Apple makes MORE money in gaming than the Big 3 combine [Visual Capitalist]

People have been trying to say this/do this with theater movies and streaming movies. What's your reasoning for it?
to quote the thread title:
"apple-makes-more-money-in-gaming-than-the-big-3"

I assume the big 3 is MS, Sony and Nintendo.

MS, Sony and Nintendo and their "gaming" are competing for the same money (though you could say Nintendo are trying to be a little different but it's roughly the same market).

Apple and it's gaming (in fact mobile gaming in general) is it's own market. Different actual games. They are not in direct competition with the big 3.

To your point, you can watch (for example) the same movie at a theater or on netflix at home, yet you can't play (most of the time) a shovelware mobile game on your PS5/XboxX, and you certainly cant play Spider man, Halo or whatever on your phone.

Honestly comparing Apple's gaming profits with MB games' profits is almost as cogent.

What about the curated Apple arcade games that mostly end up on PC or console anyway?

what about them?
I was referencing this part of your previous post

And was wondering if this still applies to apple arcade or if that ends up as a weird in-between in your view?

legit I didnt know what apple arcade was until you told me of it's existence

what games from apple arcade ended up on PC anyway?

note: the title of this thread was regarding the big 3.

edit - off the bat it sounds like a weird in-between

Apple Arcade is their own curated list of high budget and/or high quality titles, so that you don't have to deal with the mess of app store/google play store in order to find something of quality. Quite a few of the games there usually end up being ported to consoles and/or PC after a few months on the service. I don't have a concrete list at the moment but I can find one soon and post it here.

after a little research I'd say that apple arcade IS mobile gaming.

again, curated from what? and what games made it to PC? all the games I saw were basic and not what would appeal to your typical PS5/XboxX/switch owner.

I found a small sample size example of what I'm referring to:

Quite a few of these games made it to switch/4k consoles/PC either simultaneously or being on apple arcade first for a bit.

The curation is in regards to their mobile app store, because searching for games on it is very similar to steam where there are a lot of cash grabs and asset flips on it that you would normally have to sift through to find good content.

all the games I saw were basic and not what would appeal to your typical PS5/XboxX/switch owner.
This specifically starts to veer into subjective territory and if that ends up being a big factor, then there's nothing I can present that would prove otherwise for you. 🤷‍♂️

That Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are competing isn't relevant since it is their combined profits versus Apple's profits.

as a regular console/PC player who has no interest in mobile gaming, the only game on that list I recognize is samurai jack. and not because I recognize the game.

those games may have made it to SWITCH (not PC as you posted earlier) but they were curated from their store. a mobile gaming store.

"mobile gaming" and "big 3" gaming appeal to different audiences.

Just wanted to clarify, just because the link I posted says 'switch port' doesn't mean those games were only ported to Nintendo switch. Quite a few of them are also on Steam and PS/XB when searched for.

My only case is that the lines might be a bit more blurred than we thought, and part of that is thanks to what Apple is attempting to do by bridging that gap, because these games have to also be playable on their Apple TV boxes.

I have so much fun reading this threat and watching the consoles and PC dudes crying likes virgin girls for their plastic toys than is not a dildo... this is so hilarious! 🤡 You've lost dudes, that's the state of the market. But please be mad, I'm enjoying it so much! 😂

ok. well posted.

the big 3 and apple "gaming" are almost entirely different markets, IMO.

all of apple's money coming from "gaming" is definitely mobile gaming. what you referred to earlier sounded like God of War coming to steam. what youre actually referring to is fruit ninja coming to steam (not an apple product). also fruit ninja almost certainl;y made more money on steam than any of those apple store games.

Apple may be making more money from "gaming" than the big 3 but it's not from the same market.

Again, your personal taste of each game being ported is subjective, so there's nothing I can say to prove otherwise to you specifically. If that's what it's coming down to in order to make your case, then I'll automatically have to throw in the towel and tip my hat.

