Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2016 (Sep 05 - Sep 11)

Do Japanese players do give much of a fuck about PRO though? Considering they're really don't tend to be interested in graphical power (with the next gen consoles taking longer to get good sales compared to the west).

With the slim not launching until tomorrow, I'm not sure what you want people interested in a PS4 to buy.

So, are there still people who think that 2016 will end up higher than 2015? With this numbers, Sony conference, and the rest of releases for this year, this seems another inevitable year of declining. Let's pray for 2017.

It's still ahead YTD compared to last year and with 2 hardware launches there's 0 chance it will not end the year ahead as well. Not sure what you mean by the bolded.

So, prediction for PS4 next week? I think it could be almost 100k.

At least 70/80K I hope, maybe 100K with the Persona 5 push ? One thing at least seems pretty clear from those two or three previous weeks : the people who could not buy a PS4 did not buy another system instead.

I'm talking about Software, and overall platforms. The new games announced on Sony's Conference are launching all of them in 2017 (except Saga for Vita). Even games originally planned for 2016 were delayed (Nioh, New Minna no Golf, KH2.8, Gran Turismo...).

There was a believe the first half of the year that with all the games launching by the end of the year plus Pokemon Sun / Moon, 2016 might stop the decline for the japanese market. But it seems that all hopes are for next year, again.

Total hardware sales of 36K for the week.
Stay strong Japan.

HW was going to be down YoY since when Nintendo pushed back NX to early 2017.

I wanted to say above 80K, but I was worried that would be overly optimistic. :p

Considering how PS3 Slim sold 151k first week I don't see 80k overly optimistic for PS4 slim. Especially with Persona 5 hitting the console same week. You can say that the market was different but PS3 in 2009 was actually trailing behind this years PS4 numbers before Slim. (817k vs 652k).

Well how many sales have Sony lost due to supply constraints the last few weeks. Wouldn't it need to sell 60k just to make up for those?

Also DB Fusions legs still looking great. Game is a big success for Bamco.

I say 90,000. All between the 70-120K range could be likely, under that would be very disappoint, over very great.

But what if in the end the truth is that all wait the 2DS and no one give about the PS4 slim...?

Hope Sony didn't lose a lot of potential customers by not putting any stock for like 3 weeks.

Next week PS4 has to sell like 50k to even out the lost sales.

Well, then, 100K for the PS4 next week seems quite likely.

It was more about the "waiting for PRO" comments. I would say a lot of japanese guys rather have a Slim and a cheaper console than PRO.

Yeah, with that I agree. I thought you meant the very low sales didn't make sense when you don't think people are waiting for a Pro. We'll see next week if PS4 Slim launches with solid sales.

I assume the PS3 Slim received a hefty price cut compared to the old one.

In the West it got 50$ cheaper "officially" I think, in reality it's basically the same price, unless retailers will be having discounts on Slim's price.

Well, then, 100K for the PS4 next week seems quite likely.

Yeah. I would also personally go with something like 100k too. Of course it could be that I am wrong and most people are right but I personally see all under 80k predictions overly pessimistic. It's new model with price drop and big software release. Even new model of Vita made sales jump from 3.5k to 60k and it didn't even come with price drop or big software back in 2013.

I assume the PS3 Slim received a hefty price cut compared to the old one.

Is the PS4 Slim cheaper than the base model?

In the West it got 50$ cheaper "officially" I think, in reality it's basically the same price, unless retailers will be having discounts on Slim's price.

PS3 Slim received 10k price drop (from 39,980 yen to 29,980 yen). PS4 Slim gets 5k price drop (from 34,980 yen to 29,980 yen). So not as big price cut and because of that I don't see it selling nearly as much as PS3 Slim but it still should give it nice boost.

In terms of software, Tales of Berseria is probably profitable for NB at this point. It hasn't set the world on fire but 300K physical copies across PS4/PS3 is also not terrible. Once it launches in the west I could see it approaching or perhaps even passing half a million lifetime sales.

Minecraft Vita is also really, really consistent. That little game has sold a lot of copies on seemingly every system it launches on.

Missed opportunity for MS to beat Sony again. Such a shame.

Kirby is holding well. Odds it gets to 600K this year? Triple Deluxe did 677K in 2014, and that launched earlier in the year.

Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ probably could've done better if not for the PS4 shortages. I wonder if it'll have a bit of legs...

Enough people own the PS4 that they're not relying on the people buying that week to buy the software. Especially not when it sells <20k.

One would hope that the PS4 does ~100K next week. It has to recoup at least 50K to begin with from the last three weeks and you'd hope the price drop and major release can do something more than an average week ~20K, which would already put the sum units to ~70-80K.

Looking forward to next week with the launch of PS4 Slim and Persona 5. If that doesn't boost sales, then nothing will.
