Sounds pretty good. Although there are a couple of notes that suffer from phasing issues. 0:17 for example or 0:34. You should try detuning those notes just a bit from eachother.

Here are some helpful tips and techniques to use when sequencing NES music (or chiptunes in general)

Thanks for those... that's something I've been having trouble with but had no idea how to fix it. I think that's going to be a big help.

Edit: Cleaned those up, put the new version up at the same URL

Here's my latest Famitracker piece.

https://soundcloud.com/aswindu/brace-yourself

I know of Supercommuter but have never heard of Stenobot. I'll have to give these both a solid listen in the next few days, thanks for the recommendations!

Yeah no problem man! and yeah stenobot works in the nerdcore scene a bit and he actually makes the beats for supercommuter, its him, wheelie cyberman as the rapper, and tron juan as the producer

EDIT: also listened to your track and it's epic I love the fast past beat it gets you PUMPED! lol

24/7 Chiptunes from Digitally Imported: http://www.di.fm/chiptunes

DI is awesome. Saves my life during work. They aren't aggressive with ads either.

If you like it, please consider their subscription model. I think the website is starting to struggle and I fear the worst for them... Don't know what I'd listen to during the day without them!

Yesterday I started playing around with FamiTracker with no prior chiptunes experience apart from a couple of video game inspired songs written in a more conventional DAW. I found it a lot of fun and hopefully I'll contribute more music to this thread in the future.

Give it a spin, let me know what you think and shower me with constructive criticism!

Thumbs up! Seems really solid for a first effort.

Let's put up a few awesome things I've found recently to semi-recently:

1. Norrin Radd is back and making SNES-style music

2. Fear of Dark did a VRC6 cover of Katamari Damacy - Que Sera Sera

3. Danimal Cannon put up a new track

4. Chiptunes=Win Vol 3 released in September

4. Virt's The Mega Mermaid still kicks all kinds of ass

It seems like Famicompo is back this year. with Famicompo Pico (No idea why they skipped Micro).

Make as many entries as you want in four categories. Original (2A03 only + max 16KB DPCM), Original (No limit), Cover and the new Freestyle category (Make a Famicom inspired piece using whatever program you want).

I'll definately be entering again (I've got quite a few covers to show off this year). Hopefully a few GAF chiptuners enter as well!

if you're in Finland early november, we have our second half-chiptune-half-synthwave club night! :D

Hope this counts. Without a doubt my favourite electronic instrumentation of a classical piece, I like it even more than the soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange. It's so delightfully creepy and the Vocaloids here fit in quite well, it's just a shame he doesn't release any new videos.

Yeah, this is pretty darn cool. Thanks for sharing.

In other news, Monomer has a new album out. It's not exactly chiptunes either, but it has some chip influence. It's probably dancier than most, but it's good stuff.

I searched Youtube for a remix of Lonely Rolling Star from Katamari Damacy, and found this amazing chiptune version by DDRKirby. His whole album is awesome.

But it turns out his album is a tribute album of someone else's album, which is awesome in its own right. Chip and piano!

I never know what other people will like in terms of chiptunes, or if people want to get stuck up and say this or that doesn't qualify. I just like it and thought I would post it. :p

Rushjet released his Megaman 2 remade album yesterday! Amazing what those extra channels of sound can do to an already classic soundtrack.

You can also watch a playthrough of the game with the remade album here.

Anyone in Rochester coming to the Chipfest today? I'll be there showing off our games

That Rushjet remake is awesome.

Still gotta check out that DDRKirby stuff.

Gunstar, don't be a stranger, always more welcome here!

Here's a new one that came across my desk recently, just listening now, but it came highly recommended, despite the, er, questionable album title and artwork.

Just finished listening to the Rushjet1 Mega Man 2 remake. Sounds great, I loved what he did with Wily 3-5, just took the theme and just went mad with it!

Thanks for the link. I've listened to aivi and surasshu's album about 100 times, so I'm definitely down to listen to a tribute album

So I don't know if it counts as "chiptunes" because he often seems to straddle the line on chip vs regular synths, but one of my favorite artists is Kubbi. http://kubbi.bandcamp.com/. I first found him when I stumbled upon his album Sleet, and he's improved substantially since then.

