Dino crisis 3 is the worst dino crisis game ever


When the 5th anniversary package came out in July 2004, Dino Crisis 3 was not featured in it. Plus in the bonus DVD, that came along featuring an interview with Hiroyuki Kobayashi and Shu Takumi, Kobayashi only mentioned that he served as producer for Dino Crisis 3. And that was it. No further discussion happened between the two of them about DC3.
Dino Crisis 3 was/is considered a write-off to the Capcom folks.

Not surprising. I have a sneaking suspicion it was a stand alone game and someone at Capcom said "Oh wait, this has dinosaurs in it? Let's call it Dino Crisis 3 and add some brand recognition!"

If it was a 360/PS3 game, I'm sure most people would assume it was another victim of Capcom's "western period".

I think Dino Stalker was more the case you're referring to. Adding the Dino to the title would give it some brand recognition.

As you can see above, the game when originally announced had nothing to do with Space. But rather was going to focus on a modern day setting where dinosaurs and humans were in constant conflict due to the time breaches that were presented in Dino Crisis 2.
However, it seems the plans changed when 9/11 happened. The idea of a destroyed city apparently didn't sit well with Capcom. During that time, there were other games that changed certain aspects as to not hit too close to home with their American audiences. Anyone familiar with Capcom's development knows that especially back then, it wasn't uncommon for their teams to do a total 180 degree turn from their original concept or to make a concept into a whole new IP instead.

Thanks for this juciy info. Seems absolutely legit as I do not think this drastic shift to space was something Capcom inteded to originally for the series.

I really wonder where the series would be today if it wouldn't have been for this. One can only hope that Capcom brings it back one day.

Very simple, start whining and nagging to/at Capcom Dev Division 1 to have them do a new Dino Crisis game. (these are the people who made RE Revelations 2, RE7, RE2Remake and DMC5).





The head of Dev Division 1, Jun Takeuchi, said that he wants to increase the staff so that they can handle 4 AAA titles simultaneously.
RE and DMC are games that Capcom fans identify with, when they think about the aforesaid company.
In the interview, Takeuchi talks about the updated Capcom RE Engine and the improvements that it has brought to the table, and Capcom’s intention to increase the size of the staff to be able to handle four AAA titles at once. While this is interesting, the most interesting part of the interview might well be that the team is working on a new title that will surprise people.
“If we keep gradually increasing the size of our staff, I’m thinking that at some point maybe we might be able to handle four AAA titles at once”, Takeuchi told Famitsu.

“Also, in addition to that, we’re currently working on a title that will make our fans think, “wow, they’re making that?

It doesn't need a verification mark. It's legitimate, if you can read/understand Japanese. This account was initially founded to cater for the Japanese audience (Capcom has other PR channels for the Westerners)
But apparently the word spread out which led to many westerners starting following the account to get news/info, and also it became a nifty venue to voice their requests directly to Capcom Dev Division 1 (which is shaped to become one truly great dev in these days, judging from the games they've created)

Ok, let's get down to business. There have been shenanigans over the last 3 years.






First of all......
......back in March 2017, RE7 producer Masachika Kawata was asked about Dino Crisis. He certainly expressed his hope that Capcom would seize the opportunity to do something about the game, while informing us that no talks were held within Capcom in relation to Dino Crisis at that time.
Just for the record, Kawata has worked on all 3 Dino Crisis games.

The same year, in summer of 2017, Yasuhiro Anpo (RE2Remake team/supervising director and RE Revelations 2 director) and Koushi Nakanishi (Resident Evil 7 and RE Revelations director), announced that they had been developing a certain RE product.
RE2Remake had already been announced back in August 2015., thus it couldn't have been that. You can easily exclude that from the equation.
What they meant was something else. People hypothesized that it might be Revelations 3. Still no word whatsoever about a potential Revelations 3 game.
So the two of them have been cooking something for some time now.

Technically speaking the main director of RE2REmake is Kazunori Kadoi. Since RE2Remake was his directorial debut, Anpo was the team director of the project to support Kadoi's endeavour.

