

InuYasha 34

InuYasha vs Sessohmaru fights are always the highlights of the series, and they're finally teasing InuYasha's main attack the Wind Scar.

ITT firehawk finishes RKB but not Utena

it's like he wants to make me cry and break our nakamaship into pieces ;-;
Its easier to follow new stuff than to do a backlog. Hence why I am watching this presumably turdy season of glee. Well, that and to see what they do with Montieth.

I tried. The opening was just silly. Also, I watched Tytania so that counts!

Why did I even bother to mention the Gundam news in my earlier post, I wonder, if it would just get ignored...

Anyway, they posted the trailer as a YouTube embed streaming with subtitles on Gundam.info, which they didn't so for AGE, so who knows what they'll do for the series.

Diabolik Lovers is easily among the pantheon of most reprehensible and depraved anime after a mere two episodes; rape fantasy is not unknown to anime but I think that this is the first I've ever seen where the viewer is supposed to self-insert as the person being raped. I thought abuse fetish fujoshit was just a joke in Watamote, but no; it's very, very real.

I'm watching School Days because somehow it came up in the Gundam OT. Currently watching episode 6.
Is Makoto for real? He's either the best or worst anime character ever I don't even know. Does he have to meet a quota of 4 tits touched per day and if he fails that he dies?
The fact that he masturbated at least 20 times over touching Katsuragi's boob is unsettling. But not as unsettling as nearly raping Sekai on the school roof and then proceeding to fondle her ass at the pool while Katsuragi could full well be watching. Guy has the balls to grope every hot girl around him but can't even tell Katsuragi that he's not that interested in her because she hasn't put out after a week of such painful endeavours for poor Makoto such as having to endure not doing whatever he wants with her. Is this character supposed to resemble some human being or was he made to be some anime caricature of lust incarnate?

The beginning in retrospect makes even less sense. "It was love at first sight" vs the reality of "not getting to soak my snout in a week = it's over, babe."

Aw yeah, finally Kuroko's second season.
When I was in Kobe, I was surprised how big the doujinshi part of it is, though.

...

Nadeko Medusa, part two (Bakemonogatari): jailbait.

Well, they do call it space opera.
Sure, but the one counter to that would be how Yamato 2199 turned out. It's been explained to me that the battles in LOGH are just WW2 battles in space, but when you start getting into what seems like absurd numbers, it is just a bit much to process.

Of course, MLP also suffered a similar problem inasmuch as its giant fleets together smashing each other in 2D for some reason, but at least the scale wasn't needlessly big.

LoGH openings are the best openings.
Sorry, I meant the actual opening episode, not the OP as it were. Silly anime nomenclature!

Well we know how this is going to go down.

I'm guessing I won't have the surprise the luckier ones had. I'm well aware that some
murdering
will go down.

But I hope I'm wrong, I'm hoping that it'll leave a strong impression later on. So far trudging through this shit for the bad romance stuff has not been the greatest. Makoto just pisses me off. No one can treat a girl like that.

Oh, yeah the start felt a bit like a crawl for me as well. And now I don't want to finish it because then it'll be over. Just seven episodes left...

School Days 6

"Let's tell Katsura about us." - Sekai
"What for?" - Makoto

I wanna smack that fucker with a tire iron.

Rin is adorable, glad to see Sesshomaru warming up to a human in this show. Also the new guy with his wolves seems like a jerk, who lets their wolves devour people?

Infinite Stratos: 11 & 12 (END)

Well, that was certainly a fun show. Very good show, actually. Kinda surprised about that. Well developed characters given the show length. All the IS battles were very fun to watch. And of course, the Harem lives on...
Well i advise you to watch the OAVs for a bit more of fun.

Only a few more days until our dream team unites.
I want the clear file even.

No puzzle can resist this trio lol

I'm hyped, but I still haven't had a chance yet today to sit down and find out if I can watch it from where I am, because it's Monday and school and stuff. But I'll look into it when I get the chance.

I thought I'd post this for all you C3 Bu fans.
Yes all 2 of you!
Edit: Spec Ops: The line spoilers if that wasn't clear from the video title.

Princess Tutu is 2 arcs.
Ah, I thought that since they'd split it in 3 seasons they were also doing 3 arcs but I guess not.

sonicmj1 tells me its the greatest net anime ever :p
It's the Evangelion of out times.