My favorite stuff:
http://kubbi.bandcamp.com/album/circuithead - this whole album is great, though my favorite is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIF5RAhua3k, which is not on the bandcamp page.
http://kubbi.bandcamp.com/album/something-new - this is another favorite of mine.

Just went for Wily Stage 1 right off the bat and think this is awesome; thanks for sharing/excited to listen to the rest later.

I respect that he didn't do his own spin on that track since it's already regarded as one of the greatest. But god damn some of the stuff he does to the other tracks is really amazing. Check out MM1 & MM3 Remade too if you haven't already.

Chiptune-metal artist Rainbowdragoneyes as been on tour recently with a lot of pirate metal bands, and he just released an EP of one original song and 4 chiptune covers of some of the more popular pirate metal out there (including Swashbuckle, where he's actually the drummer).

a1640162036_2.jpg

I've been travelling the world as a pirate and these are my stories. It's time to Hook The Plank and enjoy my versions of 4 songs I don't own the rights to from each of The Big Four [of Pirate Metal]. Avast yarr hooks ahoy!

1. Hook The Plank
2. Chipwrecked (Alestorm)
3. Dreaded 8-Bit Skies (Lagerstein)
4. Cruise Bit Terror (Swashbuckle)
5. Binged And Bit-Purged (The Dread Crew Of Oddwood)

Some stuff I enjoy immensely ...

a2242259353_2.jpg

https://rhythmusrecords.bandcamp.com/album/rr002-fade-runner , very SID heavy, not pure chiptune, but nice lo-fi synth support going on here.

a2972450670_2.jpg

https://legowelt.bandcamp.com/album/loch-ness-complete-soundtrack-2013 , the mighty Legowelt and a sountrack of a never completed C64 game.

a1749559047_2.jpg

http://shop.hott.mx/album/strange-life-records-slr032-amiga-railroad-adventures, more glorious Legowelt music, not pure Amiga 1200, although in good company: TR808, Korg modulars, etc

a2909542997_2.jpg

https://blastromen.bandcamp.com/album/human-beyond , pushing it a bit here, but some tracks sport really awesome SID solos (e.g. Sidtroen), hella album for electro fans

Sorry guys, I've been sleeping a bit on this lately. Been busy strengthening my own Chip Music game. Nothing to show off yet, though we did get my music running on an actual NES so that's huge for me.

Anyway, enough about me. There has been some new, awesome stuff released.

If you're unfamiliar with Trey Frey, change that like... now.
His music is absolutely incredible and he puts on an amazing show.

How about some new Kubbi? Another really great chiptune musician worth looking into.
I haven't personally heard this one yet, but it's been recommended by several folks I trust, and also his previous output has been great

LINK: http://crashfaster.bandcamp.com/

Crashfaster is a band loved immensely by my team's programmer and artist. It's not for me, but I'll be damned if people don't love them a lot.
I'm going to have to give them another go, but hey, give it a shot

This is a very atmospheric and emotional chip album.
Pretty different but also really unique and well crafted

LINK: http://www.ptesquad.com/more/pte054.html

A friend pointed this one out to me yesterday.
We listened a bit in the car while we were driving from store to store trying to find Famicom-converter containing NES carts.
We ended up finding two.
I remember it being pretty melodic. Another one I have to give more attention to, personally, but I liked what I heard.

Let's give the thread a small bump, eh?

Code:

[url="https://an0va.bandcamp.com/album/permutation-ep"]
Permutation EP
by an0va // Invalids
Click for link[/url]

This split album was born of the idea of chiptune/traditional-rock cross-over,
whereupon each artist would write a new song for the album and subsequently
cover the other's.

an0va creates music using a Nintendo Gameboy, which is limited to producing
only four simultaneous sounds at any given time. Invalids creates music with both
hands on multiple stringed instruments, which allows for lush arrays of notes at any
given time. Thus the covers of the other artist's tracks must manipulate the original
arrangements accordingly. The an0va cover of Invalids' song must distill the most
important four simultaneous notes throughout. The Invalids cover of an0va's song must
expand upon the original limited note set.
