The ones that get me are where it's often followed up by "The Proportions are just Unrealistic!" or "Real Women do not have bodies like that!". I mean, while it's certainly true that there are many out-or-proportion characters in games with exaggerated "assets", there are times (like in this case) where the reaction against it is so over-the-top and targeted towards characters that are nowhere near "out of proportion"

I mean, this seems real to me...

I'm not usually into women with hairstyles like that but she could get it.

I agree but I'd say the second one who's literally wearing a corset is actually cheating for this argument.

Second video steamed up my glasses, which is weird because I took them off earlier.

I'm sorry if someone already mentioned this but curious if he will say the same concerning Bayonetta? Honestly don't see the issue, has he not seen some of the costumes for Black Dessert or even some Glamours for FFXIV(not as bad as BDO).

What will Alex say if Kratos comes out with a huge package he calls the real world serpent?

Maybe there is a desperation for games to be taken seriously?

At my work there are younger women in their early 20s who would still hold the opinion that videogames are basically for kids.

Of course they all watch absolutely dreadful reality TV and have shockingly bad taste in movies but still would see games as toys for boys at the end of the day.
When I was much younger, there was this effort from certain outlets to try and elevate video games to a more ”respectable” medium. This was the age of MGS2, when gaming had come out of the closet and gained immense popularity thanks to the PS1, and the PS2 was doubling down on “mature” games, making Sega and Nintendo’s approach to gaming suddenly seem kiddy and obsolete in the span of a single gen.

20 years later, I fully embrace the idea of video games being, if not toys, just simple pastimes. Pure entertainment. Sure, some of them can be deeper than others. It’s usually not those that try too hard to be ”mature”, though.

I don’t know what pushes the desperate attempts to “elevate” games to something more than they actually are.
It reeks of a need for validation from people who were shunned in their youth for liking video games. I’m pretty sure it was exactly that for me, back then: “See? See? Vidya gamez are srs business, folks! I’m normal, I swear! I’m not a lonely nerd who’d rather spend hours in front of my TV than go out and meet people! I’m into something totally serious here!” Meanwhile, dubious “academics” were writing totally delirious books and articles about games and cinema, games and literature, games and society. I read some of those. For most of them, my time would be better spent playing games.

”Women” (it’s not only women, btw) aren’t wrong in seeing games as toys for boys. Games are that first and foremost, regardless of the effort of devs and journalists to make them “serious” and “deep”. If you need validation from the people who Alex is pandering to here, you still have a few things to understand about video games. A pretty doll in a fantasy game isn’t going to cause western society to become Afghanistan in a few decades - I’d be curious to get an explanation on how that would work exactly, anyway, seeing that we’ve had pretty dolls around for literal millennia and western women still have much more freedom than in many parts of the world.

And, one more time: the girl in this game is much, much, much tamer in her design than many other examples. The pearl clutching is completely unjustified.

Wouldn’t that be right up his street?

She just looks athletic to me.
Look at Vanillawares Sorceress design.
Now that's embarrassing.

"Don't touch my Kamitani"! - he is fantastic character designer and exaggerated proportions are his trait, for boys and girls alike, so everyone wins!

You don't say... 😏

Oh yes, absolutely, I like his artwork too, but comparatively speaking I mean, the Eve character looks positively pedestrian ( I do like the Eve character design too)
I mean, I can laugh at the accentuated proportions of the Sorceress but wouldn't feel comfortable playing it in front of my Mum lol

There is definitely something to this mentality you speak of when it comes to certain aspects of the games press or other commentators/academics who've made mention of how games should be "more than just toys for boys" or something like that. It's like there's an underlying "Shame" that they're trying to escape out of when it comes to playing games to some degree. Although I also suspect a good chunk of the "grifters" who've made money off of this of course are doing it just for that. But like you said, there's definitely a feel that these people want to be "validated" by their peers and that they need their own enjoyment of games to be approved by them, and that it cannot be done unless they make games to be more than just "entertainment". Hence why so many pundits and commentators try so hard to write articles about how games have to be "political" in their circles, like the movie industry.

I've been caught by my grandma when I was young fapping hard on an orgy porn video. I wish it was only "this"! LMAO

Complaining about Stellar Blade's female character design when we have games like Bayonetta...with a lead character that throws lots of female sexuality to the player's face.

The world we live in...

I don't see any problem in this. Sexuality is part of videogames too. There's nothing wrong with her design being a sexy one.

Sexuality as always been present, the world just became too shitty and extra sensible, and now some people like to debate these things, like they're on a damn crusade.

If people get too offended by some polygons, simple - Don't play the game.

Fuck, as a gay man I love that we get sexy female characters in control of their looks and sexuality. It’s hot and cool. But I also like that we get Abby body builder arms and that we get middle-age badass Ripleys like in Returnal.

Let’s have space for everything and not become snowflakes who clutch their pearls every time a character doesn’t fall into our “ideal” image.

I loved Days Gone also because Deacon was a hot motherfucker.

As far as the design, we've seen Snake and Raiden wear similar clothing, so people who have an issue with it need to show consistency.

I'm actually more worried about the gameplay, I've got no idea what the team has made in the past - and I don't get excited by game characters in revealing/tight (virtual) clothing.

Reverse groomer.
I can sort of agree with df that it's somewhat distracting but I could easily beat most Shantae games and played Bayonetta without paying much attention to the overly sexy main characters. Can still understand where they're coming from though

This.
No whining about too ugly, too beautiful, too sexy, too muscular, too small, too fat, too different in skin color characters please.

It's just annoying. As long as the characters are well written and authentic, they can look however they want. As long as they are not just squeezed into the game because of an agenda, even though it is totally inappropriate.