Dusk Golem mentioned about this Takeuchi interview that this title isn’t even Resident Evil related : "Just to add speculation and flavor to what he said a bit, the surprise title he’s talking about is not a Resident Evil game, and is pretty far along in development. Almost assuredly going to be announced next year and released the year after."



Also in December of the same year, Dusk Golem came forward and claimed that RE3Remake was already in development. Moreover he claimed that the game had been outsourced, and is not a Dev Division 1 project.









If you just do the math based on the confirmed facts, Capcom Dev Division 1 surely has one game in development that will surprise fans. A game that won't come out before March 2020.
When Capcom released its Presentation for the previous Fiscal Year 2018/2019 in May 2019 , they also showed their forecasts for the current Fiscal year 2019/2020.
According to their Strategic Objectives table, no major titles are planned to be released by the end of March 2020 (usually in the previous years they would list the yet-to-be unveiled games as : Major Title 1, Major Title 2 ... etc ) , Their only planned Major input was/is Monster Hunter World Iceborne for this Fiscal Year.

So the question is what has Kawata been working on since 2017?
What about Koushi Nakanishi?

I don't think that it's Hexadrive, just for argument's sake.
FYI, RE7 DLC Not a Hero was developed by HexaDrive.




So bottom line is : if my math is correct Kawata Masachika might be working on a new Dino Crisis game. On the other hand, Anpo Yasuhiro and Koushi Nakanishi might as well be working on RE3Remake.
I would bet my shirt that a new Dino Crisis game is going to be announced by the end of this year. There have been many shenanigans going on, indicating that things are motion for Dino Crisis after so many years.

Talking about teases and hints,
If you read into the lines, then what is this tease? It might be something, but then again it might be just bullshit.
One day they show us RE1 Jill (obviously the protagonist of RE3, into the bargain) and the next day they show us walls in a dilapidated state inside the Police Station. While everybody knows that in RE3, Jill briefly pays a visit to the Police Station while being hunted by the pursuer Nemesis, who happens to be far more aggressive than Tyrant of RE2.
So if there's some sort of tease by official channels, there you have it.

very good take on why dino crisis games has fallen.

For me personally, I trust only Masachika Kawata. He must do it, and he has to do it.
Certainly RE2Remake blazes the path on how Capcom's survival horror games should be done.

Back in Fall 1999 I had an amazing blast with two mind-blowing games : Biohazard 3 Last Escape and Dino Crisis.
They were simply off the chain. They just blew me out of the water.
I hope, wish and pray in my heart of hearts that the surprising title is what we're discussing here. The unannounced title is the last resort for the Dino Crisis fans out there.
If it's not Dino Crisis, then there won't be another Dino game again.... I mean never.


I mean ya, Jill, Carlos, Nemesis and the rest are going to make RE fans happy in all their glory, thanks to the power of RE Engine, but alas I don't care so much about RE3 Remake. I've had enough with the series. I have been concerning myself with canon RE games since September 1996, when I bought RE1. Enough is enough.
Surely, RE2 was an absolute fan-favourite game for which there was long-lasting and endless outcry, demand and fervent longing for a remake, and justifiably so Capcom did the right thing to present it in all its "remade" glory. I was extremely pleased with the results and the outcome of the Capcom Dev Division 1 efforts on that matter.

fan remakes never will happen because capcom will shut down anything with its name. but they wont do nothing now ..no they will wait until fans will go hundreds hrs into making game and then will K.O it

Creator and director of the 1st game, Mikami Shinji, also tweeted about the 20th anniversary today.





Hiroyuki Kobayashi, planner of Dino Crisis 1, and producer of Dino Crisis 2 and 3 also tweeted about it.
Kobayashi is still employed by Capcom, working as a producer.

For so many years I havent played Dino crisis 3 because people have said it's not a good game at all, but I have played it anyway not so long time ago and I still really enjoyed. Amazing scenery and bosses.
You can say that DC3 has it's own idiosyncratic merits in its own right. A portion of people consider it be fun and get a kick out of it, while others think that it is a complete flop and farrago.
For me personally, I really don't know what to think - can't make head nor tail of that game.

