Has Kirby's Epic Yarn seen a price drop?
It has pretty good legs, of course the absolute number isn't too impressive.

I can't recall the original shipment number.
EDIT - Ahh, Dengeki had it at 235k.

How are the legs of Kirby usually? I heard everyone of them (or at least the recent ones) do make it over 1mil.

Is Epic Yarn going much slower than the previous ones?

Squeek Squard and Super Star Ultra did.
Canvas Curse didn't, and Epic Yarn is doing better.

Power of Matsuno. This pretty much ensures that S-E will be interested in working with Matsuno on the Ogre Battle series in future. NEW GAME PLZ.
Matsuno once put up on Twitter that a game he was working on had sales expectations of 100k and that the budget was really limiting what he could do. Something like having to cut out a third of the planned features.

I assume it was Tactics Ogre, which means that this greatly beat expectations, and only in one region to boot.

Nice Tactics Ogre sales. Wii sales up due to colors or new Mario collection? Give me more new games!

And what's the US release for Tactics Ogre?

It's also weird seeing GT5 under the releases. I get a rush of nostalgia since it's a long running series. It's finally really coming. Bundled I assume?

So nice for Tactics Ogre, and wow at Dragon Ball decline. Its gone downhill on all platforms, on DS, PSP, PS3/360, Wii... comparison in release order on the platforms:

[PS3] Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit (Bandai Namco) - 82.010 / 163.010
[360] Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit (Bandai Namco) - 13.233 / 25.051
[PS3] Dragon Ball: Raging Blast (Bandai Namco) - 63.641 / 124,041
[360] Dragon Ball: Raging Blast (Bandai Namco) - 6.943 / 10,816
[PS3] Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 (Bandai Namco) - 47.610 / 47.610 (Famitsu data pending)
[360] Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 (Bandai Namco) - ? / ? (Famitsu data pending)

[NDS] Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 (Bandai) - 42.280 / 317,078
[NDS] Dragon Ball Z: Harukanaru Goku Legend (Bandai Namco) - 62.210 / 150.724
[NDS] Dragon Ball: Origins (Bandai Namco) - 88.439 / 214,195
[NDS] Dragon Ball Kai: Attack of the Saiyans (Bandai Namco) - 101.216 / 192.200
[NDS] Dragon Ball: Origins 2 (Bandai Namco) - 19.471 / 59,511

[WII] Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (Bandai Namco) - 42.501 / 165.969
[WII] Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (Bandai Namco) - 34.783 / 90.255
[WII] Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Picollo (Bandai Namco) - 11.359 / 44,160

[PSP] Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai (Bandai Namco) - 61.469 / 140.863
[PSP] Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai - Another Road (Bandai Namco) - 41.988 / 97.739
[PSP] Dragon Ball: Evolution (Bandai Namco) - 1.800 / 1.800
[PSP] Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team (Bandai Namco) - 20,865 / 44,012

I'm sure Bandai won't stop but they crashed it on PS3/360 with both Raging Blast, on DS Origins 2 crashed as well, on PSP they stopped after Shin Budokai 2 and tried to resumed it with a multiplayer-focused one just to crash as well. On Wii their PS2 ports didn't pick up as the PS2 ones went down, tried something different and did even worse.

Guess 3DS is next while they change the formula on PS3/360.

EDIT: Btw, SCEJ seems to be on a quest to release as many bundles as possible, there's two more announced:
12/9 Black 160GB PS3 + Move + Furi Furi Ape Escape - 36980Y
12/16 Black 160GB PS3 + Move + Sports Champions - 36980Y
Trying to move some move eh (pun intended)

The Wii got a bigger boost than I expected, should be on ahead of the PS3 until GT5 week.

Two weeks is better than nothing I suppose.

The problem with the current gen Dragonball Z games is that they haven't even been able to match the content of the last gen PS2 games, but all the games still are based on the PS2 ones, so they also suffer from the natural sales loss due to lack of attracting power for new users and also lost sales due to that lack of content compared to previous titles. And the Raging Blast games have been released during DB Kai's airing in Japan, which has been successful, so it's not a decrease of interest on the franchise in general. They only have themselves to blame for this.

