I always find myself confused on whether or not I actually like Megalon or if I like him ironically because he was in a Godzilla movie that was so terrible it was great.

I don't really care about Godzilla specifically, but I like big ass monsters and smashing shit up. Will I like this?

Is renting an option for you?

As a kid, my mom bought me a VHS copy of GvsMegalon and it NEVER WORKED. Tracking was effed beyond repair and looked no better than scrambled porn.

20 some odd years later I get to see it on DVD... boy did I cry for no reason back then haha.

Was it the bootleg edition that somehow found its way into some stores?

My 20 years later story with Vs Megalon was my friends and I all getting together, popping in the VHS, and drinking. I didn't think we'd get more than halfway through the movie, instead we finished the entire movie (and a bottle of Jack) and MST3K'd the absolute shit out of that movie. So I love Godzilla vs Megalon, but not for the right reasons.

I've often wondered if it was bootlegged and we've had bootlegs. But I didn't know they found their way into legit stores. What's the story there?

Edit. It found new use as my recorded copy of the Transformers movie.

I think the curved "meter" is just a design border with no function really. It's like the lines to the left of Height, Disaster Level, and Destruction Rate.

You can't see your health because you don't really have a health gauge. Once the screen starts to turn red, use an R2 or something and you should be back to "full health" after about 5 seconds unless the other kaiju is continuing to wail on you. :x I imagine they decided against one since you're able to "recover" quickly. A few matchups would be pretty intense if you had a health bar that didn't recover.

Godzilla vs Megalon is fucking hilarious. The whole film is just so absurd. It easily attains "so bad it's good" status. Megalon is a solid kaiju, not one my favorites but not bad at all. Dude spits bombs out of his mouth and has drills for hands. He would have been a nice addition to the roster.

You might want to rent this. A lot of my enjoyment from this game really does come from being a Godzilla fan, straight up.

Do Godzilla's Revenge next.

Gigan hasn't been in a good Godzilla film yet we still love him anyway for looking badass with two freaking hooks for hands.

Speaking of which Gigan really does deserve a film with him being the solo antagonist. He hasn't had a shot since his debut movie and that half of that was full of stock footage.

You know, I have a wrinkled list in my wallet with a list of "every" Godzilla film I have and don't have with check marks next to the ones I've acquired since making the list.

However, I don't think this list includes other kaiju movies that featured Godzilla as a "guest". Any kind individual want to link an actual complete list (featuring Godzilla... I tend to ignore non-G flicks)?

I ask because I tend to either find G as a main only lists or every kaiju film ever. It's been a while since I've looked.

He's never been a guest outside of a few episodes of Ultraman.

I don't believe Godzilla has made a "guest appearance" outside his own franchise in the feature film realm. However, he did appear in several episodes of the Zone Fighter series along with King Ghidorah and Gigan. Toho additionally clarified it takes place between Godzilla vs. Megalon and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla in the Showa-era continuity. The MosuGoji costume was recycled into a monster called "Jirass" as part of an episode from the Ultraman series on the chance someone gets it confused as an official appearance.

Final Wars was pretty bad though it had its moments with a good Gigan redesign and Zilla getting wrecked.

Final Wars is in the franchise's top 5, easily. It's campy Godzilla pushed to its logical extreme and is what Destroy All Monsters should have been. It also seems pretty self aware about how OP as fuck Godzilla has become and just runs with that idea, which leads us to Godzilla shooting asteroids out of orbit and running through other kaiju like he's the bad guy in a slasher movie. And then on top of that they so directly take influence from DragonBall Z and even small bits of The Matrix with its human plot.

Final Wars is so absolutely crazy and "Japanese" even by this franchises standards that I can't not love it and I straight up applaud Toho for going this fun and nuts. I want to pretend that the storyboards for this movie involved the director looking at his crew and saying "can we make this crazier?" followed by people nodding their heads and the director saying "then lets do it". I absolutely would not want the franchise to permanently adopt this style, but as a sharp change of pace "lets just have fun" type of movie I think it's b-movie perfection. It's someone making a Godzilla movie based on how everybody played with their Godzilla toys when they were kids.

I'd subjectively say it's also way better than anything the Millenium series put out.

Man I can't believe this movie is 11 years old, fuck. Followed this film so closely leading up to it's release. I really like the movie, but I consider it a guilty pleasure. Cheese is through the roof, really fun movie, and I love that opening montage.

While you were following it closely, I went into Final Wars completely blind. I literally walked into a store and saw it on a shelf and went "oh, a new Godzilla movie came out?". Then I watched it and I saw that intro and I was like

GIF-amazing-beard-jesus-omfg-OMG-shocked-wow-GIF.gif

That intro is pure hype. I think the best way to sum up Final Wars is "if they made a Godzilla anime, this is what you'd get". Since I mentioned my group viewing of Vs Megalon with my friends, Final Wars is another one that got a group viewing. That movie went over really well with my friends.

After spending more time with them, I do wish they would have just given 70s MG one moveset and just had 74 and 75 as skin swaps.

75's back+∆ is a great stagger ability and 74 can't compete on that front. 74 does have a chest laser (back+O) that staggers as but it requires super energy and has less range...which sucks. Seemingly as a trade off, 74s R2 sheild lasts longer, which is a big deal for both offense and defense. It not only protects you from damage and you can pull off a combo or two before it dissipates, which can do some impressive damage. I think they're about equal all things considering but given some of the broken characters in the game, I'd be OK with MG getting the best of both worlds.

I love his moveset aesthetics overall though, pulling of an all out attack like from the movies looks great.

