I just had an interesting adventure buying a new car (first had a Subaru BRZ for a week, then ended up changing my mind and getting a Camaro SS... I'll have to post the story about the journey in the OT car thread).
At any rate, part of that purchase was buying a nice beater pickup truck to drive around winters and back roads here in Wisconsin.
Well, the truck I ended up getting (a babied 1992 Chevrolet Extended Cab Pickup from Arizona) has an after market JVC stereo, but it has what I can only imagine are blown factory speakers. It sounds like tin can ass in there.
I am looking at putting together a little audio system, and I need your advice.
First of all, the factory speakers are 4x6 in the dash, and 4x6 in the rear. From everything I've read online, I will end up breaking all sorts of plastic trim if I try to get at the rear speakers, so my plan right now is to just get the best 4x6 speaker I can for the front dash, and just fade the sound forward.

Then, I am looking at doing 2 12" subs under the extended cab seat. The custom boxes that are made to fit the 88-98 ext cab's all average right around 6.5" max mounting depth and offer up .90cu ft. for each woofer.
It's an old pickup that's going to be a winter/beater so I am not looking to dbdrag this thing with 4000w RMS. I am looking for something that's gonna have some decent sound for a guy who's on a budget cuz he just pissed away his life savings on a Camaro SS.

AudioPipe AP-1800D Class-D rated at 750w RMS @ 4ohms (at least as true as CEA2006 rated gets you .. and from what people say .. pretty close)
I have heard Class-D amplifiers are more efficient than Class AB, and I have also heard that they are more efficient at 4ohm than 2ohm/1ohm, so I am planning on wiring 2 DVC 4ohm so that I end up with a 4ohm load on the amp. I don't know if stressing the alternator on an older pickup with 1000w @ 1ohm is the greatest idea.
Does anyone have better suggestions on super-budget speakers/12 inch subs/amp for under $500 (+install/wires) ?