Burst Limit was a Budokai with new features and system changes, but a vastly decreased cast, less characters than Budokai 1. Rather than bumping the sales with the next gen transition, it just sold even worse than Budokai 3.

Then... rather than revaluing their atittude... they went and did the exact same thing to the Sparking/Tenkaichi series. Raging Blast was clearly based on Tenkaichi gameplay-wise, but had less content than the first Tenkaichi game. So, it sold worse than any Tenkaichi game, not benefiting from the generation change at all.

Same thing for Raging Blast 2 - which still had less content than the Tenkaichi from last gen, but had nothing to attract new players aside from a remake of an OVA (and, considering how DVD sales are much lower than game sales in Japan, they should have known that an OVA wouldn't do much for the sales of this game).

Considering their total mishandling of their failures so far, I expect to see a Raging Blast 3 with some other useless fanservice extra which will yet again perform even worse than the previous titles.

I don't know what happened with Origins 2 though, never followed that series.

Any word how that stacks up against original releases? (IIRC FFT was higher, but no idea bout TO).

Depends on the definition of bump. ;)
Going back from 2100 to 2600 would make for a nice PR in the way of "increasing our sales by more than 25%"...:lol

At the same time, it falls behind (temporarily?) Gold/Silver.

Rune Factory Frontier was a Wii exclusive. So was Rune Factory Oceans at one point, Marvelous Entertainment representatives revealed during the Q&A at a recent investors meeting.

Said an MMV representative, "Rune Factory Oceans was originally planned to be developed exclusively for Wii. However, after looking into the needs of the market, we switched it to PS3 multiplatform."

The statement was in response to a question about Oceans possibly indicating MMV's intention to make PS3 and Wii multiplatform development the norm. The responder noted that there are cases, as with titles that are strong overseas or target core users, where Marvelous took a multiplatform strategy on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. "In the event that a multiplatform game is being planned, we'd like to select the hardware based off the target of each game."

The Q&A session also saw some commentary about MMV's 3DS plans. The company has multiple titles in development for the system. Development costs for these range from a minimum of 70 million yen to a maximum of 150 million yen.

The company also disclosed midterm sales results. These are shipments through the end of September:

•No More Heroes Heroes' Paradise: 27,500 (PS3), 21,000 (X360)
•Ikki Tousen Xross Impact: 33,500 (PSP)
•Harvest Moon Twin Village: 168,700 (DS)
•Fate/Extra: 104,600 (PSP)
Harvest Moon has since topped the 177,000 mark due to repeat orders.

For the last half of the year, the company plans shipments of 110,000 units across four titles. Included among these is Wii's No More Heroes 2 (released 10/21), which has shipped over 21,000 units and has already met expectations.

It's not a RPG sequel to Monolithsoft's DB Kai though. It's a fighting game. Dragonball Kai Ultimate Butoden.

It's not a RPG sequel to Monolithsoft's DB Kai though. It's a fighting game. Dragonball Kai Ultimate Butoden.
Assumed too much, should have known I couldn't trust Bandai.

Btw with this Monolithsoft and Xenoblade talk, isn't it unusually long for some news from Monolithsoft, Tri-Crescendo and Tri-Ace (I know the last two doesn't belong, but somehow I mix them all in my mind).

Interesting, thread worthy IMO. What are these market needs? Maybe future games that are more JP focused will be Wii/PS3 exclusive in the future

That's absolutely a given and was as soon as the Slim launched.

The Black & White case is curious. So that's how a Pokémon game's sales go when it's released close to the end of it's platform life cycle? Huge first week sales and then the abyss.

When does the B/W bundle come out?

Pokémon becoming frontloaded is surprising.
That's what I thought too, but what slaughter said makes more sense. You would have seen D/P trend the same if the initial shipments were adequate. I guess you could say its more frontloaded but with the beast legs Pokemon games normally have.

I actually discussed this exact thing with charlequin very recently. It's not actually unusual for Monolithsoft at all, because they just finished Xenoblade and SRW OG Saga 2 this year. Their games usually run on 2 year dev cycles, so we won't hear anything until next year. They're hiring programmers for shaders too, so that pretty much confirms they're working on 3DS stuff too. I wouldn't expect to see anything from that until 2012 at the earliest though.

tri-Ace definitely has a project which should have already been announced, judging from their release cycles. It has either been delayed/canned, or the publisher is waiting on the announcement to do less long term marketing. Their next game should be using the next major version upgrade of their inhouse ASKA engine.

