Not GTA.Way too big of a risk and gamble to bet only on one game franchise.
I am simplifying things but Activision in terms of revenue is very similar. I don't think the premium is going to be less than 30% especially given that there are very few players left at the size.
The one major difference is the margin of Activision is in the high 20% and EA is around 15-20%.
Do you have an estimate of how much it would be?
Sony acquisitions affect PC sales though. They have that weird 2-3 years stalled release going for all their 1st party games. The only time they release on PC day 1 is if it’s a third party exclusive.
I hope they keep their organic growth strategy instead.
they have 13 to 18b to invest in 3 years..and they have other pillar divisions ...sony music - Sony pictures - Funimation and then Sony interactive entertainment..in this we are keeping out the R&D expenses of the sensors department, tv, etc. etc. That's just nonsense

lets say we count just 3 divisions....from 4 to 6b per division in 3 years ....
or 1.something to 2b
The total M&A cash is 24b.....Sony just can't buy EA Sony can't buy T2...Embracer or Bandai Namco ....they could risk everything for square ..Sega or stuff like that but i doubt other divisions let SIE do it
Yup. This is what they've always done, what they should do and what I believe they will do.Waste of money. Just grow their studios and buy small one turn them into something great like they did with their key studios
I think Sony doesn't need and doesn't want to buy EA, Ubisoft or Take Two. And that they don't need and don't want to sell their companies to anyone.
Sony will continue with the acquisitions, but in companies or studios that will help them grow in areas where they want to expand and there is people that do it way better than their 1st party teams or in areas that their current 1st party doesn't already cover. Or that may may help their current 1st party studios to delegate some work (as it would be making mobile game adaptations of their game). And well, companies that have a relatively long experience on working on PS exclusives.
I see Sony buying someone big in mobile gaming or PC F2P in the main Asian (China, Korea, Rusia, India) markets where they want to grow. Or maybe some other art outsourcing (every generation AAA games require way more people and time, so they need more manpower and outsourcing studios are saturated and difficult to hire because aren't available but instead constantly busy with projects from different companies). Or some specific gamedev studio who previously made exclusives for them and that may help them to grow or improve in some areas not very well covered by their 1st partty studios and where they may want to grow: PSVR, F2P Gaas, fighting games rpg.
Sony doesn't need to buy a big game publisher, they don't need big IPs or a lot of important gamedev studios because already have them. And are market leaders on their main markets, which is selling (both 1st and 3rd party) games and services for their consoles, so obviously selling consoles too.
Yeah they have some big well known I.Ps, but their value I feel comes from their sports franchises, which would stay multi.EA get them BioWare (and the Mass Effect and Dragon Age IPs), Battlefield, Command and Conquer, and The Sims. Those are pretty huge IPs that can be great in the right hands.
Sony can afford things that can afford ...they certainly can't afford to buy 30b companiesM&A don't need to be done through cash-only deals. Don't know why this needs to keep being said. It's about time to drop this nonsense that Sony can't afford anything.
They wouldn't be risking everything acquiring Square or Capcom don't know what the hell you're talking about there, nor does Sony need any approval from the other divisions to make a big acquisition like that.
No. God please no. Complete waste.
Both Ubisoft and Take 2 are cheaper and have FAR better franchises.
Fuck EA
Unless Sony can do something worthwhile with the Mass Effect franchise.
Sony can afford things that can afford ...they certainly can't afford to buy 30b companies
Sony would never be interested in buying something that would be multi platform, let alone get on xbox.1- It's not $70B, it's $37B.
2- FIFA makes more than $1B/year just from MTX. Let alone Madden.
3- There are plenty of massive IP's within EA's sleaves.
4- This is a cheap rumor.
Its gonna be square. Look how many exclusives they are making for sony.
I know but that's this whole threadAny number I give would just be pure conjecture.
