God of War (PC) - Review Thread

what ?!
Blurry sheet?
Lack of post processing?

Just because a game is not using the crappy instagram sharpening filter sweetfx reshade crap, does not mean it lacks postprocessing.
I play on big tv close to my face and it's just games at 1440p or with temporal AA. It's just a normal resolution difference
Reflections, lighting, AA, AO, you name it... on PC you can max those out and it makes a difference. PS4 and PS5 suck at AO for some reason which is a pet peeve of mine.

I have both a gaming PC and PS5 hooked up to the same massive TV and there is a huge difference in IQ even on next-gen vs PC. Every console game feels like there is this slightly blurry sheet over the screen (variable resolution, lack of post processing IQ, etc) where as when I use a PC on that same TV the quality is so good it feels like I can just reach into the screen and pluck out the characters.

I would love to see how R&C and Spider-Man look on on a gaming rig to compare.
Even some games on PC have infuriating vanilla IQ. Last i played was FFVIIR and was a blurry mess before super sampling and a mod for native resolution...

they will do it, if their games sell tons of copies on pc.
You also have to account MS presence in the pc market. Halo and Forza are just the big console Day1. Imagine other Big titles, when they hit day1, same as the console version. Sony will be alarmed, and will want to do day1 too.

That is why competition is better, compared to the xbox one vs the ps4. MS weren't a competition. and now Sony is seeing them as a threat.
Sony don't have a PC store. So they won't make as much as they would on PS5. Also day and date would impact the PlayStation echo system. So no it won't happen. MS are a PC company so it makes sense for them but not for Sony. Sony will still make money on PC even if they release games 1 year down the line.

I've been tempted by this God of War ever since ... 2018. But I'm barely 50% through God of War 1 (2005). Long way to go until I get to this one.

Somehow God of War 2005 is less appealing to me than say ... Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy, Devil May Cry or Darksiders.

You can just jump in and play the new one as its like a soft reboot of the series. Played all the other games in the series you see the game through kratos's eyes, played none you see it through he's sons. Best game of last gen imo, it's brilliant.

I think you guys are being harsh on VFXVeteran. I agree with some of what he means.
Thats why last gen and everytime a new Sony exclusive released, some of you would be like 'Man this is the best looking game ever, not just on console but PC too!', and PC gamers are like -

The problem is that a lot of console only gamers only judge games on PC by crappy bitrate Youtube vids, and dont realize when you play a game on PC at max settings, the extra detail, the extra fine detail, really can make the same game look way better than the same game on console.
Thats why i said the other day how i was a little dissapointed in HZD when i got it on PC, not that it looked bad or anything, it looked great for an open world game, just slightly dissapointing after the hype.

I'll put it another way that might make it easier to understand what i'm saying.

If you did a poll on here, a poll only for PS4 owners, and asked the question - 'What game do you think looks better, HZD or Cyberpunk?', i'd bet the poll results would be 70-80% in favour of HZD, due to the console versions being judged.
Now after trying HZD on PC, and playing Cyberpunk at max settings (albeit at 30fps, pos game lol), Cyberpunk at max settings looks considerably better than HZD on PC.
You mean like this:

Good, i just pre-putchased on steam. Any word if this game supports abxy inputs or am i gonna have to remember which is which again?
GJ now we need Bloodborne with online play.
Hell or even if offline, i just want bloodborne without it looking like ass (because of the chromatic abberation and awkward IQ)

Let's wait for H:FW PS4 vs. PS5. I can't wait to see if there are drastic differences or not. If people shout "higher resolution makes the game feel so much sharper and clear.." then they will understand what a resolution bump can give them. Same with FPS. If it's higher, then they'll love it. I am curious to see what the Sony bros praise to make the PS5 version worth more than the PS4 version.

I see some people losing their minds over a dumb 7/10 review, thats probably cause they haven't watched Yathzee's review yet

BTW - I've not replayed it since 2018 ps4 slim.
So I might either replay it on ps5 or pc. Obviously I already have ps5 version.
Ps5 got some dualsense (even if not native) and the 3d audio with sony pulse headphones right ?!
Is the 3d audio in the pc version? I remember them boasting about 3d audio on original release but I never played it with this... does this even work on ps5 or is ps5 just doing it's generic 3d audio of non 3d games ?

There are no dualsense or 3d audio updates in the PS5 version. It is a BC only game. It actually runs at 60 fps in the unpatched disc version. They made zero other improvements.

Yeah I know but I wonder if the original 3d audio is running through bc mode or is that not working and ps5 3d generic audio is used.
As for dualsense - I know. I just like the controller :p

Yuuuuup

And let’s not even go into the abysmal or non existent anisotropic filtering on consoles, even on PS5 and Xbox series X for fuck sake’s. A feature I’ve been turning on to max for at least 15 years. YouTube hides so many things, looking at game running on monitor and then a video on YouTube, it’s not doing it justice. Only a few sites that uploads very high quality videos (non YouTube) such as sims DF’s patreon content where we can even approach the quality.

Is HDR fixed on pc version?
It was never right on ps. It's either overexposed in the sky or too dark everywhere else if you adjust that

Specs? If I have to pay $3000 just for the GPU alone to get better leaf shadows then to hell with that.

Yet a lot of people told that GoW was one of the best looking games ever.

It's clear that some people need a new pair of eyes...

Wait.....what? You are still comparing God of War to God of War here. The difference is the latest version takes advantage of potentially better hardware. If a game is said to be "one of the best looking game ever" and then the visuals are improved on another platform then that boosts the claims that it is among the best games ever visually. Folks don't need a "new pair of eyes" to see that the game has improved visually.

These super high review scores across the board, just goes to show how low the standards are for a lot of these media outlets, with regards to actual gameplay, as this game is utterly mediocre in that respect. Oh well, at least the glowing reviews and high sales that will likely follow will bode well for the actual good games in the PS exclusive catalogue also becoming available on steam.

I wish letting other people play with the same toys you own, would give you enjoyment out of a shared experience... But nooo, warriors gonna war. Picked the game up to see if it's anything like the old school GoW that I enjoyed on ps2 and psp.

Wish they at least gave us higher res textures and an uplift, instead of the same ps5 version.

Just so you know PC warriors, PS5 version of GoW doesn't exist. What you are comparing against is PS4 Pro version running through BC. So labelling those pics as PS5 is misleading.

I guess the point I'm making here is they didn't have to add FSR, DLSS, or Nvidia Reflex, but they did.

This is the typical dumb comment you get from certain people. Your comparing graphics from a game in 2018 on a 1.85tf machine. Find me better graphics from 2018 on a 2 terflop card eh? We'll wait........
There's nothing impressive in claiming 3080 is going to produce better graphics than a PS4.
I think you should have went to Specsavers!

I dont care about the specs, just as the people said 'amazing looking game' and not 'amazing looking game for a 2 tf machine'.

The game looking average is a fact, even if there are reasons behind it.

Which PS5 version is that then? It's funny how some of you keep on claiming a PS5 version when infact it's just the Pro version running unlocked in BC.

Of course you don't care about the specs. Because if you got a console with equivalent specs to your PC GPU you'd know it would produce better graphics. It's the only reason you have to gloat. GOW on what it was made on is a fantastic looking game.
I'm still waiting for you to find me those graphics from 2018????

Mediocre according to your opinion. Don't try to devalue others just because it doesn't agree with yours. We know certain people are desperate to bring the game down.

Well reading this thread is something else.

I liked the first two games in the series and didn't care for any others. This one worth a try? Haven't enjoyed any Sony exclusives so.

It's very close to the other Sony exclusive template designs and not even close to the origenal style of game. It's up to you really.
