I don't think it sold much more than 55k. It was going doing every week even though it was December. Even if it was at 31st place for weeks 51 an 52 the maximum it would have sold for 2006 would be 30k more. We are most likely lookind at a LTD<100K.

With Captain Smoker's help I found 2007 first half top 100 and I remembered of Donkey Kong Land 2. The cut-off for 100 was 63.201 and the specific game wasn't in the list.

Is Galaxy 2 having supply problems? It is sold out at amazon the last 3 days with the next shipment scheduled for June 12. At least it doesn't follow the price drops the original had.

What game is this surpassing? And what is ahead of it prior to 15 years?

So if they make a game like Galaxy, which franchise should they use instead of Mario? I think this would cost them a lot of 3D Mario fans, and I'm not convinced that "2D Mario that is more inspired by 3D" and "3D Mario that is more inspired by 2D" would be distinct enough to warrant two separate franchises like 3D Mario and 2D Mario in their current form.
You're kinda forgetting, though, that Console Mario has really only been split between 2D and 3D for half a year. It's only the hardcore fans who play Mario on all types of consoles and handhelds and really have this image of a separation between 2D and 3D "franchises".

But I admit, these fans would probably have to adjust. And I think fans are capable of doing that.

This is excellent stuff and I fully agree!

What I'd love to see is the purist platforming of the 2D Super Mario games reinvented in 3D. For example, in SMB World 1- Level 3 you have an entire level which involves traversing and jumping across a series of bridges (the entire level is really one long bridge). I'd love to see "levels" like that represented in 3D. Or another example, jumping and traversing the giant mushroom pads in SMB to get to the end of the level. Just purist platforming like that presented in 3D.

The concept of "tasks" to earn a star in the 3D Mario games just doesn't gel in the same way and feels alien to the Super Mario series.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. Bring the exhilaration of fast-paced jump after jump after triple jump across these long stretches of levels into 3D. You'd think Mario would have had a game like that by now, wouldn't you? Isn't it odd that Super Paper Mario is the closest it's come? :lol

Even Mirror's Edge has come closer... <_<

Can you make money off a PS2 release that sells 4000 units? Like, wouldn't the costs to start the production line be too expensive for that? lol

Hey, Milestone sold 900 copies of Radio Allergy Noa in the 1st week and they're still kicking.

...

For how much longer?

Point is, I guess some devs have their ways, and they can live off of tiny sales? Hell Zoonami went 7 years or so since being formed without releasing anything, but that's a different story.

That's just how far back our data goes. It is probably a few years before that to find another game higher, but we just don't have the data to support saying anything more than "in the last 15 years."

Kind of disappointed with MGS Peace Walker sales.

I thought it could at least break a million.

Hopefully it sells a lot here but it sucks with piracy being such a problem.

Is there any console game that could have sold more than DQVII but less than SMB?

If I have time, I'll search to see if DQVII's milestone was reported.

But 3D Mario in it's current form has existed since Mario 64. It's all the fans of 3D Mario since 1996 that would have to "adjust".

Here's why I don't like the idea. When Mario Galaxy allowed you to run 360 degrees around or inside objects (on walls or upside down) it was almost like adding an extra dimension to the gameplay and it felt like as big a leap with the same feeling of freshness as going from 2D to 3D in the first place. (Something I didn't think possible beforehand.) This is the primary reason Mario Galaxy is so amazing in my eyes and doing what you're asking for would not only remove this dimension but also be a step back even from Mario 64. I mean, what's the point of 3D if you're only running in a straight line?

That's my personal reason for objecting, but the other part of my point (again) is that I don't see this subdued version of 3D Mario as different enough from 2D Mario to warrant treating them as two different franchises.
