Media Create Sales: 03/23 - 03/29

Actual M-C HW numbers

DSi 57,401
PSP 54,148
PS3 22,825
Wii 17,276
DS Lite 8,408
PS2 5,246
Xbox 360 4,849

No 360 games in the Top 50. I think it's safe to say the 360's surge is over.

Are western games like James Bond translated for Japanese? Or do the few who buy western games in Japan not care?

So that's 5 weeks in a row, and counting? Any bets if it can hold out until FFXIII demo?

It'll hold out til then methinks now that we've seen Media Create numbers.

After that? Well, I can't shake the suspicion that the next time it will be on top will be when Final Fantasy XIII releases, and that may very well be the last time.

Do we have any idea of the number of the FFVII PS3 they are releasing? I think its safe to assume the PS3 hardware will be that and then some.

One thing to keep in mind is that a good number of those who are going to buy FFXIII on the PS3 already have a PS3. The demo will definitely cause a significant bump in sales, but if there's 200K bundles (just throwing a largish number out there), I do not believe that all 200K would be snapped up in the first couple of weeks.

I think saying there'll be 50K bundles is more realistic and that will definitely be sold out.

50K, I agree. I was just pointing out that it wouldn't be "that and then some," regardless, even keeping it to a not-outrageous level like 200K. Most PS3 bundles lately seem to be 10K each from Kurosaki Ichigo's comments, though. However, that is for games.

Any idea of how many copies of Advent Children were sold on DVD? I thought we got that number some time back.

Yeah, it will outsell Wii YTD

PS3 is already ahead YTD. If you mean by the end of year, I really don't think so.

Sony should use some of their PSP selling tactics on the PS3.

For example, I'm sure sales would spur if they started releasing new colors for the PS3 every three days.

What are the huge Wii games coming out this year?

Monster Hunter 3
Wii Sports Resort
Tales of Graces
Samurai Warriors 3

Those are the guaranteed great sellers. The system of course has several other games coming out that might sell decently:

Oboro Murasama
Arc Rise Fantasia
Deca Sporta 2
Monster Hunter G
Little King's Story
Kizuna
Final Fantasy Crystal Chonicles: the Crystal Bearers
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games 2

That can actually increase sales? Whatever big stuff Nintendo comes out with from Wii Sports Resort on + Monster Hunter 3. Based on Reggie's comments, it looks like that won't be revealed until E3, though. :(

Edit:
As far as speculative stuff that Nintendo could announce that would help sales, as I've posted before,

* More Wii Fit (with optional Motion+ support; uses Wii Fit channel to track work in both original game and its expansion)
* Wario Ware WiiBo (with optional Motion+ support but primarily WiiBo usage)
* Mario or Zelda spin-off packaged with Motion+ ala Link's Crossbow Training
* Mario Party 9 with Balance Board support

DQ:Swords 2 with Motion+ support should be pretty big, too, if it comes out.

Judging by UC's performance, Darkside Chronicles should do comparable to something like ToG.

Also, aren't Sin and Punishment and those other games announced in October supposed to be on target for '09 in Japan?

To be honest I wasn't sure how well the original Sin and Punishment did in Japan, nor do I have high hopes for any of those other games (such as Dynamic Slash or Cosmic Walker) doing decently. I would love to be proven wrong though.

Also, did anyone notice that a few sites are listing MadWorld for Japanese release? I wonder if it's coming out there.

I still see Wii YTD > PS3 YTD.

On what the FFXIII Demo? It is barely ahead after the orgy of AAA/Big Name titles and you think that will last another 8 months?

The FFXIII demo, and... perhaps... the full game too, since we're talking about the whole year. I would think that might spur a couple sales too?

The FFXIII demo will probably be even more front-loaded than the game will be. You can't expect that to hold over the PS3 for 8 months (although I seriously, seriously doubt the full version of FFXIII to be released ANYWHERE this year. Mid to late next year seems more likely)

D'oh. I was looking at the listing for my graphs which goes by NPD months. By that method of calculation, PS3 is ahead 287K to 270K YTD. By the normal Japanese tracking method of using every week that ends in a certain year as part of that year, the Wii is still ahead 390K to 348K, though. Sorry for the confusion.

Nintendo could use that same strategy to spur Wii sales, it worked for the DS.

Nintendo needs to drop the price in Japan. $250 for Wii+Wii Sports in the U.S. is ~24900 Yen. The Wii without Wii Sports is 25000 Yen in Japan. Either drop the price or start bundling games. Maybe start bundling Wii Sports when Wii Sports Resort comes out?

Why not just bundle Wii Sports Resort with the system and motion plus for 25000 yen?

That would fly off the shelves.

Well if it kept above 20k it would be above Wii too - but I meant the latter - since we're talking about a streak and all.
There's two MC weeks left before the demo hits right?

But Wii Sports Resort by itself would sell more software to those who already own a Wii

Donny had it right by bundling Wii Sports with Wiis as is done in the US and EU, Wii Sports is no longer in the Top 30 so its not like it would hurts its standalone sales

Were there really that many big games released though? Street Fighter 4, Yakuza 3, Resident Evil 5 and maybe Musou Orochi Z (dont know how big this is), and maybe White Knight Chronicles, but i dont know if that counts for 2008 or for 2009 (it was released in late 2008 at least). Or am i forgetting some games?

Only 17,000 Wii's? The PS3 is beating it in sales? Wow, I haven't checked out the Japanese sales for a while but last time it was more like the Wii selling 3 times as many as the PS3 and the PS3 trying to outsell the 360.

PS3 had Yakuza 3, Resident Evil 5, and Musuo Orochi Z all hit with in consecutive weeks, which helped boost sales quite a bit. The Wii is going through a bit of a drought right now.