It will never happen, because just as Major League Baseball just showed last year, major sports want to be represented on all platforms. MLB the Show is a SONY 1st party game, now on Xbox and Gamepass. .Because it's the biggest game in gaming history? It's profitable regardless of platform and it's a stable on nearly every house.
This is not gonna happen but if it happens it's a massive buy and a guaranteed ROI.
I wonder how much Tim’s piece of Epic would cost.
- you own Fortnite
- you control UE
- you have a bunch of publishing deals in place
- you have an established PC launcher
- you own Rocket League and their devs
Seems like a much better use of money than fucking Square and their 500 billion dollar games that take 10 years to make. Only issue is Tencent owns 40% but you could still get a controlling stake.
For reference, Unity's market cap is 28bn so go up from there.I wonder how much Tim’s piece of Epic would cost.

Of course, this is just purely speculation, however this could be worth taking a look at in case this does happen in a while.
We don't need an analyst to tell us the obvious. EA is worth more then its market value just like Activision/Blizzard is. Sony would need to pay a similar amount for EA, which puts them out of that price range. MS also wouldn't drop another 80 billion so soon for an EA. Interesting thought however on Disney buying EA. Now that I could see happening and ESPN would fit well in the the sports games they make. However that would be a very big purchase outside of Disney's regular business.
As a main Playstation user, would be disastrous for me if Capcom/SE/Sega (persona/SMT >.< ) bought by Microsoft or other mega corporations and Playstation no longer access to the IP.
Yeah, EA is a bad purchase. The NFL and Fifa could do the same thing as MLB and demand their licensed games remain multi platform. Sony lost out on The Show and the same thing could happen here. Why though. You'd be mainly buying the rights to make sports games and they're all multi platform anyway. And then there's Apex but that's multi too.
For that money you could buy T2, Ubi and Capcom. And have plenty left over. EA is a bad purchase.
You don’t really know what you’re talking about. Sounds more like wishful thinking and fear that they take something away from your favorite platform.looking at their cash...divisions and how they usual spend the Is no reality where Sony spend more than 1 - 1.5b acquiring someone
people should keep their feet on the ground
Nah, it sounds more like your wishful thinking that Sony will acquire someone in the same league as Activision. Based on what though? All the acquisitions Sony has made have been tiny. They don't have the cash to make a major acquisition. You don’t really know what you’re talking about. Sounds more like wishful thinking and fear that they take something away from your favorite platform.
But I've heard it's very difficult for a non Japanese company to buy a Japanese company, no? So SE and Capcom ain't happeninglol @ buying EA .
Most of their games are just licensed games .
Unless they want them for battlefield and need for speed. Which neither are worth the price of ea
Can Sony even stupid EA ?
Just buy or merge capcom. Makes more sense and cheaper than ea
And Sony would also pay a premium for EA or anyone else no?Microsoft paid a premium. Not what Activision thought they were actually worth. That's why it's called a premium.
And they would pay a significant amount for that? Yes, IP are valuable, but for games that have no popularity today? Nah. Anyone that would buy EA would buy them for their sports games and for Battlefield. The sports games are all licensed and EA could lose them or the various sports leagues could require EA to release their games on multiple platforms and Battlefield has lost a ton of goodwill with its most recent offering. EA does not seem like a good target for either Microsoft or Sony.EA has a lot of IP's outside of what they release today and sports titles.
Sony's preference for single player games could revive some of EA greats that they given up on in the past for Multiplayer games with MT's
And Sony would also pay a premium for EA or anyone else no?
I never said it was a good idea, I'd prefer Square Enix or Capcom or even better buy Konami's IP's off them. And they would pay a significant amount for that? Ok. A premium is a premium and more than likely shareholders would be wanting as much as possible.Sure but that could be in any range
Isn't the Playstation division headquartered in California or something? Yes, Sony is Japanese but an American division would be operating this Japanese company? I don't think so. Japan would never let that fly. So no Capcom or SE. Rule it out now.Eh? Sony is a Japanese company
