Modern warfare 2 has forced cross play between pc and Xbox, playstation can opt out

Everyone blaming cheaters while the real answer is mouse and keyboard>controllers.
That's nonsense, I have dominated every PC M+K user I've come across and actively hunt down PC cheaters to the point they accuse me of cheating.
Not saying there aren't any good players with K+M
There's probably is loads that could annihilate me but the majority on COD aren't that good.

are you and people that think the same way stuck in the year 2006 or something?

Controller players across many mainstream shooters absolutely dominate and mouse player constantly cry about controller players having unfair advantages etc. because they get destroyed by them.

also console supports mouse and keyboard, so this comment isn't valid either way

I mean you can show them now from the beta. But bans aren't as toothless - they can't just make another account and fire it up again. Of course there will be some people who cheat, just as there are people who hook up those weird rumble cheating devices to consoles - but there will be few who are willing to risk a ban to an account that is tied to their phone number and their copy of the game.

I understand your point and it's clear that you've already seen the horrendous hacking of the MW2 PC beta.

My point is, respectfully, if you believe for a single second hackers wont be as prevalent in MW2 as they were in the last COD, you're being naive. The system that you think offers better protection on PC has already been compromised, with more to follow. Hacking on PC is a business in and of itself. A simple reddit or discord search can get you a refundable, or 30 days try before you buy hack that's reportedly undetected, in a few minutes...

Hacking is the singular reason many of us don't game on PC. Myself included.

The fact that on XBOX cross play is forced, is the reason why I'll buy it on PS5.

Just me that’s played days worth of Overwatch, Apex, Halo and Rocket League with cross play on and never once met a cheater?

That just tells you can play, unlike other people who blame people for cheating because they believe they are the best players in the world.

This is exactly why I stopped playing bf2042 again. Game got better, but if you turned off cross play on ps5 you could not find a match. I’d rather not get served up by a bunch of aimbots, and they are kicking people off of it because they know the game is dead if they do.

This is not always the case. I’m mediocre at best these days with shooters as I don’t have the time to put in. There are indeed a shit ton of cheaters on bf2042, and I imagine it will be the same on mw2. There’s a difference between getting beat by better players, and the “better” players being obvious cheats.

This is the real answer.

Keyboard and mouse can easily outdo controllers, and people who has never used that has a hard time to understand how crippling a controller is compared to a mouse.

Seeing being killed by a mouse user can look like cheat when in reality you just aim with your wrist an entire palm.
If you genuinely want to find out which is better or more crippling.....give the keyboard/mouse player a controller and the controller player a keyboard/mouse and see who does better.

OR better yet, make sure both players are really bad at the other method and have them face each other. :D
You'll get your answer if one method really is THAT superior.

I have brought this up before, but whole crossplay crusade was insane from a business point of view. The entire point of building up a console base by selling consoles for a loss, by spending millions on exclusives and delays to maintain quality third parties simply dont care about, the entire point of all of that is to build up a bigger userbase for your online eco system. Letting your rival company access your userbase is absolutely moronic because it rewards them for their mistakes. They can go out there and produce a gimped console with kinect, tv and other nonsense, fail at garnering a userbase, and then they get a bigger userbase without actually having to rebuild trust with the consumer and SPEND to earn those users back? Nah, we are just going to cry on twitter and cancel execs until they fold and get access to all their FREE F2P users while we charge $60 in XBL Gold in our F2P games. I remember saying whats next? Start a campaign to put Uncharted on xbox? Well, they wanted to put gamepass which is even worse lmao.

With all that said, I still think crossplay is a good thing for both consoles, but not for games like COD and Destiny that already have massive userbases and pvp. PvE and coop sure, but letting PC players in was always going to be ridiculous considering how bad cheating has always been on PC. In Elden Ring, this dude joined my game and started dropping all these different items that i accidently picked up. I had no idea what he was doing. Thankfully they werent items that deleted your save, but i got so many souls and end game weapons that it made earning them feel unrewarding.

Crossplay should only be optional and have the options to choose who you would like to play with.

Do you want to play with all platforms regardless of framerates and ping? You should be able to do so.

Do you want to play with all platforms regardless of framerates and ping, but only against those who use M&K or Controller? YHou should be able to do so.

Do you only want to play with Controller users on consoles? You should be able to do so.

The game just dies without crossplay in a few months , trust me if I join lobbies in Europe from Asia that's a bigger problem than m&k.
U can wreck a m&k player but a high ping player always messes up ur game.
As I said before m&k is not the problem it's the Cheaters that PC brings is the problem.

Oh god. when it dropped that ps wasn't going to blanket open up for every game with xbox the social marketing on that one absolutely caught fire. It was insufferable. Crazy what people were getting away with on here. I could probably search up some posts from memory. People say console warring here is bad, but imo it's recovered somewhat and is fun again. There was a period from like 2015-2017 where it had gone off the rails in an ugly way.

Prior to Warzone being a thing, sure I could understand people still believing that age old myth that M/KB is significantly better vs controller.

But after Warzone became wildly popular? Nah, way too many people have had first hand knowledge to know better, and far too many people whining about controllers being too OP as a result.