And this is sth particular that came about when Capcom unveiled RE2Remake last year. People started thinking since Capcom is remaking a game from 1998, why not remake literally everything from back then.
RE is series that has lasted for more than two decades. It is expected that various entries have gained the status classic from in there.
When RE2Remake was released, producer Hirabayashi said during a Game Watch Impress interview, that RE2Remake became possible because there had been a long-lasting clamouring and outcry from the fans to have RE2 remade.

In an interview with Game Watch, Resident Evil 2 Remake Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi stated that RE2 Remake happened because people had continued to ask for it for years, and that love and dedication is what spurred them to finally do it. Now, fans have started to ask if a remake of its direct sequel, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (or BioHazard 3: Last Escape). RE3, while not being quite as much of a recycled game as people seem to think it is, it is set in Raccoon City and they could get away with sharing assets and even a brief stop at the RPD station as the original did. It feels like an obvious choice to fans, and Capcom confirms that they’re listening. When asked about the possibility of more remakes, Hirabayashi said that if fans were to want another remake they would base it around the same kind of demand.


There is one tiny problem with the Dino Crisis series: It's not so ripe and mature as the RE series does, to have classic titles in it that require modernization and remakes (due to the fact many years went by and the ravages of time rendered obsolete the old classic entries)

Recently i discovered that there was a game boy color version in development that was cancelled, looked like the resident evil prototype, really neat stuff. If one game of that saga deserve a remake is totally the first one, i am not fond of the sequel.

fan remakes never will happen because capcom will shut down anything with its name. but they wont do nothing now ..no they will wait until fans will go hundreds hrs into making game and then will K.O it

Yeah, it's certainly something lamentable and appalling that Capcom does, jealously guarding their IPs. On the bright side, Konami is far worse.
But if it becomes good, they might invite Arklay's Team to their offices to chat about Dino Crisis



When news broke that Capcom would develop a Resident Evil 2 Remake, the world rejoiced - well, a lot of it, anyway. I imagine there were some people following the development of Resident Evil 2 Reborn (a fan-made game created in Unreal Engine 4 by InvaderGames) who were less than pleased, afraid of what would happen to the project. The bad news is that work on Resident Evil 2 Reborn has ceased. The good news is that the team was invited to meet with Capcom to give their ideas to the development of the official RE2 remake.

I feel like that leaker(s) keeps moving the goal posts, first remake3 and dino crisis were gonna be announced at microsofts e3 didn't happen, Marvel vs was said for evo again nothing, ye its clear re8 is next gen, dmcv development and support ended in april so that expansion is squashed. The others seem like plausable guesses.

street fighter v coming to xbox and switch is like a year old rumor that still has no light to it. We dont know the funding deal sony did how long was that contract? That would have been a prime evo announcement, 3 characters are coming in the winter bundle at capcom cup this is known.

i agree . these leaks has become very questionable recently .

Well you know, Dusk Golem (a.k.a. AestheticGamer) has been considered a trusted leaker. Neither do I call his claims flat-out lies, nor do I believe him blindly.

He said about the surprise title ( teased by Jun Takeuchi) not being RE related.
He claimed RE3Remake being in development and RE8 having moved to next-gen.

Ya I mean those rumours, have been inaccurate up until now.
The only things I would cite are :
1)When Jawmuncher, a long-lasting champion of the Dino Crisis series, asked Capcom Development Division 1 about the possibility of seeing a new Dino Crisis anytime soon, at least they answered back.



2) the surprise title that Jun Takeuchi (the head of Capcom Dev Division 1) teased, about which Dusk Golem mentioned not being RE related.

I wonder why Dino Crisis 3 was Xbox exclusive? It wasn't a very good decision because many fans played the previous games on PS1.

Who knows? Business decision within Capcom Japan, made by the infamous corridors of power.
You haft find people like Mikami, Okamoto, or Aoyama in person, to get an answer out of them - only they might know. Kobayashi and Kawata are still employed by Capcom so they wouldn't blab.

Next Bach introduced the managing director and head of R&D for Capcom, Yoshiki Okamoto. Okamoto talked about how "the powerful Xbox" will let Capcom developers "make their dreams come true." He continued by saying that they will be able to "emphasize characters in a game as in a movie." Capcom will deliver three games exclusive to Xbox "soon." This list includes a redesigned version of Onimusha for the Xbox, Dino Crisis 3, and Brainbox, a robot simulator game using a "large controller."

