Happy Easter GAF: Japan Monthly Charts: January 2006

Any third-party software totals available for PSP+DS?

I would imagine the DS has run up a lead now thanks to Tamagotchi amongst others, but scanning over the chart again it appears fairly even (with Tamagotchi a big outlier).

Looks like it'll push past 1 million in 3 or 4 months.

It'll probably do so faster than I anticipated, which was the end of 2006.

Hope Mario 64 reaches there, too. It'd be a shame if Tamagotchi got there but not SM64DS.

Well, the launch of the DSlite might help push Super Mario 64DS. It's pretty common knowledge to pick up a Mario game with a new Nintendo system. :p

I hope it makes it too.

When's that new mario bro's game come out again?

Very true culex, but then again I actually can see a few Japan numbers, so it's easier to question.

Have you added the week of 23 - 29? Or maybe I jsut added wrong

cvxfreak where do you get these numbers?

DS sold around ~ 430,000 in January from Media Create

The chart includes the final week of December.

You might as well ask where sonycowboy and bunkum get their stuff. :p

14 months (December 04-January 06).

It's amazing how the million sellers seem to keep stacking up over and over. Pretty soon Wario will join the ranks, Tamagotchi's got it in the bag and Mario's close. I think Eigo Zuke (English Training) will also get there, as will New Super Mario Bros., and Pokemon DP. Hopefully more third party games break into the million ranks like Final Fantasy III.

It's pretty stunning that Nintendo has had this much success in the first year of the machine, but it makes it hard to contemplate the levels of pwnage that might happen in 2006 with games like New Super Mario Bros and Pokemon on the horizon. But I do have to say one thing...

Animal Crossing approaching 2 million!? When was the last time a Nintendo game sold 2 million in Japan!? That's fucking insane, and a real show of return to form. Haters be damned - Nintendo is back in the driving seat.

Pokemon notwithstanding, I agree.

Pokemon was published by Pokemon Co., so technically...

Now you mention it, it's worth pointing out that Nintendo will be publishing Pokemon Ranger by themselves, so maybe the Pokemon roster is back on the Nintendo label? That could make the numbers very impressive at the end of the year.

Come this time next year that chart will be full of Rev/DS games only in the top 10 with 1 or 2 PS3 games inbetween. Don't believe me? Save this thread

DS software is just insane. HOLY CRAP.

I think those DS Pokemon games will outsell GBA Ru/Sh. I think they will sell 3 million each. The Pokemon dungeon titles has sold around 700k each right? Amazing for a spinoff.

AC will be breaking 2.5-3 million shortly after DS Lite arrival. AC now cemented itself up there with Pokemon, FF, DW league.

FF III will also pulled huge numbers. I think it'll outsell Tamagotchi as the best third party seller. Bandai must be laughing all the way to the bank right now. Tamagotchi sequel could be reveal anyday now. :lol

And New Super Marios Bros. will be a mega hit. These folks just snatched up 1,000,000 copies of FC Mini SMB like nothing.

Including the Pokemon Company, Nintendo's Top 100 software sales were 4,480,582 (without Pokemon Co.= 4,088,756). That's just for the January chart! Obviously it'll fall off a good bit in February, but the sales should still be amazing.

I wonder what the all-time record for software sold by a single publisher in a year is in Japan. Surely Nintendo has a chance to break that record if they can somewhat maintain this pace.

SE is off to a good start as well, especially compared to last year.

I love the monthly Famitsu numbers!

DS as usual, monster!
Nice numbers for Square-Enix, even though the quality is not always there (DoC lol...).

I forget, are the BT games $20?

I thought KHII would be the best selling game in Japan for the moment. But Animal Crossing totally owned it and then some.

This would be very interesting to know.
With Zelda TP; New Super Mario DS; Metroid Hunters and Brain Training in the west: Rev launch titles with possibility of Mario and SSB I think Nintendo have a chance of pulling big big sales this year.
I’d also go as far as to say with the DSlite release in the east and west and the Rev launch, hardware numbers are probably going to be massive too.

What is the most in a year?

At E3 2004, George Harrison said that Nintendo sold more hardware in 2003 than they ever had in their history to that point.

I don't know about 2004, though. 2005 is also a bit iffy.

Crap, forgot about AC as well. :lol Man, 2 Nintendo games beating out a top tier Square game in Japan on the PS2. Insane.

And is Brain Training 20 bucks?

I love this charts...more than any other numbers *.*

TotA not bomba, going ToR way to 600k
Ryu ga Gotoku has legs, already 325k
Rogue Galaxy not bomba either, near 350k
Resident Evil 4 at 425k, nice numbers.

Well, more love in a month I hope :)

Nintendo from the Nes era created unbreakable records. But it's good to see Nintendo achieve these DS scores considering the competition they now face.

:lol oh my god.

It's scary to think that 4 of the DS million sellers are still the top 4 selling pieces of software on the system, each of those 4 selling more than the best selling game of Jan 2006 on every other system...and all the million sellers are still in the system's top 10 selling games.

Tamagotchi Corner Shop is about to break 1 million in the next 2 weeks too.

oh, and DS software sales > everything else combined

FFIII in the million rank? I will be extremely surprised if that happens.

If a traditional DS game like Mario Kart can break a million, I don't see any reason why the remake of a classic Final Fantasy game can't do it either. Same with SMB DS and Pokemon.

Unlikely... But we will see. I will be extremely surprised if the game can even go through the 500k mark.

Thank you cvxfreak, as usual your work is very appreciated !

Of course DS chart has been updated, i was luck to have a friend in Japan who brought me a Famitsu issue from January, i found a top30 DS chart so finally i got the total sold from "Kimi no Tame Nara Shineru" (Feel the Magic for you, western guys) and some other nice data, so happy cause the chart became more accurate.

After January monthly we can see JSS finally reached half million score and Wario still have legs, maybe it will reach million mark too, while it's a little difficult for Mario to reach the same score.

DS is breaking records month after month, so how many records will break new Super Mario Bros ?

But I thought FFIII wasn't one of the more popular FF games.

Well before we hope that it breaks all-time records, let's hope its the best Mario Bros. title yet, mmm'kay? :)

I think it was the first FF to break a million units in Japan. And it hasn't been revisited since. I'm sure it can do close to a million, if not pass it.