So by my list, there are 28 films, I'm missing 8. My confusion started when I found Mothra vs Godzilla while my list has it as Godzilla vs Mothra (aka The Thing). Without researching, I think I was under the impression this was a different film with Mothra as the lead so to speak. Looking at wikipedia again, I see it has all three titles. So I'm good.

But I'm really not good without Godzilla 84/85.

gigan: looks badass but sucks ass

also still havent gotten jj to show up 3 times but ill try again later today

Poor poor gigan. His super is too short and does little damage, his drill rush has too much startup time and no superarmor to protect himself, his lasers go every which way, and his spinning projectiles are garbage.

I played against a guy using him and it was just a sad uphill battle for the guy.

Jet Jaguar at least has a decent super to space himself out and has movement options, however bad the rest of his attacks may be.

Nevermind I though Yuji Shimomura worked on Godzilla: Final Wars with Ryuhei Kitamura. They've worked together in many movies but not in Final Wars.

I got this game today, and have played a few hours. Just wann throw my opinion in as a fan of Godzilla, but only based on having seen the very first one. I'll keep it short...

Basically, I fucking love it. I feel like, if you have a baseline interest in Godzilla and Kaiju, this may make you want to get even more into it. I know I definitely will be seeking out more kaiju films (any reccomendations are super appreciated :D) but its just... very fun to smash shit up and face off against other giant monsters. It really does capture that feel of being a gigantic, lumbering force of destruction but still manages to be fun. I kinda liken it to Katamari devoted to pure destruction. Its very satisfying to wreck shit.

I haven't had such pure, unbridled fun with a game in a long time like I have with this game. Its just... there. No pretense, no frills. I can play though God of Destruction over and over and over again and its always fun. Maybe its because Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee was the first game outside of Pokemon that I really played and played and played. I was 10 when it came out and its the reason I got a GameCube. This game brings back that feeling.

LMAO i can believe that.

top 3 worst kaiju

1. angarius
2. gigan
3. space godzilla

anyone agree/disagree?

Final wars is like the other M of godzilla movies, it is shocking how many people dont like that movie.
I might have enjoyed it more if Godzilla's face hadn't been so derpy. It was distracting in how bad it looked. The entire suit design was off

I honestly didn't mind the matrix ripoff human stuff but overall it just felt like fluff which I no desire to watch again

It seems like just about everyone who has this game has enjoyed it. Is it rare that such a "badly reviewed" game has such a completely opposite reaction from those who actually purchased it?

Its not rare. Unlikely, but definitely not rare. Happened a few times last gen.

He never appears in my GoD mode. I need to unlock him and I think two other Kaiju.

I guess I'm "unlucky" as the game states as in Kaiju will be much bigger than Godzilla. Right after I go ashore, if I choose the hard (bottom) path, whatever monster I have to fight next always seems to be 100m tall. Usually Mothra (Larva) or Battra. There's no way for me to get that big just from the first stage. I pretty much get assaulted, I run away, wait for it to get close then press R2 to do that roar attack and run away again. Makes the fight last like 30 min. Sometimes they are like 55m on that stage but for me, more often than not, whoever I'm fighting is like 100m tall. Also, I learned to use that roar attack to really up my multiplier. I was growing so fast I was about 10m - 12m taller than most of the Kaiju I had to fight. I got all the data last night and now I just need to unlock the remaining monsters.

ok what you you need to do is on stages 1, 7, 16 get 50-55% destruction and destroy all generators before a kaiju shows up, but you gotta do it fast.

trust me he'll pop up

There are requirements to get Jet Jaguar to show up?

EDIT: Looked it up. Got it. But the first stage a Kaiju never shows up. At least not as Godzilla.

dont go ashore, instead invade mode as another kaiju (could use godzilla 1964 or hollywood G), and follow the requirements

Got Jet Jaguar trophy. All I need is to max level all of the monsters and unlock all of the figures. Now that's time consuming, but I'll do it.

yeah on the same boat

i'll do it little by little though. dont want to burn myself out
Everyone but Godzilla, Burning Godzilla, and Godzilla 1964 should be easy though. They are the only ones with an extra move tree.

I've already maxed out Godzilla and Burning Godzilla. In getting close with Godzilla 2014 and Mecha King Ghidorah.

Final Wars is amazing, its so damn entertaining. It did take a few viewings for it to really grow on me though. GMK is still my favorite, followed by 54, but Final Wars is up there.

It's much easier to get Jet Jaguar initially with Go Ashore on stage 1. Just destroy everything you can along the right side and then destroy one or two things on the left, then destroy the generator ASAP. We don't really know what the time limit is but if you're not quick enough, he won't spawn. Japanese players think it might be between 2 and 3 minutes.

JJ only shows up in one stage (either paired or solo I think in 15/16?) later on in Invade mode with the same requirements as in Go Ashore but when I went against him as Biollante in stage 16, he was 100m, lol. He is usually 50/60/80 in his Go Ashore encounters, I think.

Also Raptomex, when you go against those 100m kaiju in the initial hard stages, just let them win and try again. They should reset to 55m after the first encounter. It is possible to beat them with beams at that point, but it's a bit frustrating IMO.

Interestingly enough, Europe seemed to have gotten a physical release of the PS3 version of the game!

Game just finished downloading and I caught chills watching that opening cinematic. Hollywood godzilla looks so much better in this then he did in the movie

So basically in order to unlock everything I have to beat story mode in every one?

I can see why people think controls are a pain but makes sense for controlling monsters this big

Could godzilla die in the main campaign? I don't see a health bar, he gets shot every which way but I just keep crushing things.

What about that sweeping breath, a little hard to pull off at times

The military can't hurt you until much later.

Also, to unlock everything you'll probably need to play through God of Destruction 4-5 times with each monster.