Production Studio 4 (hereafter referred as PS4) was officially brought to life by Capcom in October 1999 as an internal development studio and came under the management of Shinji Mikami, the spiritual father of, among others, the Resident Evil series. Mikami was asked to take up the management of Production Studio 4 as well as lead the development process of several titles.

Before PS4, Mikami was mostly employed by Flagship, which was then still a studio that consisted mostly of writers from different studios but now is more focused on the effective development of games. Flagship, by the way, was and is still financed jointly by Capcom, Sega, and Nintendo, but works primarily for and is managed by Capcom. The scenarios for series Dino Crisis, Onimusha, Devil May Cry, and Resident Evil (except for Resident Evil 3: Nemesis) all originated with Flagship, which also handled the scenarios as well as the actual production of the Game Boy Zelda Oracle games.


The very first title Production Studio 4 title was Dino Crisis for the original PlayStation console. The game is about dinosaurs that end up in a different period of time because of a mishap during an experiment and change the island on which the experiment took place into a living nightmare. The player's task is to lead the two protagonists to a safe escape. The success of the game led to a sequel, Dino Crisis 2, as well as ports of the original to Dreamcast and both games to the PC. Unlike its predecessor, Dino Crisis 2 was made under the management of Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who was later responsible for Resident Evil: Code: Veronica.

Shortly after the release of Dino Crisis 2, Fushigi Deka was published in Japan. This was a cartoon adventure for PlayStation that was developed under the supervision of Hiroshi Shibata (the producer of the upcoming Resident Evil 4 for GameCube).

In the meantime, PS4 had also started the production of Resident Evil: Code: Veronica for Dreamcast, Resident Evil Zero for Nintendo 64, and somewhat later, Resident Evil 4 for PlayStation 2.

Code: Veronica on Dreamcast was the very first in its series that did not use pre-rendered backgrounds, opting instead for full 3D graphics. The title was received well on Dreamcast and can certainly be called a success. However, much less publicized was the fact that about a year later a re-mastered version, Resident Evil: Code: Veronica Complete, was released on Dreamcast exclusively for the Japanese audience, in honor of the five-year existence of the Resident Evil series. It was this version that, in cooperation with Studio Production 3, was ported to the PlayStation 2 under the name Resident Evil: Code: Veronica X and released in all areas. Two years later, an identical version was released on GameCube, also in co-operation with Production Studio 3, as part of Capcom's exclusive contract with Nintendo that involved the entire Resident Evil series.


However successful the GameCube versions, Resident Evil Zero on Nintendo 64 fared quite differently. The development of this prequel did not go too well due to hardware limitations; therefore, the decision was made to move production to the GameCube platform. This meant that Production Studio 4 had to start from scratch in several areas, but in the end, Resident Evil Zero (2002) was released in superior form on Nintendo's GameCube.


Resident Evil 4 on PlayStation 2 also underwent a real metamorphosis. This one even went as far as changing the project from a sequel of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis to the hyper-stylish Devil May Cry, starring the half-demon Dante. Unfortunately, the production duties for the sequel to this game were entrusted to the less talented Production Studio 1, resulting in the failure of Devil May Cry 2 to even come close to its predecessor. The production of RE 4 for GameCube wouldn't start until just before the release of Devil May Cry, but more on that later.

Meanwhile, Production Studio 4 was also preparing two Game Boy Advance titles for the Japanese market: Gyakuten Saiban ("reversed judgement") and Black Black. The former is about a lawyer who has to defend his client during a court case, while the latter is an RPG with turn-based combat. Later, Gyakuten Saiban got two sequels: Gyakuten Saiban 2 (2002) and 3 (2004). Unfortunately, these were only for the Japanese market.


On September 13, 2001, Production Studio 4 suddenly announced a GameCube remake of the very first Resident Evil, as well as an exclusive contract by which all present and future RE games up to and including Resident Evil 4 would be released only on GameCube. Resident Evil was created in order to bring to life Shinji Mikami's first survival horror game as it was originally intended, and it turned out to be an excellent game. In cooperation with Production Studio 3, RE 2 and RE 3: Nemesis were also ported to the Cube.

