I'm having a fun time with it. Got past the part where you actually find "Death's Door" and learn what your objectives are. The gameplay and upgrade system are pretty basic but fun. There are some Zelda-like puzzles involving arrows. The monolith-like bosses seem pretty cool. Graphics are clean and the game runs smoothly. Thumbs up so far.

Curious about this one but I want to hear GAF’ers impressions before I go for it.

Any games it reminds of you of, specifically?
Not exactly. Its obviously slightly like Zelda. Simplistic but snappy combat. Decent boss fights. Some slight puzzles so far.

But its a lot more melancholy and meditative. The mood is just super chill, almost like Monument Valley or something. Somber piano music the whole time that is really good. Lots of walking though empty spaces to piano music with cool architecture around.

Enemies have been very easy so far. The cool art style and general mood is carrying the game for me.

Kind of stuck now. Think I'm missing a puzzle element somehow.

Thanks for the impressions. I bought this on a whim.

I’m frankly not super impressed, only played for 30 minutes though. Combat feels somehow slow and unresponsive, unlike a 60FPS game. Then I noticed when you die, they start you at the beginning of these big, maze like levels so you’ve got to walk your ass through all the bullshit to get back to where some enemy killed you.

Yawn. I probably won’t play this again despite buying it.

So hyperbolic reviews for an indie "darling", I am shock.

I do like the look of this and if I didn’t have a boat load of games to get through already, it would be an easy buy.

Maybe should've played longer than 30 minutes because there are a LOT of shortcuts, usually specifically near boss battles that make the walk back remarkably easy.

I dont know about that. I have played for around 3 hours so far and the game has definitely earned all the accolades it got. It is not doing anything particularly new when it comes to gameplay, but it does that pretty much flawlessly And it is all wrapped inside unique and pretty art design. Combat is not unresponsive, at least not on XSX and when did it became normal to complain about a tiny bit of punishment for dying?

Yeah, you basically unlock the shortcuts as you go through the maze.

I heard there are a lot of secrets in the game so I am playing pretty exploratory. I for sure am somehow missing 2 plant seeds in the garden area. I've also only found 1 shiny object so far. Seems crazy that I could have missed items but there are also areas I can see but can't access at the moment. I assume I will be doing some backtracking throughout the game once I have additional abilities and such.

First 2-3 hours were great, maybe a bit too simple but i'm still in the first dungeon.

I like how the game has a very veiled and light horror\unsettling atmposphere sometimes (like the whole first dungeon, the ost, the first boss) in what otherwise looks like a game with a childish artstyle.

Reflections on the floor are for a reason. Sometimes they reveal a secret that you don’t otherwise see.

My only issue with the game is the lack of a map. It's not needed if you intend to play consistently, but if I have to put it down for a while I'll definitely forget where things are. Backtracking would be less of an issue with a map.

I am honestly surprise more people aren't talking about this game. It is bordering on perfect for me. 4 hours or so in and I just beat the first big soul boss. I'm taking my time exploring. I did find a ton of stuff I missed in the garden thanks to the chef dude in the Stranded Sailor area.

I'm only gonna say this, when you find an object, make sure to read the description and rotate the object in the inventory...
Thanks for this, didn't even know this was possible, will check next time I boot up, I've found a few items.

He's basically just giving a description of where to look for secrets. Take note of the where and go explore. The game is quite clever about giving small visual cues as an indicator of secret areas or passages.

Yep I really enjoy taking notice of secrets and keeping my eyes peeled for very cleverly hidden areas. The camera rotations are fun.

Finished the game. It was pretty good and reminded me of Bloodborne, Ori, and Hollow Knight. 8/10.

I wish there were more weapons and mini-bosses though. The different biomes and level designs were pretty good. A lot of care, love, and passion went into this game, and it is visible in every frame. Great job by developers!

Yeah, I only got 4/5. I mean I could see the 5th weapon but I couldn't reach it, and I finished the main storyline once I got the missing power/ability that was required to get that weapon.

I've somehow managed to turn a 10 hour game into much longer... At 13.8 hours nows with the 3rd boss left, 9 shines missing, and 3 temples not found.

I've re-run through the levels a few times looking for secrets. I know for sure where some are, just not sure how to get them. (There's a chest at the beginning in the flooded forest, for example)

Hoping I can wrap up today. This game is def in my top 5 for GOTY this year.

Got it for $16 yesterday and played about an hour. I like it a lot so far. Simple, but tight controls and looks great. Good music too.

The cool thing is that it is simple on the surface. To get all the upgrades and items is actually kind of tricky, especially when the game doesn’t really hold your hand. I found out how to use those giant manhole covers purely out of accident.
