Ok. A premium is a premium and more than likely shareholders would be wanting as much as possible.
Right but my point was the premium has nothing to do with market value

Isn't the Playstation division headquartered in California or something? Yes, Sony is Japanese but an American division would be operating this Japanese company? I don't think so. Japan would never let that fly. So no Capcom or SE. Rule it out now.
You serious? But I've heard it's very difficult for a non Japanese company to buy a Japanese company, no? So SE and Capcom ain't happening
Well, PS has a huge catalog an each player is fan of different games or companies. In my case, I don't give a fuck about Zenimax, Activision, EA, Take 2, Ubisoft or Square Enix and most modern Sega games. In my case it only would affect me with Capcom and in a few cases (specially with ancient, unused IPs) Sega. But obviously I'd prefer to keep having all them there. As a main Playstation user, would be disastrous for me if Capcom/SE/Sega (persona/SMT >.< ) bought by Microsoft or other mega corporations and Playstation no longer access to the IP.
They 100% could afford Ubi and Capcom. T2 is the big question.Yeah, EA is a bad purchase. The NFL and Fifa could do the same thing as MLB and demand their licensed games remain multi platform. Sony lost out on The Show and the same thing could happen here.
They couldn't afford any of these companies to be honest though.
Of course. Both Sony or Microsoft would pay a premium for EA.Right but my point was the premium has nothing to do with market value
What the hell would Sony gain from purchasing Capcom or Square?naaaa, they'd rather purchase Capcom, Square or from software. EA is fucking dead without Fifa.
Hate to disappoint some, but it will cost Sony a lot more than people think. The price won't be EA's marketshare, it will be much higher. What's more, it's guaranteed unlike Microsoft, U.S. regulators would block the EA deal. Less of a chance of blocking the Take Two deal, but I believe that, too, would be blocked. Sony is in a more dominant position in the gaming market than Microsoft is, and everybody knows that. Them acquiring EA or Take Two would definitely be considered a horizontal style merger because despite Microsoft still chipping away with Xbox for a few gens now, they're still not seen as a "gaming company" the same way Sony and Playstation is synonymous with gaming.
Microsoft's top business is nowhere close to being gaming. In fact, they have numerous business that outperform gaming. For Sony, however, their strongest performing business for many years now has been the Playstation business. Yes, they have a successful financial services business, but Playstation is what they are most known for, all things that would work against them with U.S. regulators. Not just that, Microsoft's lobbyists would almost certainly behind the scenes be against the move, further tipping the scales against Sony and this deal.
Sony has a much better shot at getting Ubisoft that's headquartered in France, but EA and Take Two will definitely be a no go. This isn't just a regulatory matter, but a political one also, and Microsoft has a lot of political influence over here in America. Plus on a pure regulatory basis, Sony is seen as the undisputed industry leader. It's much more difficult for them to acquire a major player like EA or Take Two than it is for Microsoft, whose gaming business is seen as well behind Sony's own, to acquire an even bigger fish like Activision Blizzard. Also, it helps Microsoft has very little presence in the mobile market. Minecraft is big, but whenever you bring up Minecraft it only serves as an example of fair play on Microsoft's part by not removing it from being sold on non Microsoft preferred platforms.
The assurance that MS is not buying them. Because MS buying those 2 (I'm shure they will) would hurt more Sony than what MS has done before. What the hell would Sony gain from purchasing Capcom or Square?
Capcom's bestselling game is on PC, Xbox, and PS and hasn't even hit twenty million. Its second bestselling game is also on all platforms and sold seven million. So how would an expensive acquisition of Capcom make sense for Sony? The assurance that MS is not buying them. Because MS buying those 2 (I'm shure they will) would hurt more Sony than what MS has done before.

What does this even mean? What is this close working relationship you speak of?as far as I'm aware they've worked with square and Capcom the closest in comparison to take-two and EA this generation.

So, you're talking about moneyhats. With all these moneyhats, if Sony could just buy the companies outright, or even wanted to, then they would have already.Have you not been paying attention? look how many exclusive deals, timed or not square has with sony? they are deals yes but they've been closely associated with sony this generation. as for Capcom, they allowed the team that developed resident evil village film on sony's mocap stage/studio.

Square would have to be defensive because sony is already getting most their big titles as timed exclusives
Capcom would be interesting but they get so much of their market value from sales on pc and switch you would be paying a ton and then crashing what makes them valuable. Could say the same about xbox and cod but at least it will stay on pc.
Individual studios like fromsoft (and maybe the entire parent company for the anime empire), bunjie (which would cover the fps gap and really hurt xbox optics wise) or cpdr (way over valued and doesn't actually own their ips but the brand recognition plus needing some wrpgs would be interesting) would be the way to go.
Most??? I can't remember a single one...Most of Square's AAA games are PS exclusives. They're already basically in bed together
Halo infinite.Most??? I can't remember a single one...

FF7R, FF16, Forspoken and the next AAA IP they're supposed to announce is meant to be PS exclusive too
FF7R is on pc and Forspoken will be too day 1. FF16, like FF7R, will almost certainly be on pc too. Not to mention TR games, Deus EX, Hitman are all under Square too...FF7R, FF16, Forspoken and the next AAA IP they're supposed to announce is meant to be PS exclusive too
Has Sony ever made any big acquisition? And by big I mean above $10 billion?

Why should we care about consoles only??? Sony buying Square could affect pc games at least not having day 1 versions anymore. And sure jam about TR and Deux EX being dead. There is also Guardians of the galaxy, Avengers...This is about the console side of things if that wasn't obvious already.
Tomb Radier and Deus Ex are dead, and Hitman is under IO interactive. Square has nothing to do with that outside of just handing them a license.

Again they are not exclusives to PS and pc ports are irrelevant maybe for the dirty peasants...Care about whatever you want. The point of the discussion is why Sony would buy Square and part of that is their relationship with most of their AAA games being PS exclusives. Whether there are PC ports involved is irrelevent.
Square Enix Europe is a failure. You're not going to see another Deus Ex from them. Avengers was a failure and only Guardians potentially did well. Again, Square Japan is where their main focus is and those guys are in bed with Sony.

If they're already in bed with Sony why the hell would Sony buy them? They already get what they need from them.Care about whatever you want. If anything maybe Microsoft will buy SE to end that incestuous relationship with Sony.
Bring on a new proper entry in dungeon keeper please and black & white.I would love Sony to buy EA. Bring on Red Alert 4! And since EA owns Bullfrog aswell I would love a theme park remaster
Fear of retaliation mode has officially beganYou don’t really know what you’re talking about. Sounds more like wishful thinking and fear that they take something away from your favorite platform.
Well they wouldn't Microsoft just outbid Sony? They have a lot more cash than SonyYou already answered your question
In general SE does have a love of making deals. They have Crystal Dynamics supporting Microsoft, and then on the Japan side of things you have the FF teams in bed with Sony and Team Asano is in bed with Nintnedo. We just need to see if the Enix side is in bed with anyone.Care about whatever you want.
