i'm stuck between hard and expert still. i've decided to basically alternate between the two so i don't win the driver's championship my rookie year. i get top 5 consistently on hard and get bottom 5 consistently on expert. purple all testing on hard and can only purple the first one (farthest to the left), track acclimitazation (sp?). forget about a slider codies, just give me a "legbone" difficulty between hard and expert. in all seriousness it seem a lot of people are in the same boat as me and i just can't "get gud". i think a slider is in order.

I think it varies by track too. For instance, in Hungaroring, I'm about 0.2s off the pace in qualifying compared to my team mate. Next race is in Hockenheim, which is admittedly a much easier track, and I'm 0.2s faster than my team mate. In fact, I qualified 13th when I qualified 21st in the previous race. It feels like they need an adaptive difficulty setting, estimate what's going to be fun for you based on your times around races, which they have a lot of data for.

There are tools out there for extracting the game data and modifying car performance, but that only comes in 4 difficulty levels where there are 8 in the actual game, so I don't actually know how they're determined.

yes, i have noticed this too. bahrain was easier on expert and monaco was hard as hell (of course monaco is hard anyway for me).

It was in P2 yeah (P1 was raining, I did a few laps for the R&D points). In qualifying so far (6 mins left in the session) I'm only 2 tenths behind Haryanto, so I think you're right. I was actually beating him then he went out and set a faster lap. I'm faster than him in sector 1 and barely faster in sector 2, but my sector 3 time is letting me down, I think it's the braking zone before the first hairpin where I'm losing time.

edit: I was racing in Hungary, forgot to specify.
That seems like a fairly reasonable result to me. You could probably make that two tenths up to Rio by nailing a lap or with a perfected setup.

Guys, how's Sochi in terms of AI difficulty compared to other circuits?
I'm doing practice at the moment and would suggest keeping it on whatever you had for China.

Also, bring lots of Super Softs as there is zero tyre wear around that place...

I actually have raced there (Sochi) yesterday, to be honest. I just want to know if it's one of those easier racers or not, because I managed to qualify in P9 with a Renault and finished the race (Trulli train style, with people in front pulling away from me, heh) also in P9 after bumping the AI to expert (first time using it). Not bad, actually! I'm starting to think about restarting the career on expert, to be honest, specially after the game picking Hamilton as my rival. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Think the new update has added new commentary from Ant and Crofty. They were waffling on about track limits on one of the introductions like the last few real races. Nice touch.

So not worth it

Not sure I need more of Sky's whining about track limits in my life, to be honest.

Wonder if they'll introduce Ocon in an update. As he's one of the few drivers who actually also played the game :)

Why is Spain so much more difficult than previous tracks? Not just in terms of AI speed, but in terms of getting the car round the track. Really struggling to be consistent!

Best racing wheel for PS4? I'm loving this game far more than I ever expected to...

I run a t300 thrustmaster and it's pretty sweet. The pedals are shit though so you might want to upgrade them to the tp3a or t3pa-pro set but otherwise it's spot on. You can get a H shifter and other wheel rims for it too if you like.

Either the Logitech G29 or the T300, both have specific up and downsides to them, I prefer the G29 because of the Logitech Software it comes with on PC, but that's not an issue for a PS4 exclusive user.

Qualified dead last in Sochi, with team mate Pascal just ahead of me on the back row.

I've been farming as many RP as possible so far to invest into next year's car after I got a fortunate points finish in Bahrain. I was going to give us some upgrades for Catalunya and Silverstone just to try and keep in touch with Sauber and Renault but I fear we may be dropping behind already.

It's probably the most technical circuit on the callendar. That's one of the reasons they do the pre-season tests there.

Ive got the T300 as well, but the pedals were shit so I ordered the t3pa pro pedals and I love the setup. Good force feedback and all the necessary functions.

Is there any advantage to banking the points and not using them until the end of the season? Or am I reading your post wrong? I always spend mine the first chance I get and especially at the laptop screen right before you start a new weekend. then it's like an instant upgrade. Also I noticed there is a "halt development" on the r&d screen. Would someone that is more knowledgeable than me please explain?

Oh no, this is just me trying to play in an 'authentic' manner. Because Manor obviously have limited budget and resources and only put upgrades on a few times a year.

So I'm giving myself a year of struggle at the back with the aim of hopefully making a big leap forward next year to keep it realistic.

But you play however you want to. There's no benefit other than a little boost for halting your development until next year in the final part of the season.

Update on this: qualfiied 11th at Spa, my S1 time was faster than even the Mercedes, but my S2 time was a second slower than Rio. I was 3rd in the race too! Until it started raining... and I eventually simulated the rest of the race because I cannot drive in wet weather for the life of me (was in last place by the time I gave up). I put on wet tyres thinking that I was being really clever, because heavy rain was incoming, but everyone just stayed on inters.

I just hit the triangle button on "suspend r&d" and it gave a message that if you suspend r&d that you also get a 25% bonus to any points earned. you may wan't to do that bob.

This was one of the reasons I bumped the AI to expert. On hard I could bank all R&D points available, which is kind of unrealistic for a smaller team. Things get different on expert, tho, as they get harder.

If you're struggling to drive on wet, try short shifting. Don't let the revs climb too much until you're on the 6th gear at least. These cars have too much torque. There are some adjustments you can do to your car too, like upping and softening the suspensions (specially on the rear of the car), deflating the tires, loosening the differentials and adding more angle on the front and rear wings so you get more downforce.