Also it's nothing against you at all. I've just spent way too much time on this forum in general arguing opinion vs opinion because sometimes a person here can feel like they can change the opinion of others. It's fun conversation but a meaningless endeavor.

Who are these people playing on mobile and what is wrong with them?

Apple's economy of scale is massive. Nearly 2 billion people have an Apple device. If every person who has one spends even a palty $2 on gaming in a given year, that's 4 billion MFing dollars.

Yes, some people never even download a game on their phone once in their lives. Yes, some people are insane and spending dumbass amounts of time and money tapping away at their iPhone. Just making a point, I don't even think there needs to be THAT many batshiat crazy ppl to support these numbers, with an install base that big, who effing cares?

again, well posted.

I think I've made my point. Apple's money they make through "gaming" is not a sensible comparison to the big 3. While there will always be crossover they are targeting different consumers.

but who cares? why compare apples and oranges?

this thread is just bait for apple fans/haters.

I'm not saying anybody does or should care. You made a point that Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are "competing for the same money". I was just saying that point isn't relevant since it is taking their combined profits into consideration, not just one of them separately.

I think people will try to come up with some good counters to your point, and a big one you should consider is this:

Considering that you're sectioning off apple arcade games to be considered different, would you do the same with actual arcade games that were(and still are) being ported to consoles/PC, since they are also completely different experiences(and on the more casual side) than a standard AAA product for console/pc?

are you referring to the old capcom/konami releases? that are being released on steam etc? well they require a controller or keyboard. yes you can play knights of the round on your iphone (can you?), but i bet it sucks.

apple gaming is marketing to mobile gamers.

again, the big 3 are not. in general. there is of course some crossover.

good for apple, they make tons of money from shovelware. call it "gaming" if you want but it's a different market from the big 3. I remember people were comparing Wii game sales to x360/PS3 game sales. That makes more sense but let's be honest they were different markets.

This is apples problem though. They don't own any of this shit. Just skimming these profits from hard working developers. Luckily all this is coming to an end, with the new laws that will allow third party payment processors. Then watch apples "gaming" profits flatline.

They have 200B in hand, they could buy hard working developers if they wanted.

It's just that skimming is way easier.

You means hardcore gaming like what there is on PSN with all those app at 1$ to get some trophies... That is hardcore!

Well, box office sales are still considered very important so...

Someone streaming a film isn't necessarily even watching it all. Someone at a cinema is.

You'd have a better arguement for shows, but even then there are still many people do watch live TV transmitted over dedicated infrastructure that's not the Internet.

I blame parents.
Also feel sorry for parents. I have to hide my credit cards at home. don't feel safe in my own house.

I don't blame anyone except for the people pulling the strings. I go on buses a lot and I see a fucking insane number of people playing these games that have some sort of facile theme where you have to play a slot machine to get stuff... it's completely normalised and zoomers actually just see it as totally regular for a completely tonally inconsistent slot machine to show up in literally any fucking thing and encourage them to spend money. I saw someone on the bus before playing a game that was ostensibly about having a nice garden and then suddenly they were rolling slots with dazzling lights and sounds like an actual casino.

I'm stuck a little too because like... how braindead do you have to be to just accept this stuff? Watching the girl on the bus playing some gardening game that also is a slot machine, watching them engage with it without any hesitance, it worries me how dead people are. There's nothing going on inside the heads of like 99% of people. But I don't think that's necessary. It's how people are conditioned. And it makes me mad that we could have a literal utopia on Earth except there are sociopaths in meeting rooms brainstorming how to best divorce people from their earthly possessions.

Apple makes MORE money in gaming than the Big 3 combine

No they don't. They just don't...
They just piggyback on revenue made from Apple Store game purchases.

So they make money bacause of their own sheer greed. Has NOTHING to do with gaming specifically.

Zero investment and force developers releasing on their platform to give them 50% of all sales

Is it any wonder they are making a bucket load of money

Apple therefore benefits because the majority of people have no taste and play junk like Candy Crush, etc. I wouldn't even play if there was nothing else.