On February 22, 2002, PS4 announced its very first Xbox title: Tekki. This game, renamed Steel Battalion for the western market, was made under the supervision of Atsushi Inaba and places the player in the role of pilot of a giant fighter robot. The game can only be played using a gigantic simulation controller made up of no less than two sticks and about forty buttons. The drawback of this jumbo controller is the price tag, which is around $200 for the package.

Two years later, in February 2004, Steel Battalion: Line of Contact (Tekki Wars in Japan) was released in both the East and West. The game is a version of the original that can be played online via Xbox Live and allows a maximum of sixteen players.

On July 11, 2002, Dino Crisis 3 was announced for Xbox, a project that, like the second part, was supervised by Hiroyuki Kobayashi but produced in association with Studio Production 3. Unfortunately, the game turned out to be a disappointment upon release because of many flaws in gameplay and design, despite the promising setting of a futuristic space station with genetically manipulated dinosaurs.

On November 14, 2002, Production Studio 4 made the biggest announcement in its history. Five different games from five different producers were announced exclusively for Nintendo's GameCube. Today, however, the exclusivity of any of these games is uncertain, a condition that can be ascribed to Capcom's current weak financial position. For the development of these titles, Production Studio 4 was temporarily split up into five separate teams. Two of the five titles have been released so far.

Viewtiful Joe, by Atsushi Inaba, Hideki Kamiya, and Team Viewtiful, is a slick cel-shaded 2D side-scroller with 3D elements and a comic hero as the main character. It is the ultimate proof that it is possible for 2D gameplay to work effectively when given a modern coating.

P.N. 03, produced by Shinji Mikami and Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is a game where the player has to defeat a berserk robot army using female mercenary Vanessa Z. Schneider. Despite Vanessa's rhythmical movements, P.N.03 has a few serious flaws, causing the everyday consumer to give up on the game rather quickly. Citing P.N. 03's poor sales as one factor, Mikami gave notice he was leaving his manager duties at PS4 a few months after the game was released. Although Noritaka Funamizu took over his position, Mikami is still active as a producer for Production Studio 4 today.


The games keep coming for PS4.

Dead Phoenix, by Hiroki Katou (director of Code: Veronica) and Atsushi Inaba, is a title that takes place in a city above the clouds and puts the player in the role of winged warrior Phoenix. The production of this title was halted a while ago, but may eventually start again.


Killer 7, produced by Goichi Suda and Shinji Mikami, is a very stylish action game in which the player handles a character possessing no fewer than seven personalities. It is due out in Q4 2004.
Resident Evil 4, produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi and Hiroshi Shibata under the supervision of Shinji Mikami, is the real sequel to Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Originally, the game took place in an eerie mansion, but because Mikami decided this setup was too much like the other parts of the series, a completely new setting and story were speedily constructed. The title is also set for a 2004 release.

Finally, in April 2004, Under the Skin - known as Panic Maker in Japan - was announced for PlayStation 2. The game, produced under the supervision of Atsushi Inaba, puts the player in control of an alien whose mission is to anger as many people as possible. Both it and Viewtiful Joe 2 were playable at E3 2004.

So, PS4 is dealing well with its setbacks and bringing sales and critical recognition to Capcom. It remains to be seen whether Dead Phoenix will live up to its name, but for now, we have several promising titles to look forward to.









Fujiwara’s decision to leave came down to his desire to make new and original games, something he says he would have been unable to do within Capcom. “ Outside of Resident Evil, Capcom wanted to continue making franchise titles like Street Fighter. Meanwhile, I wanted to develop original games, but it didn’t look like there’d be any opportunity to do so in the foreseeable future,” Fujiwara says. Officially, he resigned from Capcom immediately after the release of Resident Evil, although in practice, he had stopped coming into the office in December 1995 in order to use up his accumulated vacation days, of which there were plenty given his 13-year tenure, which encompassed thousands of hours of amassed overtime and unused days off, a pattern that was prevalent at Capcom during these years.

I hope they make Dino Crisis 3 backwards compatible on Xbox One. I don't have the console but I might buy it at some point.