That option only appears when you're a significant way through the season, over halfway at least.

i see. thanks for the heads up. i'm using the points to make my renault more competitive. if i ever get that ferrari contract i'm wanting, i could see myself suspending r&d once available in a season and bank them for the next season.

First qualifying session on expert in Australia. P15 with a Renault. Not that bad...

P10 on the race, working my ass off to keep Button and Sains behind me. :3

It turns out that expert was the perfect level for me.

I also didn't noticed how close to the wall I was getting sometimes, lol.

Goddamn safety car. I was all set for a 7th place finish on Singapore, but then the safety car came out because Perez crashed or something and the cars ahead of me didn't have to pit.

yep, i've learned to fucking hate the safety car and the vsc (though i will haul me some ass and push it to the limit of the rules while under vsc).

I got hit with a safety car in my last race at sepang while i was leading the race. Everything was fine, hit the pits and bam, 7th place. sure, some hadn't pitted but some had. two to be exact. ended up with a third place finish. sometimes i feel like kimi, vettel, hamilton, and rosburg get a turbo button sometimes. i will be banking consistent laps and they will gain seven seconds on me with no problem. come vrrroooming (that's a word i tell ya) out of nowhere in the rear view at fucking light speed.

All this talk about having to switch difficulties race by race makes me think of an idea I've had for a while regarding racing games. Why can't they give you some kind of test every once in a while to test your ability, then adapt the AI around that. The worst offender in racing games is usually AI breaking far earlier than you can so you're always overtaking them easily into corners. Couldn't the game learn the way you take that corner and adjust the AI to match you much more closely. Tight racing in a game like this is so difficult if the AI deviates even slightly in even just one particular corner on a track.

I'd love to see a system that asks you to put in the best possible lap you can, even giving you pointers along the way (the Acclimitisation in practice in this game feels like the PERFECT way to learn the flow of tracks, far better than an always on racing line does), and then adjust the AI to you. Hamilton will be slightly better than you at being able to outbreak you or whatever, a lesser driver in real life will be adjusted to be slightly worse than you, and so on.

EDIT: Started a new career since updates.. wow they NEED to include a "skip cut scene" option in the career mode.

Didn't Forza have some kind of adaptive difficulty or something? I vaguely remember this. But yeah, that would be pretty cool. And you are right, corners are where I eat up AI in videogames. They always "turbo button" through the straights to catch up though.

I skip anything I want with the x button on ps4. Are you on pc or something?

Just finished a season on legend with Ricciardo. I needed 7th in the last race to beat Hamilton and win the championship. Well, couple of laps before the end I was 5th but my rear tires were at 64-66%. Needless to say Räikkönen passed me, then my idiotic "teammate" Verstappen decided to pass me. Half a lap to go, I was 7th with a slim lead over Grosjean, rear tires at 73%. Couple of turns later Grosjean was right behind me but luckily the last few corners are so tight he didn't have a good chance to pass me and I finished 7th. Lucky, but I'll take it.

Indeed, I was lucky throughout the season because Hamilton had couple of accidents, blew an engine and there was plenty of rain early in the season that helped me get some extra points. In Brazil we were passing each other every lap until finally he attacked into a tight corner but there just wasn't room and we both spun, I managed to get going but Hamilton lost a place there. Another lucky accident for me.

Other than "real" online racing with iRacing etc. F1 2016 might be the best racing game ever in creating stories. I can't think of a single race in my whole season where I was bored or that there weren't opportunities to gain or lose throughout the race. There was always something happening whether it was the weather, safety car, pit stops, tires, strategy, fuel. All the little factors add up so well and when driving a season, every point matters. I almost want to say this is the best racing game Codemasters have ever made but I just can't because they raised the bar so damn high with Dirt Rally which might be my game of the generation. F1 2016 isn't far behind though. Fantastic.

Can't get a hang of Austria, all those bumps and weird turn exits makes it hard for me to create a rhythm.

The Monaco track is far and away the best representation in any game so far! Absolutely incredible attention to detail...Mega amount of detail...And the bumps in the road and simply on point....terrifying to drive around!

But didn't come anywhere. Onto Canada now, 23 pts behind Rosberg after some safety car shenanigans screwed me up when in winning positions...

Finally purchased the F1 Thrustmaster wheel attachment. Haven't used it yet, but boy does it look good in person. Yeah I know it's just some expensive piece of plastic. Still, it looks great. And that's my wheel setup I've been using for a few years now. It's the original Rennsport Wheel Stand, Thrustmaster t500, and a Buttkicker Gamer. Feel proud of myself for managing all the cables. And the best part is I can fold it up in 20 seconds so that it can be stored away when not used.

What a bloody fantastic track Baku is to drive around! Glorious if you nail it....Ploughed enough time with the game to know what I'd like to see improved for next year...ill add on here at some point, see if anything twitches your noses...

Great setup. Let me give you a great tip that I found after buying the same rim a couple of weeks ago.

Use the two thumb wheels to control the on screen menu (what you normally do with the dpad)

I use the left wheel to move up and down and the right wheel to move left and right.

I'm telling you, switching from normal fuel mix to rich mix by just flicking the small wheel a couple of notches with your right thumb feels fucking amazing!

Not only is it much more efficient than using the terrible dpad mini joystick that you get on that rim but you also look like a pro driver

Hahaha. Thanks for the tip. Did you make any changes to the ingame wheel settings?

I'll have to check the next time I boot the game at home but from what I remember I didn't change anything (I'm on a TX btw).

Maybe changed the Wheel weight and FFB strenght a bit but that's more a personal taste thing.