My memories will not allow me to forget......
I'm sure this could all be arranged...

Firehawk doesn't watch old series I thought we all concluded.

I second this request.

Masochism is a thing so rape fantasies of the sort shouldn't really surprise you.
Infact, just look at the Monster Girl Quest series of games for the same thing from a male perspective.

Is this character supposed to resemble some human being or was he made to be some anime caricature of lust incarnate?
My theory is that
Makoto is the karmic residue left by every other asexual harem lead all manifested into one character. It makes sense really.

So basically, Rikka was like any other baby.... a crybaby. Meanwhile Mana wasn't, she was always styling and profiling... which was a problem when she started walking, and almost hurt herself from jumping off of a jungle gym. She has problems. Although that being said, the fact that they had to explain what she was like being a baby, it felt like it took time away from what was suppose to be a Rikka episode (since she got the power up).

Ai crying made the Trio power up with darkness, which is no good, the reason for that is in the next episode preview ಠ_ಠ

Anywho, over nigh, both Mana and Rikka took care of her... in Mana's house. somethingsomethingmanarikkaotpsomething

Also, the new stock footage for individual Cures. Well... I think it's safe to say that Toei really ran out of ideas. I mean if THREE TIMES, everyone's new ability is just a fucking binding ability but with a different element, I'm pretty sure it's stating that they're not even trying anymore. I mean holy shit, can't even g excited over new stock footage since it's the same thing. Also, why do we have stock footage for making baby toys and milk appear, it's a gigantic waste of time. Also Princess Ange finally exists again.

Koga is a huge freaking hypocrite, he starts the episode saying it's okay for his wolves to eat humans because "they need to eat too" and he protects them with the power of his sacred jewel shards. Yet he needs Kagome's help because his wolves are being eaten by bird demons who have a sacred jewel shard and it "will lead to our destruction"... like the whole villages you've destroyed to get jewel shards and feed your wolves

Speaking of Inuyasha I have to say that Sesshomaru's character, is one of the best things to have in a shounen anime/manga. Not his backstory or who he is, but what he does during the anime. All he does is
just walk around the land and does his own thing, added with the fact that he's strong so whenever he sees an enemy that it's cool to see what he does.

I'm not sure about whether I liked Inuyasha, but Sesshomaru was the best. Just a powerful guy
roaming around the land to give some nice time away from the main characters, and watch him destroy demons or people in his way more easier then Inuyasha's group.
It was always cool to see
Inuyasha struggle with an enemy and then Sesshomaru comes up right behind him and brush off the enemy like he's nothing.

Just the idea of a strong
wanderer
in anime's always gets me hyped. Sesshomaru, Hisoka (HxH), and Kamui (Gintama) were all my favorite's for this reason.

School Days 7

So when I thought that Setsuna would at least get the ball rolling on making it clear to Makoto that he should man the fuck up and tell Katsuragi what's up she instead goes on to continue the passive-aggressive act with more aggression thrown in. I feel bad for Katsuragi, she is either really daft or really deep in denial.

Oh and the only moment that Makoto throws any attention at her is when she is reduced to walking around the school with a wet shirt. "When I see her like this, she is really.." what? Thinking of swapping girls again there for a second? You lowlife trash.
"It's not good to just leave her alone." - he says as if he's hypnotized by a seethrough shirt. Except that he's been leaving her alone for the past four episodes. Forgetting the horrors of not getting any for a week there, Makoto? Is your brain made of sawdust and viagra?

Oh, now he's thinking about wanting to maybe not be a total monster to Katsuragi? This is one switch you can't flick at will and you sure as hell are not manipulative and cunning enough to date two girls at once, Makoto. Spouting stupid excuses at Katsuragi when she came to his door was embarrassing to watch and the only thing you succeeded at was pissing off two girls at once. This man is a failure at everything. His only goal in this world is to jam it in and I doubt he can even figure that out without pissing off a realdoll.

What any of these girls manage to find attractive in Makoto is a god damned mystery. This no good sleazeball is just as bad, if not worse, than Tsukune from Rosario to Vampire. I've seen only the anime of that but now that was a shitty MC.

Katsuragi bitchslapped Sekai. A fitting punishment.

that's probably because it's a visual novel, they're all about self insert pretty much, with different contexts of course.

don't image search on the game >.< that is if you don't want to see more 'biting'