The longstanding myth that m/kb would perform superior to controller has long since been thoroughly and utterly debunked.

Here's a quick tutorial on how you turn this off. On Xbox this is system level, so you never have to worry about forced cross-play on anything. Period.

This method does work for Series X just takes a little longer to get into a game.

If they hold with this decision and keep enjoying this game by the time the edge controller comes out I will just leave the Xbox version and get it for my PS5

Call of duty has gotten cross play since modern warfare 2019 reboot, but it looks like pc and Xbox are forced to cross play, while playstation can opt out.

Given how close Activision and Microsoft are now, especially close to a acquisition, it seems odd that playstation is the only platform that can opt out, like if its a paid exclusive feature.

Microsoft doesn't force cross play, so it should be as easy to opt out on xbox as well.

I couldn't find a thread about it so if it's already been discussed then I apologise.

Look Sony didn't bribe Activision to have PC and Xbox players locked with each other. That's crazy.

Everyone cried for this feature three years ago. Everyone. It's horrible. You reap what you sow crybabies.
It should be optional, always should have been

I was one of the ones saying we should have the option but never wanted to be forced to play against certain platforms

This is on Xbox as PlayStation for this one got it right, sad thing is we could turn off cross play during the beta

MS could still work on improving the feature some, no question. Not sure why using that option limits you to just other users that also turn off cross-play, should just eliminate non-Xbox matches. Certainly they know what hardware everyone is connecting with, at least at the OS level.

Sad to see people use this as some sort of gotcha against crossplay, extremely ignorant take. There have been plenty of games with communities saved by crossplay or games that could have had a lot longer lifespan with crossplay. Hunt, Outlaw Hood and Legends, Evolve, RE Resistance, Evil Dead, Battleborn, etc.

No question that it's better for more niche games on all platforms. That game nobody likes will always be someones favorite too.

Which is why you can filter PC players by their input. You don’t have to play against MK PC players at all.

I just want to opt out PC Pöayers. Same with Battlefield, you can just play with everyone or just your own Console. That sucks

Lol that is nonsense. The best controller players are like 0.5 percentage of controller players. The rest of 99.5 are not as good as a Mouse and keyboard player.

You aren't good because you get aim not by a dev.

That's just a shitty dev trying to even out the huge disadvantages with a controller.

What requires most skill, aiming with a mouse and having to follow the target vs a controller, where if you aimed close to a target before a zoom in then your aim follows the player?

If controllers didn't have any form for heavy aim assist then there would be no such thing as a "good controller player", because of input boundaries.

I just tried the system level option on series X. The good news is that It works. But it took 4 attempts at matchmaking to find a match. The wait was 7 minutes.

That's a problem. And indicative of something else entirely...

Right now, when you use the system level option, you only match with other Xbox users that have also chosen the same system level option.

Thus, if 1,000 Xbox players are in the queue but only 100 of them have used the system level option to disable cross-play, you only get matched with those 100 players. The other 900, even though they have no problem playing with you (they don't care who they play with) are off limits. Still some work to be done there. Ultimately you'd like to see that entire group made available for matchmaking. The 900 are going to have more potential matches since they have targets outside xbox, but the 100 wouldn't be nearly as limited as they are now.

Because it’s forced to look for people who set their Xbox up the same way to 100% ensure no other platforms get into the lobbies. Imagine how small that player pool is.

A single second to find a match on PS5 with cross play off. Again, the difference is indicative of something else.

I would imagine the player pool is much MUCH larger on PS who just toggle cross play off in the game menu VS those of us who have to go through 5 menu boxes to shut off cross play in the OS that most casuals likely have no idea even exists.

Honestly if I would have known they were going to remove the option from Xbox that they had in the beta I would have 100% bought it on PS which I will eventually do anyhow once I get back home and start playing again

Having cross play turned ON by default is as good as forcing cross play. I've been saying how awful this trend is for 2 years now. As always gamers don't realize how bad these things are until it's too late.

Cross Play should be OFF by default not the other way around. Of course devs and publishers want it because it's a buzzword and they think it'll bring in higher numbers but devs should never have gone along with a feature that creates an unfair multiplayer environment by default. It's unfair to console controller players, who make up the majority of players. Shame on developers. Controller even with aim assist can not compete against mouse and keyboard.

We are seeing the fallout of cross play here. If you look at the review page on the MS store you'll see tons of complaints. Who wants to be forced into an unfair multiplayer? It's so stupid.

They did it with Halo Infinite, MW1, Sea of Thieves and more I'm forgetting. No wonder games like Infinite fail. Halo has been enjoyed for 20 years on console without bullshit like Cross Play being set as default. This is what happens in this industry though when it's run by a bunch of suits and shitty devs like 343.

It's also a side effect of gullible gamers who allow them to make these changes (reminds me of Destiny fanbase who allowed themselves to go along with Vaulting $150 of content we paid for; "oh it'll be good for the game" oh "I don't play that stuff anyway"). These companies will take as much as we let them get away with.

And a "games media" that seems to work for the interests of the publishers. Where were they when they should've been writing articles warning people about Cross Play. Or speaking out against Bungie for stealing content from their own customers?
