Yeah, mine has been somewhat inconsistent with performance. At the beginning of the beta, my FPS was <10 on planets, and then I had to turn terrain to low, which got me 60+ FPS and doesn't look terrible. I can now set it on medium-ish settings where at first I get <10 FPS for a few seconds, then it goes up to the 50s.
Yeah I get the same exact behavior.

Finally jumping back into this after being gone for about a year and can someone tell me wtf happened to the engine? Running a 4k downsample causes the LOD to freak the fuck out, or not load at all. Did not use to have this issue (at least not this pronounced)

Running a 2xTitan SLI so it's not a performance problem, it never dips below 60, but this shit is infuriating, I can give it a temp fix by changing the resolution in game which forces the right LOD to load. Anyone have some clues as to any config files I can mess with?

I don't know what causes it but I get the same thing when I use the in game supersampling option when I switched to 2560x1440 and applied 1.5 SSAA, suddenly weapons and my own pilots textures became very low quality. I've seen some other complaints but I don't know of a solution.

No there isn't. Turn them in at your leisure. I still have a completed CG from 3 months ago. Just haven't been bothered to go back to Hutton Orbital. Not for $3 million when I have $2.5 billion. But I will go eventually. It's quite the ride!

Just scoop it when Horizons comes out. It'll come with everything you need. All you missed out on was about a month of "head start" if you will.

Followup question: Do you lose completed quests if you die?

Aren't suns supposed to be white? Why are all the suns I have encountered yellow/orange?

Edit: Apparently there are a bunch of colors. Any blue stars around?

Yes there are blue stars and white stars. I think they've visually represented the major star types that we are aware of.

Nope, most stars aren't white, they range in color from blue to white to red, depending on their... surface temperature, I think?

Of course the game does dim each star's light, otherwise every ship/station would be blindingly bright on one side and pure black on the other. Not to mention how a star would actually look in real life from as close as we get after a fsd jump!

My guess is that it can be explained ''fluff wise'' by the Ships canopy glass and the pilots helmets that filter most of the light otherwise we would be blinded by any star when we get that close.

I've just checked in with our support team for you.

It will be a Horizons specific key and everyone will need to download the 64 bit version of the game yes.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,

Zac

That's interesting. I have the Steam version installed now but I honestly never launch the game from Steam anymore, I just open the ED launcher from the Steam directory and load the game from there. I wonder if I'll have to wait for my Horizons Steam key or not? If I have to wait then I'm just gonna re-install the non Steam version, LOL!

FYI, for you folks jumping in for the first time with Horizons, you can play right now!

"Yes that's right. With only 1 week left to go till launch we've decided to allow Horizons pre-orders the chance to get in and play season 1 while they wait. "

Love that gravity actually affects objects within the orbit. Someone on reddit said some cargo got dropped in orbit and was pulled down to the planet.

Same thing happens with ship wreckage if you're in combat, apparently.

Yep, and same for mining rocks on the surface...the little potatoes spawn and float around in different ways depending on the body's gravity.

Horizons preorder couldn't play the vanilla game already? that's weird.

Excellent--ThoseDeafMutes took care of the thread title and I updated its OP with new info.

Kinda excited to work on the new OT this weekend. Be sure to share the best planetary porn you can find! Hoping we can find pics from reddit so I can ask the creators if its okay if I use their pics.

Guys, just FYI...I think I posted it last night, but if you're on an older video card, get ready to put your settings down to low for planetary landings. Unless FD do some crazy optimizations in the next week, your older GPUs are gonna melt.

The good news is that low settings doesn't look bad at all.

It's playable at least? I've a friend with a 580 that want to play Horizon, hope it's enough

Just think about how good it will look a year from now, when we will get volcanism and even better textures... Of course that's it they don't roll back the graphics, but I doubt it, now that they said no to Mac.

Yeah but you have to remember XB1 is part of the equation. Hopefully nothing is gimped down the line to support it.
