Amazon greenlits Warhammer 40,000 shows and movies

You literally said it shouldn’t be critical and never said preach. It should absolutely 100% be critical of the darkest possible future for humanity.

Anyways, I think we both want it to be a great show and are generally in agreement that it should be extremely dark.

Critical of the Imperium?

That sounds like heresy...........

He’s a Custodes player, right? I could see him playing one of them.
He was at least. Not sure if he still is. It’s a pretty great army though. If he runs a Valdor mini, I’d bet money that’s his goal. It makes sense too. Valdor was there during the unification wars, fought during the heresy, and is going to play an important part in what is going down in the current age. It’s not too big but still hits on every timeline and is a near unstoppable force bested only by the primarchs and the emperor.

It will be Eisenhorn though, or maybe Loken.

I think they’re waiting on Abnett to finish Pandemonium, which is the book that reintroduces Valdor into the current continuity. Henry’s most likely to want to play him. Can easily see them spinning a whole new Valdor canon series off what Pandemonium establishes. Lots of room for flashback stories too.

They can so easily tell canon accurate new stuff. No need to adapt existing stories.

Even with Cavill on board, I have no faith in this after what Amazon did to the Rings of Power.

Rings Of Power was Jennifer Salke’s prize baby, and was run mostly out of the US of Amazon Studios. 40K should be run out of the UK office, and they’re a lot more sensible there.

That would be utterly fantastic. Lots of ways to go on that.

Hmm.... Warhammer 40K is poised to become a major IP aimed at a larger mainstream audience and only a few months later the fan base is angry because lore changes are made to appeal better to modern audiences. One of those changes is that Costodes, an elite super space marine force that had always been male only can now also have females. It's s minor change in the lore book, but it's angered part of the fan base who see this as another attack by progressives who don't care at all about Warhammer but nevertheless demand changes.

We'll see what this change (and the addition to female Space Marines and Brothers of Battle) do to sales.

Here is what I think will happen.

The 40K Amazon project will shadow drop female Marines and Brothers of Battle. As a lot of people watching this won't be too familiar with the lore or table top game, they'll be on board with this from day one. This will gage more interest in the table top game, forcing GW to make the models to go with it and change the lore to make it fit. This will then increase sales and GW will make 40K even more progressive to satisfy an huge new global audience.

I motioned in the official 40K thread that this change could have some very interesting lore changes. For example, a female and male marine raw dogging and one of them becoming pregenetic, which would help increase the number of Space Marines, especially if the "baby" Marines come out of the womb fully formed and ready for combat.

Space marines have their sex drives entirely removed during the enhancement process, so this wouldn’t happen. They can’t have children either. You’d have to majorly alter the whole process… which I can’t see them doing. Won’t stop sexually frustrates weirdos drawing pictures of it on Deviantart though.

I don’t actually think female space marines would have any real major ramifications on the wider lore. They’d look, act and even sound just like their male equivalents.

This is where a lore change comes in. If the lore can be changed to create female space marines, it can be changed for them to reproduce. It makes perfect sense as well as it means the Imperium could quickly boost Space Marine numbers by natural methods.

Space marines wouldn't give birth to more space marines. There's a whole series of gene seed objects they get inserted into them to turn them into an Astartes. They can't be created naturally. They all start as adolescent young men. You're not just talking about a few lore alterations, you're talking about an entirely different thing altogether.

And they'd never run out of human kids to turn. There are quadrillions of people in the Imperium.

It's never going to happen. There will never be female Space Marines. And as mentioned above even if they did the process wouldn't work that way. The lore also implicitly sets a hard limit on numbers of space Marines due to the codex astartes. You can only have 1,000 Space Marines under a single chapter master. Runaway creation of Space Marines would destroy that.

Also the Custodes are not the same thing as Space Marines. A female custodes existing does not mean there are female Space Marines.

Your mention of the brothers of battle also tells me that you either haven't read very many Warhammer books or you have forgotten a lot of what you've read.

There can be no Brothers of battle because the Sisters of Battle existing in the way that they do is specifically to circumvent a loophole in imperium law that says the church may not have MEN under arms. The Sisters are the military arm of the ecclesiarchy. Everything about their lore from top to bottom is about them being female only. Allowing Brothers of Battle wouldn't be a small change like the one that's happened to the custodes. It would upend the entire purpose of the faction.

Plus here already are brothers of battle. They're called The Imperial Guard.

It just sounds like you're trying to reach for the most outlandish predictions of "wokeism" And speak them into existence rather than there being any speck of proof that they are even in the motions of doing it.

Relax. I'm not trying to reach peak "wokeism". I'm suggesting ways GW could take the IP when it becomes more popular. If I wanted to go peak woke I'd suggest the Imperium becoming a socialist democracy, working with some Xeno factions for the better of mankind etc.

This is a fantasy game where the lore has changed many times. Look how much it's changed since Rogue Trader (1st edition). Female space marines can be written into lore. As can Brothers of Battle.

Anyway, GW won't go that far, so you have nothing to worry about.

Edit. I regret posting these ideas. The world isn't ready for them yet. I'll step out this thread

This will ONLY WORK if the baby has to claw its way from the corpse of the mother. The mom is knocked up, the fetus gestates for a few months, then goes into suspended hibernation. Then, then the mom is killed in battle, the fetus awakes, burrows its up into the chest cavity of the mother, grabs hold of her spinal cord, then uses her animated dead body as battle armor to finish the fight.

How is that a minor change? Why is anyone bothered by there only being male super soldiers?

'Cause that has always been the lore.

Combat units and armies have been exclusively male for THOUSANDS of years across HUNDREDS of cultures. It's practically universal.

An army having females is usually a specific reaction/act of desperation or a cultural practice (the entire tribe fights, etc). Or it's an alien species without the sexual dimorphism or breeding practices of humans. There are female fighters, and there are female fighters in other species. But some units were historically male and to try to gaslight folks that it wasn't the case is bs.

I meant minor in the sense of the change being just a few words in the lore book.

Sorry... are you trying to say that there aren't females in combat units in 40k?

I assume not, given that there are many, many women in many combat units in the 40k universe.

Femstodes really aren't problematic when it comes to the 40k lore at all.

I'm saying if there are units that are exclusively male it's A ok, B. plenty of real world examples so it's not an unrealistic thing, and C. There ARE females in the lore elsewhere, so no need to retcon them into places.

It's OK to have male only spaces. It's ok.

Fair enough.

Frankly, I'm not really bothered one way or the other. I've been used to seeing women in every other 40k Imperial army, so the Imperium clearly isn't against chicks getting slaughtered alongside the dudes. Stands to reason there wouldn't be an issue with having female custodians.

Hopefully, this will be newb friendly. I've always been intrigued by the warhammer 40k universe but it seems daunting to get into. I love the aesthetic. I think I've asked this before but does anyone have a YouTube guy or something they can recommend to explain warhammer like I'm 5?

One of those AI video generators could definitely sum up WH40k as a 70/80s sitcom opening song.

This guy is easily my favourite 40k YouTuber, as he's pretty laid back, and doesn't do the whole stupid clickbait thumbnail shit.

I hope we can finally get Custodes with Down syndrome. I feel like it's time that Warhammer 40K becomes inclusive to all people. The lore can be changed at a whim, so I don't see any problems with representation.