Tri-Crescendo is probably in a lot of trouble imo. I think they might be owned by Namco Bandai Games, but I'm not 100% sure. Either way they have only developed games published by NBGI and they've pretty much all bombed. The last two (Fragile and Blue Dragon Awakened Shadow) were projects which were delayed for a substantial amount of time as well, and subsequent did really awful sales. With NBGI losing money, Tri-Crescendo might well be done for. There is a small off chance though, that Namco is capitalizing on their technical abilities and they could be developing the PS3 Tales Of. This is unlikely, but if it is the case that would be the only way I see them surviving the chopping block if it's a success.

That was not a given as soon as the slim launched, for one, the userbase difference between the Wii and PS3 is still significant and 2) I do remember plenty of people saying the Slim effect would be short lived and people were even surprised at how big of a spike the PS3 got short term. Regardless it'll be interesting going forward to see whether or not the next iterations of JP centric franchises from 3rd parties end up being Wii only or PS3/Wii.

Pokemon Black/White are also unprecedented in that they're a unique generation on a platform that already had an entire generation of Pokemon games, the most recent release being just a year prior (HeartGold/SoulSilver). The build up and transition from D/P/Pt/HG/SS to B/W was direct and pretty smooth, I'd say.

The userbase was already guaranteed to be there, so they were far more likely to turn up in from the start than when Diamond/Pearl came out (which was when DS hardware and even software plasic were in short supply). They had the hardware, unless they wanted to try the DSi functions, and they had the means to move onto the next games by being able to migrate their old Pokemon including ones they had acquired from way back in the GBA games. Hence, the 2.6 million sold in the first 2 days. It doesn't surprise me that BW couldn't keep exceeding DP week on week.

Where does the manual of VS mention Ivalice? I have checked the JP manual and I have the VS Ultimania. Ivalice is never mentioned in any official Vagrant Story document.

Aren't they usually working on at least three games in parallel? Honne teased a new project back in May, so that should be rather far along - especially if it's a handheld (3DS?) title.

I would think that if it didn't beat GT3 first week and GT4 LTD it would have to be considered a major disappointment.

tri-Ace used to do only one game every two years before they suddenly had the mass of releases this gen thanks to more outsourcing. Possibly that change didn't do them any good so they switched back to their old slow style?

tri-Crescendo is privately owned (at least it still was at the beginning of this year). But as a small developer they apparently can't or don't get to make higher profile games (interestingly enough all of their developed games got localized in NA and EU so far, so they apparently know how to ensure that income). The fact that central figure like Shuhei Rokumoto moved to Platinum Games likely is an indication that tri-Crescendo first needs to earn reputation again.

The odds of GT5 beating GT4 are prety prety low... It not only would have to sell to 20% of the userbase, but it would have to reverse a trend started with GT2 (each new game selling less than the previous one).

Yeah, I think that was the general consensus from several months back, too. Something like 800K-1.1m was the general expected range, IIRC.

I think the outsourcing was only done so they could release IU and SO4 on schedule. Based on the credits and interviews for EoE/RoF, I would say that game is very much done in the "old" style of being mostly internal and taking quite a long time. But even so, it has been almost 2 years since SO4 was released, and it's very unlikely that many people were involved in the PS3 port. They should definitely be announcing a game either by the end of this year or sometime early next year.

tri-Crescendo is privately owned (at least it still was at the beginning of this year). Honestly, I think unless something changes dramatically, they're pretty much finished. Baten Kaitos is pretty much their only claim to fame, and that was a collaboration with Monolithsoft. Their only completely independent project has been Trusty Bell/Eternal Sonata, and that was a total piece of turd in design and writing. Since then they've done another two collaborations (Fragile with the Venus&Braves director/producer, Blue Dragon AS with Mistwalker), and they didn't remotely turn out to be anything that excited anyone. Can't really see them getting the budget from any publisher for any big independent project again, and I can't see many developers wanting to work with them either.
