Low software numbers, must be Knack.

I have to remember to predict. I'm quite clueless about most of them so it'll be fun to see how inaccurate my gut is.

These are all most likely "hardcore stores". Yodobashi only has the version with camera sold-out in three stores: http://www.yodobashi.com/ec/news/1000073465/index.html?kind=0002&store=0011

Sounds somewhat promising, maybe it's doing fine then. Didn't the Vita also have bad software ratios at launch?

So next week will only contain 2 days worth of PS4 sales huh?

I think I'll stick with my prediction from last time

PS4: 130k (2 Days)
PS4: 280k (1 Week)

Below 0 tie ratio has to mean that people are planning on buying games digitally or from other stores. The other option is a majority bought a PS4 just for Knack...

Below 1.

Below 0 would be people returning more games than buying. =P

PS3 tie-ratio was also below 1, IIRC (0.8 or something). PS4 has a free game, a market more used to download purchases, PS+ games, and the PS3->PS4 upgrade promotion. Nevertheless, a low tie-ratio is never a good sign.

Not a lot of options for the Japanese, unlike the West. We had: Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Battlefield 4, Killzone, NBA 2k, Madden, etc. They have Yakuza and Dynasty Warriors(?). Apparently Killzone is pretty big in Japan; didn't realize that. There aren't a lot of Japanese games available is what I'm trying to say.

It could also mean that they're just buying their hardware for when games like FFXV comes out lol

True but the PS3 never sold more than 2 million in a single calendar year and it had only 1 million seller. For comparison the Vita last year sold in the 1.5 mil mark.

The PS3 never sold well in Japan, it just stopped selling badly. What saved it was the fact Japan actually had a healthy mid tier industry last gen, so while no game sold exceptionally on it and lot of games sold reasonably as it's stall base bought a lot of varied smaller games.
True. I wasnt trying to speak for or against any specific systems, nor draw aby parallels to the PS4, i just ment to say that the launch numbers (regardless if they are high or low) doesnt necessarily paint any good picture for long term performance. We saw this especially with the Xbox, PS3 and WiiU, and partially the Vita as well (a bit too early to tell what it will end up selling in total).

Some context for the predictions.

Wii U:
week 1: 309k
weeks 2~5: 400k

Vita:
week 1: 321k
weeks 2~5: 177k

3DS:
week 1: 371k
weeks 2~5: 430k

Sales at the comparable time we're predicting for:

PS3 Dark Souls - 285k
3DS Harvest Moon: A New Beginning - 141k
PSV Soul Sacrifice - 156k
WII Samurai Warriors 3 - 161k
PS3 Samurai Warriors 3 Z - 272k
NDS Mario Party DS - 357k
WII Mario Party 9 - 306k
PSV Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA f - 158k
PS3 Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F - 114k
PS3 Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z - 41k
PSV Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z - 27k

One thing to consider: SW3 and HMPDF weren't simultaneous releases, but SW4 and HMPDF2nd are.

Not actually that important
That snow excuse is lame I hope no one is really behind that...

It's the new heatwave.

There you go, just as I predicted in last week's thread.

This right here confirms what's the level of discussion lately, always looking for "spins/excuse" and other console war fodder bullshit. Mind you, these ain't alone or even the worst, there have been even more stupidly clueless posts itt.

How do you feel now that it's Media Create itself reporting on the snow and it's impact on sales?

I wish all consoles would be doing great if anything just so that the average posts would go back to being a bit better than drive-by "wink wink let's make fun of ___" posts we're drowning in since Vita/WiiU happened.
I enjoy meltdowns as much as the next guy but if this is the tradeoff then it's not worth it.

According to who?

Since snow is a big reason for DK sales we should see great holds next weeks, right?

Can I ask who are you referring to? Maybe I've missed it, apologies if so, but I haven't seen a single person saying low DK sales have been great impacted by weather, could you point me to such posts?

All sales this week have been impacted by snow. It's only logical. How much we don't know, nor we know what kind of games/devices will see a potential customers running out to buy next week, turning to the used market instead, or stay home again and miss that game forever.

My guesstimate, since that seems to be such a big point of contention, is that DK could have lost something in the region of 5k, not more. If some were truly desperate they even had the chance to go digital, so I see little chance it's a bigger number. Might be lower too. Again, my two cents

Are these major retail chains or just relatively smaller online retailers?

Not surprised by the low tie ratio. There really isn't that much Japanese-focused software for the PS4 at launch compared to the options in the west.

There's no chance the PS4 will do as bad as the Wii U, look at the Vita which is selling solely on third party games and the support isn't even that great, the Wii U would be doing much better had Nintendo scheduled and released a better lineup, even if it only contained solely first party games. PS4 will sell better than the Wii U initially (first few months) due to the shiny console factor, and even if it slows down severely due to lack of releases, I don't see third parties dropping the ball as hard as Nintendo have with the Wii U.

I hope the PS4 does well, the Japanese market needs a solid home console to do well, for the sake of the whole industry.

If you thought the first party line up for Wii U is bad(and it is), what would you call the PS4 first party lineup headed by Knack?

Exactly, I do not see how anyone can be so confident about PS4 outselling Wii U in Japan when you just look at the difference in software. I think a lot of people will be in for a shock.

So what are the review scores out of? 500? If so Knack is doing better than I thought

Although that would mean all games are being well reviewed? Must be launch craziness or something

The Vita sold worse than the Wii U in it's first year a lot worse...

Of course overall the PS4 will likely be healthier, but from your argument we won't see it for at least a year.

Unless I'm missing something major in the release lists I'm not sure exactly how 'likely' it is to be much healthier.

FF14? Is that what's going to do it?

I never said the PS4 has a good first party lineup, but third parties will eventually support it, much better than the Wii U ever did, first or third party wise.

That is definitely possible, like I said, it all depends on third parties.

I'm just talking about general third party support the mid tiers may abandon it but any Japanese publisher interested in the west will release a game for it. Which is better than the wii u's current condition.

Hence the likely, though it may not be much at all

Errr, a console's success is not determined just by the amount of good first-party titles. It is determined by how consistent and good that support is. The PS4 will have a release schedule that is infinitely more consistent than the Wii U's.

Developers better start announcing games now if they're going to release them before the end of the year. The release list is looking very, very barren.

Don't get me wrong, I think eventually the PS4 will take the lead overall, but in the face of Mario Kart and possibly Smash I don't think the PS4's YTD will be ahead of that of the Wii U.

Eventually, just not it's first year which seems worst.

Japanese developer wise anyway.

The PS4 will do alright because it's still going to get sequels to almost all the big non-Nintendo franchises: FFXV, KH3, RE7, GT7, MGSV, etc.

The problem is that the sales of every one of those franchises in Japan have waned considerably over the past several years, and the only company that has the ability to create a new IP that could potentially outperform them and reinvigorate hardware sales is Sony itself.

I think whether or not Sony does better than 'alright' falls entirely on the reorganization of Japan Studio.

I think Japan Studio will continue to be much of a non factor, the staple games you mention will be what prevents failure but I honestly think that better than alright will depend on if western games will continue to gain traction.

When do people expect PS4 to outsell WiiU's LTD in Japan ?. It done it in 2 days in the UK, a few weeks in the EU and it will pass it in Feb's NPD for America.

4-6 months, hell it might take 8 months. Considering how the market seems to have collapsed right now but I'll gladly eat crow if proven wrong.

year 3 at the earliest, wiiu will add another 800k at least this year and ps4 wont be doing lap worthy numbers till those games everyone keeps mentioning start turning up (FF,RE,MGS etc)
